Image Description: At the time i started this conversion, i had barely heard of Forgeworld. I saw the pics for the NightSpinner in the softcover Imperial Armor volume 2 along with the MK1 Cobra and Scorpion, and thought that like them this model could no longer be bought except for rare occasions on Ebay. So, i set about to make my own. I used a falcon body and the weapons from two boxes of Eldar support platforms. i cut the deathspinners in half, then cut the vibro cannon front and back off. drill and pin the remaining portion of the vibro cannon in between the two deathspinner parts then use a piece of rounded sprue, also pinned to complete the bar across the top of the weapon. After many trial and errors i finally got a top fin that looked right for the back end of the weapon and used a piece of guitar string to run the small section between the top bar and the back fin. last but not least was a LOT of drilling as well as scraping to get a hole that would contain an earth magnet that was big enough and strong enough to hold the weapons in place. unfortunately the magnets i used will hold the weapon to the turret, but will NOT hold the weapon pointed into the air or even vertical as they are now. so, more thinking on this as i didn't want the weapons to just lay on top of my tank where they would possibly scrape the paint job, and eventually I ended up drilling into the front sides of the turret and glued in a small straight pin with the head still attached. while the weapon still does not point into the air, the front of the guns do rest on the pins which helps keep them level and not scraping across the front of my tank. total cost was around $90, only to find out a few months after completion that i could have very easily bought the forgeworld model for about $30 less what it cost me to build this thing. oh well, at least i have a unique model for my efforts. :D |
