Image Description: Here is one view of my Space Marine Iwo Jima Flag Raising diorama with both the centerpiece and base painted. Backpacks for the three Space Marines still need to be painted and glued on and a fallen enemy model or two added to the base. After that, a final review and touch-up as needed and the diorama is complete. The centerpiece was made from the GW Skullz Promotion Space Marine Iwo Jima Flag Raising model and the base is made from the GW Honoured Imperium scenery set. Blending of the two pieces was achieved with Apoxie Sculpt.

Though I suppose this is meant to be more of a propaganda piece?
Invicta 2011-03-22 19:49:25 This is a tribute to US Marines that fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima. That is why GW probably decided to use Space Marines.
BrassScorpion 2011-03-22 21:26:51 Some of the comments about this piece appearing here and at different photos of it in this gallery seem to imply that the people making the comments think this was some kind of conversion that I cobbled together rather than a sculpted piece by Games Workshop. The photos of it unpainted should make it pretty clear that the only converting I've done here was to place the piece on the broken aquila scenery and blend it in with a little sculpting. The central pewter model of Space Marines raising the flag in the style of the US Marines at Iwo Jima was sculpted, molded and cast by GW. I've just given it a diorama style basing and hopefully a good paint job to show it off. As for some of the other more "off the wall" comments, I'll refrain from posting a rebuttal as I'm sure it will do little good anyway.
