I know some of you are going to hate this - and yet you will see the truth in it.  Something im working on as "fluffy" background for a completely divergent chapter led by a "Grand" Inquisitor

Historical Record

BOOK OF TRUTH
The Induction of Brother Captain Arcus

-record begins-

"You have done a great service to humanity, Brother Arcus.  Your time in Deathwatch has served you well." [Capt. Helvian]

"Your praise is highly esteemed Brother Captain Helvian." [Bro. Arcus]

"Your prowess has not gone unnoticed... Brother Verdade wishes to commend you in person." [Capt. Helvian]

"Brother Verdade is here? In person? This is an honor of unequivocal magnitude." [Bro. Arcus]

"I wish to keep my presence here unnoticed..." [Bro. Verdade]

"Brother Librarian..." [Bro. Arcus]

"Walk with me Brother Arcus, Brother Captain Helvian see to our transport off this forsaken planet." [Bro. Verdade]

[recording error]

"There is a great threat to humanity..." [Bro. Verdade]

"Yes Brother, the alien, the heretic, the daemon..." [Bro. Arcus]

"Indeed, but there exists an even greater threat, one so insidious that it has already infected the minds and souls of countless of our Brothers." [Bro. Verdade]

"I don't understand my lord.  What greater threat than heresy, chaos and alien invasion could there be?" [Bro. Arcus]

"The undead are among us, have taken control of our brothers, even now a Lich of great power feasts on the souls of the innocent to sustain its evil existence, it is a corruption from within." [Bro. Verdade]

"Necron! What is your wish my lord, my brothers and I are ready to serve humanity." [Bro. Arcus]

"I am not speaking of Necron Brother Arcus." [Bro. Verdade]

[recording error]

"...which you know as the 'Chorus of 10 000', 10 000 innocent souls, 10 000 humans of power uncalculated.  You do not strengthen an empire by destroying the very weapons you would wield against your enemies." [Bro. Verdade]

"Lord why do you say these things to me, they are... they are kin to heresy." [Bro. Arcus]

"Not heresy Brother Arcus, truth.  Search your heart and mind, you see the truth in what I speak, I feel it within you, a battle rages - a battle for your soul.  Would that I could help you in this battle, but you must face these things even as I had to face them, alone.  What do you know of the Great Crusade, the Age of Heresy and the fall of the Emperor.?" [Bro. Verdade]

"On- only what I have learned, only what has been taught me... the Traitor Horus slew the emperor, in turn the Emperor slew Horus, it was Primarch Rogal Dorn who found the dying Emperor and took him back to Terra to be interred in the Golden Throne."

"So has history been changed! Two there were that found the Emperor, there was another Primarch though his name be ever lost.  A man of true faith.  The God-Emperor cannot die, though his flesh may fall he will be reborn anew and lead his faithful servants to victory... these were last words of the Emperor: "I cannot die, I shall live!".  A great dispute arose over the meaning of those words between Rogal and 'He Whose Name is Lost' most loved companion of Sanguinius, faithful servant of the God-Emperor.  Much has been lost or removed from the Imperial Records.  What we do know is that our Primarch was betrayed and murdered.  In those final moments the God-Emperor had faced his corruption and overcome it, however the vile words of Rogal tainted his mind and in his weakened state he gave in.  It was the corruption that took root in the God-Emperor that turned his most trusted Primarchs away, a great loss that they turned not to truth but to chaos to guide them.  It was this very corruption which he had overcome that took him in the end... fear and doubt.  Thus the Emperor become a Lich, neither living - nor dead, feasting on the souls of the innocent, sustained in his Golden Phylactery, ever linked to and corrupted by the Warp.  He calls out to us even now, that part of him that is still true, he calls for release from captivity - that he may be reborn." [Bro. Verdade]

[recording error]

-record ends-

Hey Ironking,

I love the story and I like the idea of the "history has been changed" idea of the background, but I'm not sure about the idea of the Emperor as a Lich Priest.  Seems a little suspect.  Surely on Terra thousands of millions of disciples and pilgrims who would flock to see them Emperor on the Golden Throne wouldn't put up with a flicking image on a dataslate, and the High Lords would want to have him out on display so the Imperial peoples could be pacified and vilified by the image.

Could be me though, but something just doesn't sit right with me about the story.  Maybe something about continuing the Great Crusade in the Emperor's stead, not believing in the system ruled by bureaucrats; incurring the wrath of the High Lords and led by a renegade inquisitor.  Something like that maybe?

If something can be done right; find the other way!

Mmm, you see I dont know enough of the fluff to really make that decision right now, but in effect the Emperor is a Lich - he isn't really dead, and he's not really alive either - from what I understand he is kept in/on the Golden Throne which in turn keeps him alive using "TechnoMagic" -derived from the Warp possibly - I just dont know - so while he may not actually look like a Lich - by definition a Lich is an "undead" that has not been properly buried, makes use of a magical life support system (Phylactery) to keep alive and feeds off the living - I dont know sounds much like the emperor to me. Thing is, and this worked really well with my backstory, that he may even be an unwilling Lich, whose power is magnified by his keepers and used to shroud what he truly is. Only those few who have been able to break through that shroud and see the truth - those truly devoted, are trying to free him so that he may be reborn once again.

But thats just my take on it - and what do I know... not very much in all honesty. Please keep the comments coming - its a work in progress and I am going to start with the concept for my Chapter.

