Image Description: I used some dental plaster to make casts out of those two molds, just to see how they turned out, and this is a side-by-side comparison of the master and the cast. The numbers are the same as in the earlier photo (1 = deep well, 2 = cistern, 3 = electrical/plumbing fixture, 4 = gear).
The gear piece didn't turn out nearly as well as I'd like, probably because all of those delicate teeth are fragile. I'll have to see how the cast looks when it's painted; if I don't like it, I'll just make pieces like that out of actual gears instead of trying to cast them, and I'll probably fill in that part of the mold with more moldmaking material so it does not remind me of my failure!!
I like how the face turned out, though. I put enough texture on the master that I should be able to paint a base coat on the casting, drybrush it, then do the eyes and teeth and end up with something that looks pretty cool. |
