Farty Wiffmas - Thank you. A beast tamer sounds rather cool, like the Rancor Keeper in Return of The Jedi.

HF Izanagi - Sounds like I should have kept him as a chaos lord....with the classic mutation of thumb head (I'd mis read your comment but though thumb head sounded funny).

Martin27 - Say Hi to Ben for me. Cheers, looking forward to seeing your Wolves completed.

I had some good and bad progress on the model this weekend. I also got to enjoy the last BBQ of the year...cooked in the garage while hiding from the torrential rain.

The good is that he is somewhat further on than I had hoped, got the axe haft and arms attached, built the power pack and have started on the mask design for the pacifier helm. The bad was that I got really off when I drilled right through the power pack though and through vent detail. This put me behind schedule having to find something to stick over the hole.

Now look what Migs has gone and done....its look great so far

Hey PDH. i noticed Migs wonderful creation and had me a little chuckle , could be the start of another unofficial pimp my wizard contest methinks.

smells like you making progress though, or is that just burnt sausages!

Hey Neil. I'm afraid it was a halal BBQ, so no sausage.....the chunks of curried lamb and thin burgers were delicious though. I quite fancy bbq sausage now...perhaps it wont be the last bbq of the year after all.

Progress is good. I'm hoping that this evening I'll get the pacifier helm and massive head cable sorted out.

Can't wait to see the helm :-) Any ideas for a paint scheme for the pair of them yet? I've posted some Wolves up, finally, and will put up a load more over the next few days I hope.

Morning Martin - The helm is going well, I'll hopefully have some pics tomorrow night. As for the colour scheme normalish coloured skin, black armour with metallic edges. The overall theme of this monodominant Inquisitor and her retinue will be black/dark colours, hammer horror. I want to purest warband to also look the most evil and frightening...through religious fanaticism, blind faith and an unhealthy willingness to burn a whole village, just in case there was a heretic amongst them.

Since I joined Dakka and started taking photographs of models I have found them to be an invaluable modelling tool. To see how things look frozen. Looking at the model in my hand moving it, changing the angle show me a lot, give me a feel for the model. But frozen taking away the slight shake of my hand shows me other more technical errors so to speak. Here, for example, the face mask in the photo is partially off because of the angle and partially because the horizontal dash above the eye slit horizontal has slipped. Ah well it is fixable with a little cutting and green stuff...

so far I am very happy how he is going...literally transplanting the model from chaotic fantasy to Imperial 40k.

Peter

And doing a bang-up job of it. This guy looks totally awesome, PDH! He looks like he would do more than just burn a village. Excellent stuff. Keep it up!

HF Izanagi - I have such a desire to get another one and give him a thumb head though.

Should I make the bottom of the =I= solid all the way across?

The mask is great Peter and it actually starts coming together now, he doesn't look like fantasy or chaos at all now, a fine henchman.
I got mine today and I'm currently considering using him as a base for the leader of my Espantajos, but I'm not sure yet.

Oh man! That guy looks so awesome! The mask is really amazing and such a great touch. It really makes the model, in my opinion. The only problem I see so far is that the belly button looks too far down on the stomach. I get that otherwise it would be behind the axe handle and maybe look odd not having it shown, but it just looks a little off to me being way at the bottom of his gut. Nitpicking aside, I'm absolutely loving this model!

Make it a bionic belly button.......
The mask is immense though. Looking incredibly sinister. Red and gold, or black?

Chibi Bodge-Battle - Just the effect I was after

inmygravenimage - Ok. I'll leave it.

neil101 - No he is really is 28mm. *bandum cha* Sorry that was a terrible pun

The Good Green - Again, thank you....the menacing comments really are reassuring

Baiyuan - Hmmmmm from looking and playing with the model he doesn't scream leader material. Would be interesting to see what you do with him.

Cadaver - He had to have a belly button. I could always redo it about about half a mm up. But having studied pics of obese men on the internet recently (had to delete my browser history) belly buttons seem to be up and down and all over.

Martin27 - While it is 40k and I'm sure there is nothing weirder that a bionic belly button. Armour will be black with silver edging. The mask will be the same but the =I= will be gold.]

Thanks for the comments guys really motivating. I think I'll only watch about two hours of 24 tonight (assuming the episode cliff hanger isn't too shocking).

Scarper - Cheers. As soon as I wanted to 40k him I wanted to do that to the mask.

Vitruvian XVII - Thanks. CMDante said the same thing. To which I replied "I thought I was taking inspiration from the Arco Flags but now you've mentioned the thorian mask I might have used that subconsciously. I did study the Arcos when thinking about the design though."

Do you have plans for his loin-chains? I think they need something to pull them away from chaos. Just a thought.

PDH - Odds and Ends - Inq28 (Ordo Xenos - WIPS - inc Esher & Orlocks mins) @ 2011/09/23 21:25:10

Post by: Baiyuan

The loin chains are ok I'd say, they look gothic, but not necessarily chaotic imo, I mean it's the inquisition, they are into gothic.

You might be right about him not striking as a leader type. The problem is I'm having lots of trouble coming up with a concept for the leader of the rebels. He has to combine features of a mine worker and a political leader, without looking like some cultist preacher. I would like to have a subtle "Fidel Castro"-touch on him, but I don't want to overdo it. Anyway, base model wise the nurgle lord seems to be an interesting start and we will see if it works out when I get there, but I'm still owing everyone a wizard...

I've just had to put the brute down....or I'll bugger up his GS nipples and purity seals. He has rather large nipples, I'm rather happy with his nipples.

Anyway enough about that. I'm really excited by this one! I wish the gs would dry so I could finish him tonight. But alas that isn't going to happen. He is now also too far along for a WIP shot.

The Good Green - The chain mail is staying. I've been reading the source book Dark Heresy: Blood of Martyrs for inspiration and chain mail fits right in with the ecclesiarchy. The area is a combination of blessed sackcloth and sanctified chain mail....besides under the four large purity seals you cannot see that much of it at the front.

