Image Description: Rough, unfinished prototype. Bolter removed, legs not completely smoothed/filled, mold lines not removed, etc as he was completed only to serve as a test model.
My prototype Marine next to Hasselfree's McKenzie, an classic metal Cadian, and Sgt. ByClaw, the second most bad ass squat model ever made. This shows the full loadout minus the holster, as well as the grenades and magazine pouches added. I want the Marines to actually look like they showed up to fight a battle, and have the ammunition to do so. It helps with the fact that the models look skinny too. I'm not a huge fan of the so-called "actual scale" figures as they look too bulky and too tall. A lot better modelers than myself have done them and many look fantastic. Not criticizing by any means. I just think their scale is a bit too much. Closer to "art scale", but the 40K art also gave us Peanut Head Calgar, so mileage may vary. I prefer to interpret the more ridiculous art as heroic propaganda rather than realistic interpretation. Seven foot tall Marines seem big enough. Future models will actually be at least .5mm taller as I've altered the design of them since he was completed. But I have no assembled examples. |
