From TMP http://theminiaturespage.com/news/881279/ On November 3rd, 2007, Matt Sprange - Mongoose Publishing associate - posted the following message on the company's bulletin boards: Hi guys, As we have warned in the past, supplies of BF Evo are initially going to be quite limited. We have already asked the factory to increase production, but there is only so much we can do. Response from European distributors has been astounding, and between them, they have already snapped up around 90% of the first run on pre-order. So, if you are in Europe, you should be well catered for (until, that is, the box sets disappear off your retailer's shelves!). You will also find most European countries will have native language translations in each box set... The situation in the U.S. is going to be quite tight. We are encouraging all retailers to let their distributors know they are interested in stocking this game, because unless they pre-order, it is going to be a pot luck situation for everyone, which is not good. At this time, the only way we can guarantee U.S. gamers getting hold of BF Evo in January is if they pre-order from our website before the end of November. We hate to say this, as we very much want to support retail stores, but our first thought has to be to the guys playing our games. Based on this information, we are strongly urging U.S. customers to lock their pre-orders in with their trusted FLGS as soon as possible. Customer wishing to place pre-orders for Battlefield EVO with our company may do so here. We are committed to applying our standard pricing structure on these items, regardless of supply and/or demand. All pre-orders will be filled in the order in which they are received. Planned Battlefield Evolution releases for January 2007 are:
Chinese People's Liberation Army

PLA Infantry Squad $29.95 USD MSRP PLA Type 99 MBT $24.95 USD MSRP

European Federation Task Force

EFTF British Army Challenger II MBT $24.95 USD MSRP EFTF British Army Infantry Section $29.95 USD MSRP

Middle Eastern Alliance

MEA Infantry Squad $29.95 USD MSRP

United States Marine Corps

USMC Infantry Squad $29.95 USD MSRP USMC M1A2 Abrams MBT $24.95 USD MSRP
Please visit our website or contact us for additional information and ordering details.
Thanks for reading, and happy gaming!

I'm just amused that someone might want to play USMC but find that they don't have the stuff they need, historical parallels and all.
My earlier post was a Rumsfeld quote to that poor chap asking him why he and his lads had to rummage through rubbish tips to find the metal they needed to make vehicle armoring.

Maybe the USMC will have kind of Tyranid effect table. Put your force together and then roll to find out you have no body armor. Exciting stuff.

You know, again, GW could learn something about public relations here.... The funny thing is if GW made an announcement of limited stock most people would accuse them of something nefarious, but then again GW would have just labelled any such thing as a "splash" release and make it available only through their online store.

All I know, is they may well be screwing the game before it gets off the ground. I have orders in with my distributor, no one knows if they will get filled. If my shops get screwed on the first release, and my customers buy it online, then I won't be carrying the game ever.

And that's why Mongoose had better make sure one thing happens here- brick and mortar retailers get their orders 100% filled before online retailers get even one box. Because let's face it- your sentiment is hardly way out in left field. I'm sure I'd feel the exact same way if I were in your shoes.

It is a very hard place to be in when you have high demand and your supply suddenly falls dramatically short of projections. People look at you and go "phshaw! Why do you act like it's a problem?" When it is really a very severe problem.
They probably have a certain amount they need to sell direct to customers in order to make their projected money, which would be why they can't tap their own pool to supply their distributors.
Is this great? No. But if they don't have the money to afford raiding their own pool to supply their distributors, then they just don't have the money to afford doing that.

Hi guys, Just a quick update - we have increased the first run so we have a fighting chance of covering the US. As always, we want to look after the bricks and mortar stores, and are producing a great deal of support material for them. Stores who pre-order from distributors who pre-order (please note, this is not always automatic, and if a distributor does not pre-order, we will not know what their retailers are after) will be fulfilled. If any retailer has any doubts, please contact me at msprange@mongoosepublishing.com, and we will ensure you get your supply through your distributor. We regret any problems our supply chain for this game causes, but interest in Europe has outstripped all expectations. However, I will reiterate, so long as we know of your own interest, we will ensure you have sufficient stock.

Why does every thread on this site have to turn into GW bashing? Boggles my mind sometimes... Has the founder of GW come here and posted? Or any of their senior execs or studio people? No. They haven't. The closest being Paul Sawyer, and that's a whole story in and of itself. On top of this, GW just closed down the last avenue where any of their studio people posted and/or interacted with their fan base on any regular basis ( EoT), though Gav does occasionally frequent TWF. If you don't get why people would mention that, a lot of things must boggle your mind then.

Every time any creator or management type (Jeff Hall, Dave Taylor and Dirty Steve to name three) has posted here, they've all received the same warm welcome... And since when is voicing legitimate complaints about a company's (not an individual's) product and services slinging mud? It's called free speech. Here, people were voicing legitimate concerns about Mongoose's ability to deliver what looks to be very popular pre-painted ultra-moderns and lo and behold, Matt Sprange (one of the company's founders) comes in and lets us know what's up, in advance, clearly communicating to both their customer sets (retailer and consumer) the situation. Something GW honestly hasn't done in years if not longer.

So wait a minute -- so they DO come out here? I'm a confused now. I just reread the thread, and you said senior management and design sorts don't post here. Are Hall, Taylor, and Steve not senior sorts? (I really don't know, which is why I ask). Hall seems to have just posted no GTs on warseer and it got picked up here on dakka. I'm with you on the closing of their own forums, it makes no sense to me. Mongoose's frankness is refreshing. I wonder if GW is more constrained in that approach by being a PLC.

I believe Jeff & Dave are the GW Events management team, while Tim is in charge of GWUS Customer Service operations, but they aren't corporate execs, founders or studio members that make critical company-wide business decisions. This isn't to besmirch what they do, as they most definitely have valuable positions (heck, look at what Jeff & Dave have done with the 2007 GT circuit, something I think everyone is very pleasantly surprised with). Matt Sprange is one of (if not the) founding members of Mongoose Publishing as well as one of it's principal writers & decision makers. His posting here would be on par with, say, Rick Priestley, Jervis Johnson or Andy Chambers posting here (back in the old days at least). Which is totally awesome that he would take his time to let us know what's up. By the same token, I still think it's awesome when Jeff Hall, Dave Taylor, Tyrannid Tim and others post here, regardless if it was part of their job (or not). As far as GW's approach, the reason for that is best fit for that thread in discussions!