Baiyuan - I imagine that if you give the Nurgle Lord a nice boiler suit he could fit in. I also guess that you would need to choose the perfect head...like Migs has done with his.

Now go paint

Good afternoon

I think it is finished! I was meant to be going out for the day but unfortunately it was cancelled last minute, leaving me with some free time .

I cannot describe how happy I am with him! It looks just like how I imagined him whilst pouring over the white dwarf image.

Migs after seeing Weapon Smith Borsus I had to go back to my base and add the pipe at the rear...though it was fitting

He is absolutely fantastic. Great choice on all of the bits. That lamp/sign post is amazing as a back banner for him. You did just what I was hoping for with the loin-chains. It was the nurgle icon that I was really speaking of, more so than the chains. I couldn't really picture it, besides nondescript cloth over the chains, but what you have done with them is brilliant (love the censor... love everything about him really). All the seals speak to a long and bloody career.

Excellent work!

TBH am not overly keen on the banner
I find it a distraction from the figure itself which is immense in every way!

Wow thank you so much guys that is a lot of really nice comments. Going down the page I think my head just expanded exponentially.

Farty - You're in for a treat. Such a lovely model.

The Good Green - Each seal is meant to represent one step closer to absolution. ....he has many sins to make up for.

Chibi - The banner makes him for me. When he is painted it will have Penitent or Paenitent written on it advertising him as a sinner.

Baiyuan - Ha ha...well joining dakka and showing off my models off to a wider audience has definitely made me try harder. Because there is so much impressive stuff out there. Go paint!

That model makes you happy, doesn't it I am still giddy about finishing mine and can't wait for take two. Like I've told you already, this is one beautiful model!! And getting the love it deserves. Very much looking forward to seeing this painted. It'll be one cool warband!!!!

If I were to improve something, the lowest purity seal seals look a tad donutsy. The ones on the shoulder armor are somehow crispier and better proportioned.

I am mid way another Inquisitor it's the damn between jobs phase... Gotta put the creative urge somewhere... This will be my count as Coteaz for Legion project, so not part of the trilogy.

PDH, just... wow. That's possibly the best thing you've ever produced, and that is really saying something. So much character, so many little details, so much story suggested, he really is utterly incredible. The censers are a genius touch, and the backpack with all the cabling, just... yeesh. He radiates menace.

To be honest, I wasn't that inspired looking at the original, but seeing what you and migs have done with it, I have been more than converted. So awesome!

dsteingass wrote:Please, waht is this Imunda I keep reading?

I can field this one! It's a combination of Necromunda + Inquisitors. Also played as a variation of 28mm Inq. Basically, you create a "gang" of Inquisitors, their agents, or Ad Mech and their agents, or even Rogue traders... really, it's whatever you want to make. Xenos and SMs are also in there. If you read Eisenhorn or Ravenor, these guys (Inqs) go out rooting heresy and finding/eliminating rogue agents of the imperium on any planet their journeys take them. Sometimes, this leads them to go head-to-head with other bands with other thoughts of how things should be done. Not sure, and perhaps others can add to this, but it's best played as a campaign and some role-playing. For our start (and never ended, but soon to be continued) =I= munda Promethean Hammer campaign (and future Darkest Night sequel) there's a primer that a recently uncovered STC artifact was taken by a band of Chaos SMs, whose ship was destroyed and scattered amongst the planets by the warp. We had a purist (no mutants, no unregistered psykers), a rogue trader (all over the place), and the opposite Inq band (hidden mutants inspired by the X-men). The fight goes against Planetary Defense Forces, one another, 'Nids, Predators (want some candy variety)...

Best example would be to search this forum for Migsula's Jade Vessel. Read through all the pages - they're damn exciting, and battle reports laid out like comic books. It's what gave me my start... Xanthos also has some great models, though I don't know the name of his blog for it (Kroot hunter mercs, I think?)... He plays it using Necromunda-based rules, to the best of my knowledge. Or better yet, hit him up with a PM. He's busy, but a guru and firestarter about this subject.

... that was all over the place, but I hope that gets you started! It's quite a journey, but totally worth it, especially if you can gather the terrain and campaign for it!

Yes I've Read all of Eisenhorn/Ravenor and the original Inquisition Wars trilogy...this fascinates me! I will be reading all I can, thank you very much...I've even been fiddling with Inquisitor models in 28mm. I found the Inquisitor rulebook at half-price-books, never really read the rules. I have played the crap out of Necromunda though.

Not at all, Chibi- there are two legit versions (that I know of)- one of which you named. Some people like the extreme role-playing, everything in your pack being like a friggin' person and utilizing it in combat, stealth, or coercion. The one that we play is also based off of Migs'/ Necromunda (migs? Confirm, please?) That one also involves some RP, but since my game group is familiar with Necro and it's ease of use (tried 58mm Inq... failed horribly due to our youth) we use that system. I think Migs' system, to represent the Inq's better-equipped group (rather than the underhive gangs we know and love- Delaques... forever) they come out with more cash and initial perks/skills (3 for the leader, 2 for his "agents", either split or given to one...)

Either way, I'll check out my messages to see if Migs gave me a link to start up mine... almost certain he did. But I'll forward that to you. Either way, and bringing PDH's thread back on track- Peter, which system (if at all- I have a feeling you do 28mm Inq, not Inquisimunda) do you use? If it's the other one, perhaps you could give a breakdown of 28mm inq and get another convert?

I think the most important thing to remember when it comes to =][=munda, and the major thing that seperates it from standard Necromunda, is theme. The only thing grimdark about Necromunda is its setting. While I admit that setting plays an important roll, especially in the mind's eye, it actually has very little to do with the GAME itself. Setting means bupkiss when it comes to dice rolls and fighter interaction and the like, and very little, actually, in the campaign phase of the game as well. Change the names of things like territories around, and now your 40k skirmish is a post apocalyptic skirmish, or an old west skirmish, or what have you...

