What are everyone's thoughts on arming their Chaos Terminators?  Specifically Death Guard.

Here's what I'm thinking for a 7-man squad:

2x Reaper AC with Chainfists
4x Combibolters with PW
1x Champ with CombiMelta and Lightning Claw
-Tankhunters all around.

I figured I may as well throw in the Melta since I've got tankhunters on the squad.

And for my Land Raider assault squad (yeah, I know it's suboptimal, but I want to field it):

Manreaper Lord
1x HF with LC
2x CombiFlamers with PW or LCs
1x CombiMelta with Chainfist
-Furious Charge all around.

Are Lightning Claws on Nurgle Termies un-fluffy?  A waste of points what with the Furious Charge?  I don't really see the need for PFs when I've got 1-2 Chainfists per unit.

How about the combiflamers?  I wanted to go all combiflamer/combimelta/HF in the assaulty squad, just in case someone pulls out the 'Chaos Termies can't shoot rapidfire weapons and then assault' technicality.  But I'm wondering if I shouldn't switch out a combiflamer for another combimelta, since the third template might not get more than 1 or 2 hits.

I have no experience with fielding termies of any variety, so any advice is welcome.

Hey Strangelooper,

I'm building the following Terminator squad...

   5 Terminators, 2 Reaper Autocannons, 3 CombiBolters, 1 Powerfist, 4 Powerweapons

1 Terminator Champion, Kai Gun, Powerweapon

all with MoCU, Icon, Tank Hunters

This costs 320 points. Very expensive, but nice. I like the added firepower of the Kai Gun. Compared to Loyalist Terminators we need some boost in firepower.

As for your units: in the first I'd stick the CombiMelta on a different Terminator and give the Champ Twin Lightning Claws (he's paying full points for the LC anyway).

In the Land Raider squad: All (Combi)Flamers is very good but might mix-up the roll of your Terminators. Flamer units are supposed to be cheap and expendible (5 Storm Guardians in a Falcon w. Warlock+Destructor). Your Terminators can be armed with better, even in such a Land Raider assault squad I'd take the Autocannons. The combat they'll charge into will be over soon and then they will get better targets afterwards with the Autocannon. Also watch out you don't flame the chargezone and are left with Terminators standing in the open in a less than optimal position waiting to get shot / charged.

Good luck with the unit. Chaos Terminators are very expensive for what they do, but they do have some Tactical Flexibility. Use them well and they might become the bane of your opponents.

Cilithan out...

When I run terminators for death guard it is either 7, 2 reapers, 2 fists, furious charge or 18, 6 reapers, 6 fists, tank hunter (900 or so pts)

I really like the second option because it is almost impossible to kill them all if they use terain nicely. They survived against an all mounted fire dragon army in wave serpents with starcannons and starcanon toting wraithlords gunning for them the entire game.

Furious charge on lightning claws is very good as init 5, str 5, you will kill a couple of guys before they swing. but only if you have other power weapons and lighting claws to kill out those power fists before they swing. If you can do that you will see the claws pay for themselves many times over.

Thanks guys!

Cypher, do you run a single unit of 18 terminators?!? Yikes. I like it, except for the lack of scoring units. Also, do you use Chainfists or Powerfists? I like the idea of Chainfists because a) they look cool, and b) it's only 6 points more in a 300 point unit for two Chainfists, and that almost guarantees penetration vs anything other than a Monolith.

Cilithan, that's a good idea re twin LCs. Now I just have to find a right-arm LC somewhere. Also, I see the point about having something to use at range after the initial wiping of the first target in CC. I guess the Heavy Flamer is overkill when there are multiple combi-flamers in the unit.

I was trying to stack my heavy/special weapons and fists on the same models, so that I would have 'cheap' models to remove as casualties (ie combiflamer+power weapon, or combibolter+powerweapon). I figure that I'm going to lose models, so why should I have to choose between losing an autocannon or losing a fist (if they're on separate models)? However, there's always torrent of fire...do you guys find that this is a huge issue with termies?

Here is my favortie Choas Terminator Load-out:

5 Chaos Terminators
- Deamon Icon
- 2 Reaper Autocannons
- Tank Hunters
- 2 Chain Fists
- Mark of Choas Undivided
-1 AC
--Deamonic Str.
--Sorceror
--Gift of Chaos
--Warp Focus

Comes to a cool 348 points for the squad, pricey I know, but it is hard to take CSM Terminators and keep it under 300 points to begin with. They can engage tanks and light infantry at range. I keep the power weapons for basically the initiative, especially if I find myself in close combat with Loyalist Termies, the champion does have streagth to help him wound, and the purpose of GoC is to tak eout hidden Powerfists or Characters. Chainfists help you when you are locked into combat with a Dread.

My favorite CSM Terminators are Emporer's Children Terminators, they can move and fire 3 shots on the move! Plus has access to all there other fun stuff, you actually want them to keep the power weapons.

Current Armies: Blood Angels, Imperial Guard (40k), Skorne, Retribution (Warmachine), Vampire Counts (Fantasy)

Yes, I'm tempted to try a LustWing as well, something like:

3 units of Chaos termies x6, MoSl, Tank Hunters
Blastmaster x2, Chainfist x2
Sonic Blaster x3, Power Weapon x3
Aspiring Champ with Sonic Blaster, Doom Siren, Lightning Claw

Fill remaining points with Daemonettes, Mounted Daemonettes.

Maybe the blastmaster isn't any better than the Reaper AC, but it's fluffy.

I've tried Gift of Chaos before with my Nurgle army, on a Daemon Prince. Usually he only gets two chances with it though, and it often fails due to having to roll over the enemy toughness. I think maybe it's better left to the Tzeenchians who can get thrall wizards. I'll stick with Wind of Chaos for psychic powers - no armour and no cover save = fun fun fun.
