Are they a succsessor chapter, or a "unknown origins" chapter. I like the fireball!

The original intent of the chapter was that they were an Inquisition-created force designed to test the geneseed that each chapter tithed to the Administratum. They would insert the geneseed into cloned troopers (the shoulder pads on the other units denotes which chapter) and throw them into combat to see how they all reacted under stress and in certain situations. (It is assumed that chapters with "issues", like the Blood Angels, would find a way around it, such as "borrowing" geneseed from other chapters.) The command squad and the terminators (and some Grey Knights) were non-chapter-specific (or perhaps "veteran" troops), tasked with support as well as taking down their own units should they become out of control.
The army is pretty much a non-starter now, what with the concept of allies being pretty much removed from 40k, since it pretty much relied on a combination of standard Marines and =I= forces. |

Finally got a look at the Grey Knights codex... and realized this army is NOT dead. Warrior Acolytes in Power Armor will actually be an even better use in this army than standard Space Marines (since without the intense training and indoctrination I don't think even a geneseeded human will be BS/WS/ST/T 4). These particular models won't get used, probably (and if they do they'll be getting stripped) but the army is definitely back from the dead. |