What =][=munda brings into yoru games of Necromunda is a theme. Now instead of your group of humans fighting over territory and resources with another group of humans, your group of humans, who happen to be psychoticaly loyal to a dieing deity held in stasis, are fighting a group of cultists and mutants who - oh gak! - just summoned a daemon from the warp who is bound to slaughter hundred or thousands of innocent, ignorant civilians en route to causing a planetwide breakdown of society and productivity...

Some folks use the 54mm Inquisitor game rules and just convert it down to 28mm instead, but most use a variation of Necromunda to represent their universe. You can alter Necromunda however you see fit, from merely modeling your models to represent agents of the Imperium or its enemies to writing lengthy sets of House Rules to represent what you want to see on the tabletop. It is entirely up to you. There are 3 or 4 versions floating around the net, if you want to do some hunting try the skirmish games forum towards the bottom of the forum index. Personally, I wrote my own house rules, blatantly stealing from the Inquisitor rulebook and Fantasy Flight RPG books and converted them into Necromunda, and cherry picked some of the bettter ideas I've seen other people use, but to be honest, mine are probably more complicated then necessary.

Anyways, its entirely up to you how you represent =][=munda in your games/campaigns/gaming group. Decide on a theme, figure out how to represent it, and just run with it!

Go! Go! GO!

Copied from a thread I just created in the skirmish games forum:

So, I have been rejuvenated with my =][=munda project thanks to some amazing threads in the P&M forums by Migsula, PDH, and the Pimp My Wizard/Sorceror threads. I have gotten my basic rules addendum to a playtest ready spot, I think...

Here is the Google Docs link:

I hope everyone will head on over and take a look, and give me some feedback. Right now I have it so only I can edit the document, but anyone can comment, so please do! Or feel free to comment here in this thread as well. I will bring updates of armories, "army lists" and the like as I get them playtest ready.

Sorry for the hijack PDH!

These are the rules im planning on using, theyre not perfect but they are a good jumping off point, with lots of work having gone into them..

http://empireofghosts.blogspot.com/p/inquisimunda-resources.html

For me =I=munda is necromunda, inquisitor and dark heresy rolled into one. Its more about the roleplaying and the story than just shooting people imo.

Scarper - Thanks. Man telling me that it is the best thing I've done makes me sad. I've just raised my own bar now I'll have to try harder. I didn't think an almost mindless brute would consider keeping skulls so I decorated him to like a walking alter, someone else dresses him. He is a walking reminder to nobles of what will happen if they cross the line, I've got a clear idea where his story is going. The tech part of the backpack is Baiyuan and his eye for detail threads fault....the sign post was for the gothic horror aspect/contrast.

Nice link scaper - I will have to tell dsteingass how much I like it so far...in his thread. Lord give me more time.

Martin27 - Cheers dude. When you come visit we are having games of both Inquisitor and Necromunda (I've already got the mandatory bottle of port) (you could probably twist my arm into some 40k too plus a visit to the Conti).

HF Izanagi - Thank you, that is I think the nicest compliment ever. The weapon is huge...but so is he.... Plenty of space for adding detail to the casing too....checks and scratches. When I got him I really was surprised as to just how big it is....the normal chain axe was just tiny and pathetic. The Ork Nob box set is just amazing for bits and bobs.

Rogue Wolves, Chibi, HF, Vit, dsteingass, Deathgod. I've never played Inquisimunda and I don't think I have any plans to starts. I love Nercomunda (now using the Necromunda Community Edition) it is my favourite game: the setting, the gangs advancing, the crappy equipment rolls (yeah I would love a power fist....hmmmm I only have 23 creds....damn why isn't there a loan shark territory?) johnny getting captured every other game, the randomness. I like the low life gang concept of the game.

For my Inquisitor models I play Inquisitor 28. Here I love the I just shot at that axe wielding psychopath 6 times and missed....damn I need to reload, damn I have actually run out of ammo. This game feels more epic because of the fine detail. It feels more is hanging in the balance because of the narrative aspects, the not random selection of skills and equipment.

I would like to point you all to my friend Molotov's blog because this is what Inq28 is all about and I think is a fantastic read from the very beginning http://inq28.blogspot.com/2009/07/welcome.html

But of course Inquisimunda is out there and has brought about some fantastic modelling projects, was the reason I joined dakka in the first place and looks like it combines two good games. I think if you are going to seriously start a Imunda campaign you need the right group of people. Personally I look at Imunda as not only a gaming campaign but a modelling campaign. Look at the Jade Vessel blog...it was a group modelling project with a little gaming...Hammer, Northen and Migs nailed it imo because of that. I may be mistaken but I've not seen another group Imunda blog which has combined the story, the group modelling or battle reps. If Mig's ever gets to do a JV part two I hope he doesn't use the two new parts of his trilogy and all three of them start fresh projects for the extravaganza.

Peter, this model is absolutely incredible. It's looks completely different from how I imagined the finished product would look when I saw the WIP pic. It looks like some sick henchman Blanche would dream up. The back banner is brilliant and in a way the best part of the model, as I don't think it would have quite the impact without it. It's just so suitably gothic. I love it!

Really interesting (and refreshing) to hear such a spirited defense of INQ28!

To quote Precinctomega:

Inquisitor is a wargame with the brakes off: a bare-back, white-knuckle ride that takes all the bits you like best about tabletop wargames (the rich context, the dark themes, the shock of conflict) and roleplay games (colourful individuals, the fate of the galaxy hanging by a thread, sudden changes of personal fortune in the time it takes to pull a trigger) and throws them into a single package. It's like a cooperative novel and a competitive action movie rolled up into one thing. It's wargaming for poets. It's falling to your knees in a sea of corpses, an empty stubber in one hand and a bloody chainsword in the other, screaming "If this is heresy, it feels SO GOOD!"

See I have been painting I've got the brute to a stage where it is now just fine detail and some touch ups to:

I'm really happy with the colour of the armour. Built from a base of chainmail with washes of Black Ink with a hint of Blue Ink. I wish I had gone for a slightly more bronzed colour for the flesh but this tone is probably more "realistic" for him.

