Image Description: Bridge attached. The bridge is from Michael's, and I think it is one of many pieces for a "build your own mission" diorama (either that or the dollhouse area). Turned on its side it makes a nice plank bridge.
I scored a lot of the plank ends with an X-Acto knife, then broke them off pliers, and scored and broke a few places on the long edges of some planks to show wear and tear (as if it had been poorly maintained for a few years. I then weathered it by painting it with a dilute brown paint. In a later step I'll paint a lot of it with a green wash to represent mildew, and flock parts of it with green flock to represent active mold.
The ends of the bridge are secured in place with small screws. I put a dot of glue into each of the test holes to give the screws a stronger hold. In a later step I'll glue a small gear onto the top of each screw to disguise that it's a screw and make it look more like something you'd find in a clockwork city.
The bridge is strong enough and stable enough to hold miniaturesI did a test placement with three Medium minis and two Large ones and they stayed on just fine. I actually have a narrower bridge (about 1", whereas this one is 2" wide) but went with this one because the long length meant it was prone to twisting in the middle if you put a mini there.
