Image Description: Just a simple shot to demonstrate the difference a quick wash (of Badab Black to the metal areas, and Ogryn Flesh to the, um, flesh) can make. The washed model is on the left.
In both cases, the models were quickly painted (as part of a batch of 24), and looked virtually identical before shading them with washes or dips.
It's actually a bit less apparent in this photograph than in real life, but the wash really helps the details pop on the model, and makes the armour seem more worn, rather than the immaculate cleanliness of the unwashed model (of course, if you're painting figures you want to look immaculate, you could still apply a wash to help make the details pop out, you'd just need to do so with care, only shading the areas directly around the detailing). |

That is a really good idea, however i find it better to have a black undercoat, then dry brush "boltgun metal" over the armour bits of the figure, then wash with "Badab Black" after letting it dry get "mithril silver" and dry brush lightly over where you have been before but not getting into the whole figure making sure only the raised parts are shinning, But on the back plate just lightly brush seperating the mithril from the boltgun, next wash again, then finally dry brush the entire model "chainmail" this then adds the shine which has been dulled on the other 2 coats by the wash making the figure look shiny but also worn in the cracks, unfortunatly my camera cannot give images as clear as yours and so i cannot show how the figure looks but i have to say these look far more clean and prestine which is what your figures arnt. But good work |