So the to do list:
Write Penitent or Paenitent on the wooden banner - still unsure which?
Text on the parchments
Tone down the red seals
Wires
Legion of the Damned style flame on the axe
Add some colour to the skin (bruising etc) Tattoo on his right bicep?
Sort out some of the rust I don't like.

Anyway comments and suggestions welcome

Peter

I've been given a few other suggestions Penitente and Repent into the mix for the back banner. As for Penitent and Paenitent I didn't want to go with English so went with Latin but it doesn't look right (the one thing I don't like about the new grey knights...the scroll work is in english rather than pseudo latin).

Oh well I have plenty of time to think about it this weekend as I'm doing my other hobby...I'm going walking and bivouacking in the Peak District (I think its cold enough to make is more fun ).

dsteingass - Three of the best films ever made and you quote my favourite Indy film They are all so good... I always hoped they would make a sequel to the Last Crusade but it never happened .

The Good Green - Ah that is a brilliant idea....I shall practice on little cards.

Vit - thanks....I copied my own skin colour lol....damn my ginger ancestry (thank god I came out blonde apart from the beard )

PDH, the brute is a masterpiece. Really, design, modelling, painting... its beautiful. What i like is that you retain the original model, recognisably, yet it feels like totally fresh mini too.

Well done chap.

P.s. I'm not sure about the idea of a flame on the axe though... only critisism.

I love what you've done on the model! I think you should either do repent or penitent:
a) it's shorter
b) I think it's more fitting for the model: a brute wouldn't be using any type of latin, pseudo or whatever!
^^ agreed on the flames, they'd look out of place.

The Brute is excellent Pete. The Pallid Skin colour really suits him, my fave bits are the purity seals , they are really nice and crisp. although the blue steel look is rather fabulous too, think i will try that out at some point. I have to say , he is a good looking fella ,ginger hair or not, and i think REPENT is snappier for head board you wont have that much space between those nuts.

fasterthanlight - Cheers. I'm going to give the flames a go, it seems like something that would be decorating a witch hunters executioners axe. If it doesn't work I'll paint over it.

Farty Wiffmas - Thanks. Well I don't think the brute will be writing anything...i don't think he can write anymore, though once he was a highly educated man,...it will have been put there by the witch hunter or priest.

neil101 - Thanks buddy. The armour is really easy to do too...literally just chainmail washed with inks towards the bottom of the armour plates and then the edges highlighted.

monkeytroll - Thank you for going to that effort....I hope dinner was nice. I like it and I definitely think I prefer penitent or a variation over repent now...also like the rusty colour on the banner board. Yoink.

Of course I could get the best of both worlds....Penitent on the banner and Repent on his belly.

Thanks for the comments and help guys

Peter

Fantastic work once again. The chainmail and wooden banner fit well with the gothic fantasy stylings of Inquisitor and the helmet looks like it could've come straight off a sprue.

I love the skin tone, perfect for a guy part powered by a smoke beltching engine. The plethora of purity seals make me wonder if they're the result of cleansing rites or rewards for each time he's proven himself loyal in battle. I like to think a little of both.

As for the banner slogan I like Penitent, hell this guy could have Peanuts (Paenuts?) written up there and no-one would question it! He's very intimidating.

The only thing I don't like about this model is that it's so good it's making it hard for me to work on mine without it feeling sub-standard. Keep it up, you're an inspiration.

Rabies - Well thank you. I agree he could have peanuts written up there and no one would question it. As for the purity seals I imagine them to be a little of both too. Perhaps the large ones on his shoulder are a list of his heresies and the smaller ones are rewards.

I was talking to some friends about the Pimp My Sorcerer thread and that yours and Imperial Monkey's models were my favourites. I was being serious when I said I might steal the idea for a mutant for my scavvies.

Any plans on opening up a P&M thread of your own? I'd be interested in seeing more of your stuff.

my favourite of the two...I think of him as a drill abbot.

This one has more of a high priest feel to him. I'm most proud of the flak skirt under his robe.

Since that pic was taken I've painted the parchment, added yellow checks to part of the axe handle and black and white checks to the pistol holster strap (totally inspired by Rabies mutant from pimp my sorcerer).

Both the priests are Empire Warrior Priests with minimal conversion work.

I've been having an eye on the base model since their release, they seem to be one of the most logical and natural choices for henchmen and I still want to give them a go at some point.
Your two are fine examples of how good they can look!
I agree that the first is better than the other in regards of both choice of colors and pose. It's sometimes funny how a more static pose can give a much better impression of "life" to a miniature, than a more dynamic pose can. For me that's the case here, which is obviously not your fault, but the base models. Also the second model is still sweet it just pales in comparison to the first.
Cheers B.

Planetary Governor Daven Kel-Rosber (Deposed)

(The Wax Seals - Really don't look like that in real life. Now I understand Mig's problem with Inquisitor Silas)

I'm massively happy with the finished product he is just how I imagined him: Dark, brooding and massive dangerous with a techno medieval feel. For the first member of my Witch Hunter warband he epitomises the over all feel I want. Now a few of things I'm really that work for me: Back Banner and Shoulder Parchment (spelling inspired by JB artwork buy The Emperor's Will great book). Gun holster strap (Cheers Rabies). Fire Dragon Crimson robes (Thanks JRN). Unusually Abi also helped out....she reckoned the fatty needed some stretch marks on his belly...you can just about make them out near his belly button.

A few omissions I should mention...

No belly tattoo - never in my original plan and after painting the tat on his arm I realised I don't have the skills, to get away with a large belly tat.

No Flames on the Axe - I was looking at the model and realised that they were not necessary and might brighten him up too much.

So

I'm itching to get started on the cultist, who will now be a curate. Flamer, shotgun and a mad look in his eye Oh and the crusader...but I'm stuck for a helmet now.

Rogue Wolves - Thanks

Rabies - They were painted with Inq28 in mind buy mainly they were just models I fancied painting. In fact I think all my models fall into that category.

Scarper - Cheers

Baiyuan - Dude long time. Hope the business ventures are paying off and you get some free time. Cheers. I really wanted to do all the three but didn't get much inspiration from the third one...I think its the shield. Hmmm I might have another look.

