I'm on the hunt for cars and trucks to funish a 40k city http://www.dakkadakka.com/Default.aspx?tabid=93&forumid=8&postid=96026&view=topic Does anyone remember seeing art that shows standard imperial cars? I'm thinking of 30s and 40s cars but would take suggestions.

Fluffwise imperial cars and trucks would depend entirely on the level of development of the planet they happened to be on. Could be anywhere from hovercars to horse drawn carriages. So just use what you think looks good, and that matches your city.

True but part of the fluff is the existance of STC vehicles like the rhino that are used everywhere. Logic stays there should be an STC car, truck, jeep and van around as well.

I can not think of any art either, but I belive that in the Inquistor novels a few cars are discribed. Come to think of it, there is a model truck in the Inqusitor rule book. It looks like a 1/32 british prime mover. Basicaly I would assume that each planet has their own designs based on the STC framework, and that the hull of the vehicle is decorated according to local taste. Personaly I like the idea of early 40's late 30's vehicles with some imperial bling on them. If you add only a few eagles here and there, I think you could use them in your Supers games too, just throw in a few more reconizable vehicles for those games.

I read in one Guants Ghousts book that Guant and one of his soldiers used a Cadilac like car, then Ive also read about people using half-track staff cars, Tim Hicklberry did some good cars/trucks but using the ork truck model, its expensive to build. Also 1:48? scale diecaste cars work well. Just add some 40k-sih bits to them....?
Talk about half-track anyone have any links to 40k built half-tracks????????/

I'm sure that there are servitor-hauled rickshaws, hovercars for the rich, flash eldaresque subcompacts for the Elf Wanna-bes,(seventeen wings, a thorn paintjob, and neon ground effects? Awesome(x2)!!) heavily armed alms-wagons for the Redemptionists, real chiller blackhrome cruisers for the Bronzes, and a good sturdy pair of boots for most of the rest.
Any city worth its salt should have some kind of mass transit, I'm thinking a monorail! Monorail!! MONORAIL!!! Or some other kind of commuter train or cable car.

What about the Genestealer Limo? Seems that would be something to base the rest of them around.

I was just thinking about that old Genestealer limo conversion. Kyoto-sama, I'm sure you have either the WD it was originally featured in or in one of the compilations/codices it later found it's way into. I think they used 1/48 plastic model cars, though it could've been 1/43. I do think the slightly larger scale will fit GW's over-exagerrated proportions better.
IIRC, old RT-era illustrations showed imperial vehicles with a bit of a Mad-Max twist, with gothic sci-fi additions. Think Terry Gilliam movies, like "Brazil" or "12 Monkeys" (the future part, not the present). Or even "Blade Runner", though with a distinct lack of air/grav cars. I would imagine a lot of indstrial vehicles, with space greeblies, and very few personally owned vehicles, as only the richest could afford them and even then they would prefer things like gyrocopters and what not rather something as mundane as road travel. The working masses would be stuck with mass transit or their own two feet.

I remember the stealer limo and even some of the conversion Tyranid Tim did for the Genestealer cult list in CJ. Alas all of those books are en route to China so if anyone can post scans (for review purposes of course hence fair use) I think we'd all appreciate them. I just found another good link, the COmbat Zone Chroicles (my new favorite terrain site) has this suggestion http://www.combatzonechronicles.net/cozo8/pcar.htm THey used O scale model rail road cars from a company called Plasticville available here: http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/index.html

Clayman, the stealer limo was an absolutely awesome transport or something back when genestealers seemed to be a race all of their own. In other words, there weren't any tyranid monsters or any of these wierd beasts we have today. Yep, just a magus (which yakface actually still has one I believe) a bunch of genestealers, and their wacky crossbread minions. A 3rd generation ork hybrid is always good stuff!
Anyways, there were rules for it and some pretty cool art work of it back when white dwarf was actually recognized as a place to get rules from. I'm not sure about the details on the rules but the look of it was pretty sweet.
I'm partial to the vehicles from the movie the 5th element. The ones from Star Wars 2 are pretty much along the same lines as well. That's just the way I picture any abandoned vehicles on my board would look like. Since there are all sorts of diferent worlds with different levels of technology we can assume anything. I think you're on the right track if your board is going to double as a superhero board too.

The Combat Zone has it right, methinks.
I would think that 40k cars would have a 30s pulp, the future is now kinda look. That 30s/40s look of the future type cars, moreso than cars from the 50s-forward.
Jester also has it right with the servitor-pulled rickshaws. I'm also picturing some kind of crazy nuclear-powered stagecoach, maybe a dune 'thopter like vehicle or some crazy crawlers. Definitely need a grundgy-soviet republic looking mass-transit system, though...

If you want a burned hulk, the plasticville or similar cars will work well, but if you want a moblie vehicle that looks like a car, you will unfortunately be doing quite alot of conversion work. Tamiya makes a 1/48 kublewagon, and a 1/48 citron that would look quite nice in a 40k setting. In fact, that is the route I plan to go for my own city (in the mythical time when it is finished). The vehicles, being stratic models, would be somewhat fragile, and might need reinforcing, but the look would be hard to top.

As has been said, a 40K car can be just about anything. Despite the prevelence of STC technology, human pragmatism and the general simplicity of Internal Combustion have made it possible for millions of different car varients to exist. Just make something that goes with the rest of the terrain, and if anyone complains, either explain the above, or preferably kick them in the nuts and take there toys for being a dick.

One of the sites I found for diecast vehicles has Kublewagons as well. http://www.diecastdirect.com/asp_modules/catalogscale.asp?Scale=43&Type=M You can get 8 for $40, some open topped, some closed. They actually would work well for 40k. http://www.diecastdirect.com/asp_modules/add_item.asp?ProductCode=CAR95002SET

8 for $40 seems like a good way to go. If you removed some of the wheels from the front hood, repainted most as civillian cars, and did a few conversions (panel truck, stretch limo, pickup truck), you would have a consistant look, which also fits fairly well with the 40k design. Plus the KW is pretty small in real world terms, so a 1/43 scale model will not seem out of place at all, where as a larger car might.
