Well after a building building spree I decided there had to be a better way to try out COD building designs without slpping glue on and then ripping it apart  to rebuild.  Turns out there is Google Sketchup.  Free and once you get it setup for COD buildings you can really start trying things out pretty quickly.  I haven't done any CAD in a while but I found it pretty easy.  Here is an example of a building I designed over a couple nights  and a landing pad I designed and actually built.
The inspiration of the first building is an Adeptus Arbite/Inquisitorial Headquarters.  The back has two rhino garage doors.

The landing pad is also for my inquisitors and because I just wanted another large terrain piece.  It is mounted on a 1'x1' MDF board.  The platform is 9" high and access is limited to the hydraulic lifts for normal infantry.  I am debating putting a second access point on the base of the control tower.

Anyway I found the program extremely helpful.  Next I will work on making some representative models that I can place in my buildings and also I want to perfect my ability to go ahead and put battle damage into the models.  Eventually I can imagine this being a fantastic battle report tool as it could let you get any camera angle for  battle report action.  Anyway thought it might be of intrest to some of you out there.

While it has been easy to build full buildings I haven't found a decent way to virtually destroy them. I expect that the glass in the dome will be shattered. I may just build the framework and put a couple fragments in it. I haven't really though much about it. I am trying to think of a good material to use to build the first level such that i wont have to use a bunch of COD pieces until I get to the second level and the roof. I would like to do a stone foundation but I haven't found anything yet. Any ideas?

Hirst Arts is a possible solution for a stone foundation. There are plenty of Hirst molds setup in the Sketchup data base- just search for Hirst.

Yeah I have looked at the hirst stuff before it looks like a quality product but it also looks like alot of work and time. I may have to go back and re-evaluate since I haven't come up with any better ideas yet. I need basically 4 more buildings to fill a 4' x 6' building so maybe the Hirst molds are worth the investment of time and money. Has anyone here used them before? If so, were they worth it? One of the things I like about the GW COD models is large models with low weight, I assume the hirst models are heavier but I am curious just how heavy they are.

Using Hirst blocks with mix media keeps the weight reasonable. I've seen some nice looking buildings with Hirst blocks framing in the CoD panels. You could add pink foam in as a third element. All together, it would add variation and keep the plaster buildings from getting too heavy.

I have a couple of all brick buildings of larger size- the weight is significant but not out of control.
