It is said that those anguished beyond rational limits, those spirits pushed to such extremes that they lose their sanity, would refuse to leave it when ordained by the passing of their mortal shell. Such were some of the unfortunates encountered by the Count and his rotting men; penitents, prisoners, beggars and beleaguered. Their angry spirits anchored to the undead legion, passing on the anguish that remained with them upon death.
