FOR THIS POLL, PLEASE ANSWER HOW YOU CHOOSE TO PLAY THE GAME, NOT NECESSARILY WHAT THE RULES AS WRITTEN (RAW) SAY.
The Instant Death! rule on page 27 of the rulebook says: "If a creature is wounded by something which has a Strength value of double their Toughness value or greater and fail their save, they are killed outright and removed as a casualty."
The Determine Assault Results rules on page 43 of the rulebook say: "To decide who has won the combat, total up the number of wounds inflicted by each side. The side that causes the most is the winner, th other side is the loser and may be forced back if they fail a Morale check. Note that wounds which have been negated by Armour Saves do not count, nor do wounds in excess of a model's Wounds characteristic, only wounds actually inflicted."
QUESTION: Does a multi-wound creature that was removed as a casualty due to Instant Death! (or some other special rule) count wounds it had remaining towards an Assualt result?
For example: A unit of Ogryns (3 Wound models) are in an Assault against a unit of Space Marines, one of which is a Veteran Sergeant armed with a Powerfist. The Sergeant with the Powerfist causes 3 wounds that, because of the Instant Death! rule, result in three (previously unwounded) Ogryn models being removed as casualties. For the purposes of the determining an Assault result do those three Ogryn casualties count as 3 wounds inflicted or 9 wounds inflicted?
OPTION A. Only wounds successfully allocated to enemy models as part of casualty removal count as being "inflicted". Therefore in the example above the answer would be: "3 wounds".
OPTION B. The total number of models' wounds removed during an Assault count as those "inflicted". Therefore in the example above the answer would be: "9 wounds".
OPTION C. Something else entirely: reply exactly what it is below.
