Image Description: WIP of a wooden dam, inspired by the dam scene in Tangled.
The base and vertical part are pink insulation foam, painted a base coat of dark brown. The bottom piece has a square grid drawn on it in pencil; when I go over it with a paint-sand mixture for texture and color-coverage, then drybrush it with a lighter color, the grid will be visible for gaming purposes but not so obvious as to be distracting.
The wooden planks are actually wooden stirrers from Starbucks, cut into random lengths, fit together, and glued in place.
There's a series of horizontally-projecting planks along the current top row of planks, which I'll use to build a walkable platform for characters. There'll be stairs up to the top, and a gap in the "floor" of that platform with a chain/winch allowing PCs or equipment to be ferried up and down.
