Benedictus is a "fallen" Mantis Warrior vanguard who went over to join The Tyrant's Red Corsairs after the Badab war. I figure he was probably a special liaison officer and as such, much closer to the Tyrant than a normal Mantis Warrior would have been... thus more readily corrupted by his influence.
