GW held a contest on 9-6-09: "the universe expands; New/Custom Space Marine Chapter competition". Winner got to keep all the models.
I won, and instead of stripping or painting over the other entries, I built this base to commemorate it. Apologies to the couple of guys who had decorated their bases, I did work over them to unify the models. Missing models: second place got to keep his, and I can't seem to find the one my toddler worked on :)