Disclaimer - If anything I've written doesn't make sense I blame the clocks going back.

Amazing work Peter ! Loads of great details really set the bar high for any models that follow him.

The bruising on his skin is very realistic , and i have never seen that done before , and another first with the belly stretch marks , so much attention to the humanity in the brute. Has he being flagellating himself as penitence , or is this the signs of a brutal beating for unknown adversary. The colour of the tattoo is also very realistic , and its obvious you did your research into this , as much as you did the bruises.

the penitent writing looks great , and i take back what i said , monkey was right ;-) I could also see the Blanche in the writing too, or maybe that's just Apophenia ;-)

i have always liked the way your old concrete basing looks against the corroded metal ,in your scavvies , and its nice to see it again in this guy. It goes without saying that the writing on the seals is exceptional , "Apostate" .. how did you write that small ..?

The purple is a unusual choice for his raggedy robes , but it works very well and adds a sense of the ecclesiastical to him. It looks like you have toned down his metallic sheen on his bracelet, to tie in the with the rest of the model ?
And finally its a shame that you didn't think that you had the confidence for a big belly tat, because i really think you could have pulled it off .. with panache ...But having said that i doubt this model needs it , Never before have i seen so much life given to the skin of 28mm miniature , congrats Peter its a brilliant achievement ..

oh and the two sigmarite priest are also great , where do keep hiding these beauties.
Kudos to Abi on the details.

Delicious! Although a little of the paleness has gone from the skin it's been replaced by subtle hues of very realistic colour and I love the bruising especially around the arm pipes. I second Neils kudos, the stretch marks are something you barely notice but are one of those small details that just completes everything.

Great decision for the wording, there's often differences in spelling between towns let alone planets and star systems.

The only part I'm not 100% sold on is the flat black of the weapon but that's most likely because I'm used to seeing everything weathered up to the eyeballs these days. It's in no way a critisism though. Actually this inquisitorial team probably have servitors dedicated to servicing their weapons and cleaning off the gore, he's no petty thug. So scratch this whole bit, I've just talked myself into loving it.

Lastly I just wanted to say (and I never thought I'd see myself typing this) I really like his nipples!

He looks amazing. I think you made all the right choices. The skin in particular is very impressive. The liver (?) spots and stretchmarks look good... hm, not quit the right word. The spelling and the fit on the sign looks great. on a last note, the purple rags are a great color accent.

Rogue Wolves - Thanks. After seeing the Nurgle Lord I immediately thought of Victoria Lamb's Witch Hunter Warband and had to imperialise him.

ishkatar - Cool - I'm looking forward to seeing you take on it....if it is as nice as your inquisitor and ganger

neil101 Hi mate. Thanks man. The bruising is realistic because Abigail can be very hitty after a little too much teasing . On a serious note I actually used my sister as a model for the bruising - after she went paint balling lol... the colours were purple and yellow. CM Dante gave me a great link for the tats http://www.bushido-thegame.com/content/ ... lder-story. Painting tiny letters is not so hard as long as you start in the middle of the word and work outwards. Oh and having a tiny paint brush is kinda important too.

The purple is a colour I love, Fire Dragon Crimson was a paint GW did in the early 90's and I love it. Jakob gave me a recipe that replicates it. So rich and opulent. I've not touched the bracelet, the metal sections change colour depending on the light...the black was achieved using Ink. I want to stress that, on the insistence of Miss Abigail, that she doesn't have any stretch marks!

Rabies - Cheers...not quite the term I would use to decribe him....but I bet you'd get some good crackling off him I agree the weapon should have some more chips but I also like it looking reasonably fresh. I might go back and do some more on it. You like his nipples....lmao

inmygravenimage - What dsteingass said. I just google searched sexy stretchmarks and didn't find anything I like

The Good Green - Thanks man. More love for stretchmarks Dakka is full of freaks!

Imperial Monkey - Cheers. I think he looks like a corrupt planetary governor too!

On a totally different subject I accidentally found this amazing blog http://footoftape.blogspot.com/2010/04/burn-witchand-such.html and it is amazing!

Kinda had a break from modelling etc for the last few weeks. It was fun to get up this morning and finish the second member of the Witch Hunter's retinue. The Crusader is finally together.... I hate waiting for GS to cure. The shield is not actually glued in place at the moment, I'll have to paint it separately to get to the detail on its rear and of course the actual crusader himself.

Rogue Wolves - Talking to and looking at Mig's and JRN's parchments has really made me want to push it. Migs has even drawn little pictures on some of his...I need to invest in some tiny tiny brushes.

Baiyuan - Cheers dude...since you asked I guess I'll keep them coming. I started work on a mutie hunter/killer yesterday after finishing the crusader and watching Tintin (loved the books as a child and enjoyed the film as an adult). Using parts from the empire archers sprue and a ton of skulls cut from chaos lord zhufor! Hope you give us some necro goodness soon...I miss the eye for detail blog.

dsteingass - Everyone should start work on a 28mm Inq warband! But it would be better to have a finished board to play on so finish the board first!

Commander Cain - Thank you very much. I'm a little worried he looks a bit mariney but I did use a marine torso!

Rogue Wolves - do it do it do it!

ishkatar - Cheers. The right amout of detail is generally down to human nature...we are innately lazy

HF Izanagi - The static poses are meant to be a counter to the Radical Inquisitor I started but have yet to finish. I'm quite enjoying it, is a bit different. The mutie killer has a bit more movement but I'm aiming for a slow walk. I'm looking forward to them being completed. I need to have it all done by March 13th for the Ammo Bunker bash were Molotov and I will be having a game.

Now come on GW please release St Celestine in fine cast so I can attach her torso to the fine cast vampire legs I've got for my Inquisitrix!

Hey Peter, no worries about the eye for detail, while business is still not calming down, I'm going to get back into the flow now.

