Man, I can't believe this didn't make it into the top 5. It was my #2, personally. Great job regardless! |

Thanks guys, appreciate the comments. It was alot of work and I'm glad it was at least recognized for the runner up prize.Raff, it's hand made from polymer clay. The base is mdf and cork. When I was out of high school I used to make custom scenes like his for local comic shops to make extra money. This is one of the biggest I ever made. I still have a statuette of the crow from almost 20 years ago. |

I think you lost because of your subject matter :P Had this been on a comics forum you'd have done quite well. I really like the watercolor style brushtwork. Very subtle, but well done. To be honest, I think the pure black background pulled it down a lot. If you had a goofy cityscape made of cardstock or something in the back, it would be a lot more alive. What is that tiny plastic net being used on the base called? I have been looking for that stuff for a while but don't know what to ask for. |

Yeah I guess you have to know your audience. I really did expect more diversity in the subject matter but I'll know better next time. The fact is this was one of my favorite pieces to do( in a much smaller scale) when i was doing battle scene commissions for comic stores and I thought it was an iconic battle from pop history(it even made tv news). The black backdrop was part of my lightbox. I got the white one too dirty, so ill need to get a new one soon. Most people didn't do anything fancy as far as backdrops, so I don't think it would have helped much. That netting I used for the torn fencing on the base is metal sculpting mesh. It's used for armatures and understructure. |

That is amazing work! As said already, the paint job is great especially on the superman's suit. |

RAFF are you asking me where I bought the piece? It's scratch made from polymer clay. |
