I mean, why not? You pay for them, a lot of the time they are worth more than the squad inside. I just don't get the reasoning behind transports being non-scoring units.

Drano doesn't exactly scream "toy" to me.

The reasoning was part of the huge overkill on GW's part to nueter the Rhino rush. Essentially if you remember back to 3rd edition people would drop units out of their transports and then go hide their transports behind something and use them to capture table quarters or objectives at the end of the game.

I agree with the design team to an extent that it is pretty lame, especially for the really low cost transports like an Ork Trukk or a SM Rhino.

The problem is, that some transports are a sizable amount of points, have a signifigant number of weapons and really should be scoring units.

They need to just put a points cap on the "transports are non-scoring" rule to keep Dark Eldar Raiders, Ork Trukks and Rhinos as non-scoring (since you can field way too many for too cheap).

Chimeras, Wave Serpents, Devilfish, Immolators and Razorbacks should all be considered scoring units IMO.

The alternate rule that could be instituted is that a transport (any of them) counts as a socring unit only if their transported unit hasn't been wiped out, and they can only capture the same table quarter their transported unit is also in.

Either of those would solve most of the cheap scoring abilities of transports while not penalizing armies that have expensive basic transports.

yakface's 40K rule #1: Although the rules allow you to use modeling to your advantage, how badly do you need to win your toy soldier games?
yakface's 40K rule #2: Friends don't let friends start a MEQ army.
yakface's 40K rule #3: Codex does not ALWAYS trump the rulebook, so please don't say that!

Another option would be to make transports scoring if taken as non-dedicated.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I think the thing to do is make it so that they are scoring if their unit is still 50%+ Heck why not include them in the model count for the unit (IE: 5 man Tac Squad + Rhino = 3 models left = scoring)

Drano doesn't exactly scream "toy" to me.
