 put your camera on macro mode
or buy a good camera which actually has macro mode ;-) |

 You don't need macro mode to take close up pictures. In fact, there's some sorts of close ups you can't do with macro mode. Look above: This is a great shot for drawing the attention to the pilot precisely because the whole model is NOT in focus.The tail is out of focus, the rear part of the rotor, and, most importantly, the right hand is softened, allowing your eye to drift to the pilot's face. However, if you wanted the entirety of a long (deep) model in focus, then very few, if any, cameras would be able to give you the proper depth of field with macro mode. You need to step back and use zoom with a bigger aperture number in that case. |

 Thanks for the feedback guys - sorry it's taken so long for me to respond.
Believe it or not, I actually took this with the camera built into a Sony Ericsson K750i cellphone !. Yes, I used the macro - but only because I forgot to turn it off. The resulting image was mainly down to knowing how to keep the camera at the best distance from the model to allow the autofocus to target precisely what I wanted. |
