 Another masterpiece.
In case the allusion is missed by a general reader, the original Coppelius is of course the sinister and inhuman alchemist associated with the figure of the Sandman in Hoffman's Nachtstuecke , both being connected to the hideous fate of losing one's eyes: the Sandman is said to steal the eyes of children who will not go to bed and feed them to his own young, while Coppelius is narrowly stopped from burning out Nathanael's eyes with embers. He appears later in a poem, blinding Clara (Nathanael's fiancee) and as Coppola, selling ''pretty eyes'' (lenses and spectacles) although it soon becomes clear that he made the glass eyes of the automaton Olimpia, which are, too, torn from her head when her creator and Coppelius come to blows: hence the connection of this hideous creature with a torn-out, bloody eye.

Note should be taken of Coppelius' wig: quoting from the Sandman, we have 'His little peruke scarcely reached farther than the crown of his head'', a feature wonderfully imitated on the miniature, as also grey breeches and an old-fashioned coat, all shot through with the horror and madness of Malifaux.
A splendid miniature, one of Wyrd's finest, beautifully mounted, painted and displayed. I am a new member but do not hesitate to give ten out of ten in both categories.
The new Coppelius is inferior to my mind, but with sculpting could be brought closer. The metal remains the better, though.