I've had several compensatory shopping sprees lately, to make up for my lack of hobby activity, so I've bought two new lamps with high class daylight bulbs (wanted those for a long time for better fotographing and painting), the gw mega paint set, the full set of secret weapon washes (hasn't arrived yet though, bloody shipping USA/Ger), some paint racks to keep everything tidy and on monday I will finish it off by buying a truckload of ikea furniture, to better organize my room in order to make room for an additional desk, because the old one barely offers enough space for all my colors and brushes now. Oh and today I stopped by at a friends place and kindly took a pack of power armored GK, a FW renegade dog handler and two of the new necron lords of his hands. Those are the moments when I think it's hypocritical to make fun of women and their sweet spot for shoes (while my fiancé actually prefers handbags and jewelry).

Anyway I've also not been idling all the time, I tested a new scheme for my tau army and started painting my dreadfleet ships. I'm in the mood for painting and I also really mean to get back into my PMW entry, it weighs heavily on my conscience (which doesn't make continuing any easier).
So wish me luck... or time... or discipline...

I'm in the process of building a mutie hunter/killer Mister Coop Eustis for my witch hunter warband. He will excel at stealth/tracking.

Anyway he isn't ready yet but his pet cyber rat (I'm thinking a small target and a cross between a cyber mastiff, psyber eagle and a bio scanner) I'm thinking of naming her Phoebe after the cat that visits my flat (she likes to fight foxes and is ever so cute when eating spaghetti).

The photo isn't very good but I've seen a couple of errors and bits that need more work. I used parts from the grey knight servo skull and another random pipe I found under my cutting mat.

I think something is missing from the left side of the base....I think something needs to be strewn across the cobbles..any ideas?

Henchmen with pets rule.
For the left side of the base, it depends, is there a story you're telling?
If not go for a chain or spent shells. Otherwise a piece of cloth or a dirty footprint could hint at the rats tracking skills.
About the name, my first (admittedly uninspired) idea was wormtail, then I thought the tail is actually a cable, so I would call it "cables". I like Phoebe though, it's personal and stays true to your habit of giving grotesque things rather cute names. I like the disconcerting effect of that, which is why the bloodied beast that is Samarianne's pet is called "Hope".

inmygravenimage - Indeed!

Baiyuan - It has been suggested a spiders skull or a dead spider. I do like the idea of the foot print though .....hmmmm perhaps I could do both. Cables is a good name....but I imagine the cables came after the name. I think pets need cute names...why would human nature change. Hmmmmm that reminds me you've not shown us any WIP of Hope yet.

Logan - Hopefully have some pics of Phoebes master this weekend...though he won't truely be finished until my bits and kits order arrives with the grey knight small shield, I need to use as a buckler on his left arm.

Capitansolstice - I love that phrase "Cool beans"....and a quick google search shows me its origin http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/cool_beans

About Hope, it's true there hasn't been more than the teasers way back during the competition. The thing is, I haven't worked on Hope since then and I don't mean to before I finish Samarianne. It's too easy to lose focus between the two main parts of a complex project. The second reason is, that I don't want all the converting to be finished when I start painting, so I rather do it in layers, that keeps me fresh and focused. Sculpt, paint, sculpt, paint...
But I guess it's going to take me another week to finish Samarianne and then I'll get back to Hope and will provide proper wip documentary.

Mister Coop Eustis - Mutie Tracker extraordinaire from the ruined hive world of Algea and his cyber rat Phoebe

Neither are totally finished I want to strap a GK shield to his left arm (it has been ordered) and I managed to break one of the strands on the lowest resin skull while I was photographing him. If I ever do a guard army this guy will be my Marbo!

Inquisitor Game wise: Weapons and equipment: Flak on all locations, gas mask, pump action shotgun (10 Scatter 10 Solid), Laspistol (1RL), 2 frag grenades, 2 short swords, buckler, flash light, rope and a cyber rat. Skills: variation of the Blade Master skill but with short swords (Confined spaces only), Camouflage (Industrial Ruins only) and Detection.

DAAMN Peter! I love him, easily one of my favorites!
Don't you dare making him clumsy with a buckler. He looks perfect as is , sooo agile and again you did something I planned to do, he looks like a free runner/parcourist. I wanted to do that for my Delaques, but couldn't figure out how to keep the coat at the same time.
The sabres are spot on, I actually have a started a conversion with the exact same blades, it's creepy man.
Make sure to give his sneakers a flashy color and maybe add a swoosh...

I'm with Baiyuan. Sticking a buckler onto him would unbalance him and detract from the good thing you've got going.

Nice work, great blades , and the skulls are super duper, looks like a change in style ? i don't know why , maybe i have become used to your statuesque inquisitorial guys , and this guy has more movement, he is very much in keeping with yuor hive dwellers though , lovely work, if i was adding a buckler i would ad it to his right arm to counteract the left leg rising , although he does look nimble without it i a shield will be a nice addition either way .

Capitansolstice - Cheers

Death Gear - Thanking you, sir.

Björn (even after a bottle of wine I can remember the alt0246 thing to spell your name) - but I want him to have a buckler, I even did a bits and kits order especially! I'm positive it will work and besides it will be fun to paint. This chap is from the empire archers sprue if that helps you with your delaques but I see him being agile but I really wasn't planning for a free runner I see him slowly striding forward. Man I want to see your conversion with the same blades. Oh and his trainers can easily have an orange tick on for your benefit!

Tlo1048 - Thanks

Ogryn - Zhufor was such a pleasure to paint...so many skulls and such a beautifully sculpted face ...it is just a coincidence that the tracker has eight skulls on his back...five of them from the Zhufor I turned into a wolf lord for my friend martin's birthday

neil101 - heres to Jes Goodwin doing an ace job with the Dark Eldar...lovely Hellion halberd turned into short swords. I was aiming for him striding forward slowing as a good counter to the two statuesque henchman, not running but just moving off but he does look nice and agile. His role is forward tracker after all. If I add the buckler to the right arm it will hide the rope and holster which I'm not keen to do. I've no problem with him being unbalanced as I look at models frozen in time...a snap shot into their lives.

A Kvlt Ghost - Really! Wow. This blog by Doghouse is my current favourite http://s3.zetaboards.com/The_Ammobunker/topic/7521921/1/ if you're in a rush pages 4 & 6 are ace.