I was thinking that it's all a little Hazy - Grand Lord Inquisitor sees the truth, convinces Librarian and Chaplain, they join and work together - as in Inquisitor he requests units from other chapters - only units who have served in DeathWatch - and slowly "frees" their minds inducing them into a new order - Ordo Veritas. Makes my paint choice simple - all black except 1 shoulder pad to reflect orinigal Chapter - and then some symbol of Ordo Veritas - perhaps everyone carries a scroll canister or some other icon. Also they dont believe in using Dreadnaughts - for the obvious reason - they're fanatics and believe that a Dread is really an extention of undead power... and so on and so on...

Very cool. I'd like to read more.

"now theres a good use of expensive terminators with fw bitz" as quoted form NAVARRO in regards to my Misty May Terminator.

Thanks for all the support guys: so here is what I have been thinking...

ORDO VERITAS
Veritas Vos Liberabit - The Truth will set you Free
Veritas Lux Mea - The truth enlightens me / The truth is my light
Veritas numquam perit - Truth never perishes
Veritas vincit - Truth conquers

cant decide which one yet... though Im leaning towards Veritas Lux Mea or Veritas Numquam Perit - or what the hell - both of them.

All troops are induced from various other chapters who have served in Deathwatch.

Cannot use Dreadnaughts - they are undead.

As a result - 1 squad of terminators can be armed with Heavy Weapons - limited - but maybe something like the chaos Obliterators - so instead of dreads - you can take 1 squad of max. 5 hvy term of which 3 may take - either Las can, autocan, plasma can, psy can, incinerator, missile launcher (as with reg termies - the whirlwind system) assault cannon (as per dread) - i dont know about the regular rules - can termies walk and fire heavy weapons?? can a dread walk and fire its weapons?  HELP!

may not take "Machine Spirit" upgrades on their vehicles - against their ethos. May not take Ultramarines as allies (even those who have served in Deathwatch) since their Primarch is seen to be a traitor and his traitorous geneseed is infectious. Have a distrust of Adeptus Mechanicus - since they are the ones who built the Golden Throne - however may take Techmarine.

Definately cannot ally with Adeptus Custodes - they are believe to be the evil captors of the emperor.

Absolutely hate Necrons and everything they embody - if Necrons are on the table - they must attack the necrons first before continuing their mission.

Working on it.

gabriel - no one sees the emperor apart from the custodes and sister alicia one of the founders of the modern sisters of battle ibelieve was the last non-custodes person to see her (apart from inquisitor draco but thats something differnet) and i think possibly the high lords might also have the right but not sure if they do

ironking - not bad but to be honest i see marines particularly DW marines as been amongst the most devout servents of the emperor so a heresy like this wouldnt happen per say as marines arent really in to the whole god-emperor thing, they respect him more as a great person then a god in most cases. maybe if the person "turning" your character to chaos - which is what it reads like he is doing (think of it like the soul drinkers) was an inquisitor lord and psyker then it might be more believable especailly if your marine was a soul drinker (a forgotten brother) or a relictor that might be cool.

just a though there

cheers

hey millest - given - the SM are devout and loyal - but misguided perhaps. In my rather shaky research I have found that there are those who believe that the emperor must be allowed to die so that he can be reborn to lead his armies against chaos and xenos and complete the great crusade.

I didn't have in mind a chaos army - rather my idea was an army so anti chaos and corruption that they see even their brothers interred in Dreads as abomonation. not sure what a soul-drinker is - i am actually going to try get my hands on some of the WhiteDwarf which deals with this stuff - unless you can point me to a great FLUFF resource - i have been looking at SM Codex, rullebook and some whitedwarf and Wikipedia - dont laugh!

what is a relictor?

oh - the one doing the turning is Bro. Librarian Verdade - the mouth of Grand Inquisitor "wassisname" - its still early days for me - so please keep on helping!! ps. somewhere i read that one of the daemon princes of the chaos was very concerned that if the emperor died he would be reborn which would be very bad for the chaos guys - seeing as he is such an awesome warrior and powerful psyker...

as i read more fluff i will be able to refine - so your help and suggestions are really appreciated thanks.

that would be the thorian inquisitional sect - not marines per say - they believe that the emperor is trying to be reborn and that sebastian thor was the embodyment on the emperor (hence the name).

a relictor is a marine from a chapter that collects chaos relics and weapons and uses them against chaos!

sould drinkers are a marine chapter that was turned to chaos by someone "preaching the true will of the emperor" and turning them to chaos before they realised their mistake - a trilogy from the BL

the fluffs ok but i can see some fluff nazis clamping down on it. i think it might be more likely that an inquisitor gathers a crusade with squads from differnet chapters (gives the chance for inducted guard as well! lol) and turns them rather then turn a large number of DW marines - read the DW novels youll see that DW marines are more suspicious and free thinking then normal marine but will still blow the brains out of someone talking about this

cheers

I must apologize - you can see im a newbie by the way i dont know my ar$e from my fluff...

Ultramarines = Cool - Guilliman = cool

Rogal Dorn = BAD - Imperial Fists, Black Templars, Crimson Fists = BAD (in terms of Ordo Veritas and the Lost Chapter still thinking about a cool name.)

VERITAS NUMQUAM PERIT

not bad as in chaos or anything - i just mean that in the eyes of the "Lost Chapter" they carry the Gene-Sede of Rogal - and hence are not to be trusted

I have made a hell of a lot of refinements in terms of what I want to do with this concept. I am writing it all down and will post as soon as all the contradictions and holes are ironed out... so any suggestions for names for the "lost Chapter" and the "lost Primarch" are welcome...

For the betrayed Primarch I was thinking of something like:
Jonas Maxus
Lucien Felix

dont know
