I really like the golden armor. I think it'd be better to paint the red bits in the same style, they sort of look like they belong to a different mini. The freehand on the banner is impressive.
But that face. If I could rate that bit only it'd be a 10/10. I thought it was a universal rule: faces end up looking goofy if you paint in the eyes. But not this one, oh no. This is the most sincerely angry marine I've ever seen! Excellent work. |

The red booties and belt buckle come from the 'Blood Angels Commander' mini seen in photos from Rogue Trader, I was copying that paint job. So far as the face goes, I tried my best, but I have to admit I also just got lucky when it came to dotting the eyes; this is his good side, the right eye's not quite on point. I only became aware later that the old 'Commander' mini had been given a proper name (Lt Cmdr Chavez) in the old Combat Cards game, when I painted this I was using that paint job as inspiration for a theoretical Primaris Tycho - if I'd known I'd have used a head with a bionic eye like the Commander had and painted his hair white. I've been toying with adding a bio-eye and repainting the hair, but having the face turn out as fortunate as it did, I'm reluctant to mess with it. |