Excellent model! I love the trophies and the malvolence that radiades off of this guy!

I agree with most of the folks so far: ixnae on the shield

My one little bit of CC: I believe I have spotted a mold line on the bottom of the shotgun.

Keep up the great work!

Fair Point , i agree with the snap shot theme, its important for the models to look like they are alive. I picked up the hellions myself actually for creating Lilith's Escher cult , i didn't even realize it was that blade

Rawson - Thanks it does indeed look like a mould line....and it is no more

whalemusic360 - LOL...it almost worked...until I realised I need these guys.

Rogue Wolves - My order of favourites goes Brute, Tracker, Crusader, Rat (though I am particularly please with his bionic claw). Once these three are painted I shall move onto the curate and priest. I'm hoping when they are finished I maybe able to buy a finecast Saint Celestine (fingers and toes crossed) or if I am really lucky plastic sisters of battle lol.

Neil - The hellion are such nice models and I'm sure will be great for Lilith's Escher cult. I borrowed a friends Dark Eldar army to fight his wolves and they were such a great unit....along with the Reaver Jetbikes.

Peter, I'm just going to come right out and say it - you are the best modeler on Dakka. Seeing your work really makes me wish I had time for the hobby right now. I hope I will have the time for new works in the next few months, because all of your models are a huge inspiration. I think your are taking your conversions into territory not really ventured by many people. The wide variety of pieces used from so many different ranges come together so seamlessly that they seem they belong there to begin with.

The mutie tracker is, for me, just an absolute heap of inspiration. I've recently got my hands on 4 old Necromunda Magazines, 2 of which have the rules for Ash Wastes gangs and vehicles. Those are still in transit, but I am eager to explore some Ash Waste creations, although I doubt I'll ever get an actual campaign running. One of the other Necro magazines has rules for mutant hired scum(technically an Ash Waste hired gun, but I'll be using mine in regular Necro game), and I feel your mutie tracker fits somewhere in between what I'd like to achieve for Ash Waste nomads, and a mutant scummer.

Hey Pete, so you've mastered the art of Umlaut, congratz!
About my conversion with double hellion sabres, you will see it sooner or later, he is one of the scout riders of berlichingen lionhearts, so he belongs to Iudex Probitas' henchmen and will be part of the game some time.
I'm curious how you'll include that buckler, but I'm sure you have something in mind and that it will work out in the end.

Cadaver - Um thank you, very kind words. Well I hope you find time for some modelling....I'd really like to see your pit slave finished. If I were to ever do an ash waste gang I'd definitely use the FW renegades and the archer kit to make more models like this guy. Those necro mags sound like a good find....I'm really interested in knowing more about the mutant scummer hired gun.

Baiyuan - LOL...I was so proud of myself....hmmm I guess that was the wine The buckler will be strapped to his forearm where the bandages are now.

Rogue Wolves - Sure thing. Body of an Empire Archer, head of a FW Renegade Militia, Flagellant Arms, SM Scout Chest Pouches, Rope and Shotgun Shells, IG Tank Commander Shoulder Pad and Holstered Las Pistol, Hellion Shoulder Pad, Glaive and Hanging Skulls, 5 resin skulls cut from Zhufor, FW Shotgun and a Imperial Icon from something space mariney and a mystery bit turned into a torch lense.

My approach to bitz is a different one:
I've been collecting and saving stuff for almost 15 years and that helps of course.
Back when you could order everything from GW directly I made insane bitz orders, that's why I have tons of spare weapons for my necromunda projects.
I've also bought some stuff via ebay and bitz sites, but just recently.
I'm still sad GW stopped selling all their bitz and I'm very cheap with anything I still have from that era , but since more and more stuff is coming out as plastic boxes I've been stocking up on those instead.
It's a bit expensive of course, but I get an indecent discount and in the end I prefer to have everything at my disposal and browse through it while building, that allows for a less restrained, more ecclectic conversion style. That's why I have most unit boxes sitting in the shelf in case I need some bitz. I don't buy all of them of course, but if I deem them worthy they go into the shelf.
The GK boxes are a good example, I'll be/I am using those soo much, they already payed off, same for the full range of ork boxes. (Ok the stompa was a little over the top, but I wanted those guns...)
I couldn't do without buying the complete boxes anymore, because often I don't know what bit I need until I have it in hands. (Keep an eye on my newly started conversion of a mancatcher, it's the perfect example.)

I agree with that mentality, but when it comes down to it, if i can buy a battalion of an army i am building, compared to a few different boxes that i only want 1 thing out of, i choose the first. although i hope to get to a point where i can buy what i want/need

I only play specialist games and I basicly own everything worth buying from that sector, so I don't have to worry about getting that overpowered somethingsomething for the next tournament. I only buy for fun/collecting purposes and to spicen up the munda projects.

Started painting the Crusader this evening, though my heart isn't in it so I've just blocked in the robes astro grey. Waiting for BBC's Frozen Planet to start at 9 and putting off ironing a work shirt, should have ironed them all on Sunday.

Llamahead - Ha ha...Phoebe is painted and there are a few additions but no food. No pic until the tracker is finished though.

Rogue Wolves and Baiyuan - It is interesting to see how different people get their bits. One thing that I am finding is that I no longer like using metal bits for conversions, I will use them but its just so much more effort.

Sweeny was excellent. One of the episodes where the villains get away with it

Rogue Wolves - She doesn't have an issue with chicken just the sweet and sour. Tomorrow night I'll be having Lamb because she doesn't like that!

monkeytroll - I know I know. But in her defence it doesn't have subtitles, making it quite difficult for her to watch, and she does think John Thaw has it...whatever that means?!

Just so I don't come across as a complete and utter heartless I'm sure I'll miss her by Wednesday....at the moment I'm just enjoying man time!

Looking forward to seeing your crusader painted.

Also my fiance saw what you wrote about early christmas and her comment was "they don't like each other that much, right?" but I'm with you pal, those bachelor days are rare and have to be savored, despite any possible feelings for one's significant other.

She then asked me if I would enjoy not seeing her until after christmas, which I denied since I don't have any desire to become homeless and because it's the truth, but everybody needs some sweet sweet silent private time every now and then. I'll have my share of it inbetween holidays, because I don't have to work, while she does...
Btw. I DO have the power over the remote control, but she tells me which program to turn on. I'm just the button monkey, because she always changes the channel when she wants to turn up the volume etc.

Also I didn't assume you spoke cockney slang a lot. It must be the Mary Poppins phenomenon. British? Cockney!
I simply saw a chance to use one of my few cockney expressions (which is fun) and thought it fitting, since we were talking about winning and chicken. Neither "oriental" nor " platter o' meat" could have been applied here and that's pretty much everything else I can think of right now.

Baiyuan - The Button Monkey...has a certain ring to it.

Since you have no real choice over what is on you may as well give your fingers a rest and give her the remote control. It will mean your fingers will be fresher for hobby based activity.

Platter O' Meat sounds delicious.

Sounds delicious, but it means "feet".

Talking about fresh fingers, I had some fresh ideas. You might be interested to hear that I decided what to do with the fatso aka nurgle lord.
I was slightly demotivated by your brute and migs' whatever it was, because those were very evocative conversions and they showed how the base model could be turned into a warrior-type henchman and I really didn't want to go that way too. So I had the feeling I need to come up with something else and I eventually stumbled across some concept art that gave me the inspiration to do something completely different with him. Still inquisition but not a warrior at all, I'll turn him into a (probably unarmed) archivist. It's going to be the blanchian way of bizarre (I hope).

Baiyuan - Mmmmmm I retract my delicious sentiment......no foot fetishes around these parts.

oooo Nugle Lord conversions are things I'm always interested in seeing. An archivist is something I am having trouble imagining, what head have you in mind....or will that ruin the surprise? So after you've painted "you know who" I insist you start on this project! I'm sure it will look ace if it is blanchian. This months White Dwarf has a Blanchitsu with some beautifully inspiring models by a Julian Bayliss (I'm getting deja-vu have I mentioned this already?) Julian Bayliss's Vampire Counts are worth a look or three.

Oh and have you seen the daemon host Jakob has started? WOW! totally not what I was expecting from the nurgle lord.

Ooo fancy! No, I didn't know Jakob's project yet, nice. And he's using one feature I meant to set my conversion apart from all the others, but that's alright, it's still going to be something else.
I'm not telling anything yet, you'll have to wait. In my mind he is at least half way done already.

Rogue Wolves - very true...but then Jakob is a genius!

Baiyuan - I thought I'd be wasting my time asking about which head you were planning on using. Oh well glad to see you're ambitious as ever...half way done haha to me that stage is when the model is built and ready for painting.

The Crusader is coming along quite nicely but not quickly enough at the moment. I hope to get him to the stage of being very almost finished before Christmas now. I didn't get very much done yesterday as I went to see Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows.

Not bad but the first one was so much better. This time round it felt like they were trying too hard. I also think they should have saved Moriarty for a third film (since films always come in trilogies these days).

The highlight was Stephen Fry playing Holmes' bother Mycroft. Or maybe, Kelly Reilly, Watson's wife who is rather attractive, and the way she interacts with Holmes.

  • What you said about from which point on you start thinking it's half done, unmasks one of my old bad habits. There was a time when for me a project was done when primed. I really don't see it that way anymore, I was just talking about the conversion status, not the whole project, but it's still hard for me not to lose momentum after priming sometimes.

  • Ok, but just because it's you: I didn't know which head to use until this morning, I had some options in mind before, but now I'm set. I'm using the head of an (as it turns out) old havoc. I could only find one very gakky picture of him on cmon, so the teasing is not intentional this time.
    Spoiler:

  • I'm looking forward to see the movie, didn't know it's out already!

I need to neaten up the lettering on the parchment "Dues Imperat Vult" (I wish I hadn't battle damaged the parchment in the middle now. I'll also be adding extra highlights to the shield once it is glued and pinned into place. The Crusader's name is Galvinra Virarchy

neil - I'll never be as bad as Baiyuan. JRN has now finished his Daemon Host. I love the colour of the armour. The Slyth is a lovely model that will get dragged onto my modelling bench if I ever get round to a radical ordo xenos inquisitor or perhaps a fantasy slannesh lord. For the gold I'll be doing it as follows all vallejo paints

    Black undercoat
Charred Brown base coat (on this test I painted over a Khorne dark red pad)
Then its a case of wet blending from the bottom of the pad starting with Tinny Tin > Polished Gold > Silver and finishing with Liquid Gold

    Yeah that's better Peter.
The gold is very good so far and an additional highlight can only make it even better.
The lettering looks a bit scrawly, but you said so yourself. Also if you don't like it, just put some gs in that hole in the parchment and simply paint it over again, shouldn't take you more than 5 min.
    Still looking forward...

    Crusader Galvinra Virarchy

I think I should have left him over night before taking photos after the purity seal...tad shiny.

Really rather happy with how he has turned out., especially the fire dragon crimson robe (thanks Jakob) and the shield. I think I could have spent a little longer on the parchment text but overall I think it gives the right effect. He looks good standing next to the brute but you'll have to wait for the warband to be finished before you get the money shot.

The mutie killer is undercoated and I'm looking at him and thinking...."Why the hell did I put that many skulls on his back?" Oh well better get on with him otherwise he won't be finished by mid Jan. After he is done I'm going to be starting my priest and his factotum. I'll be using the FW Nurgle Priest as a base for my priest...I'll be removing the head, arms, belly, staff. Then I'll be adding a fur shawl, a new chest and belly (GS robes) and arms holding a baptismal mace. I'm really looking forward to the priest.

Capitansolstice - Cheers, hope you had a good Christmas.

neil101 - Hi mate the recipe goes a little something like this: Base coat tin bitz, dry brush a mix of tin bits and shining gold, wash with dev mud, wash with griffin sepia. Highlight a few more times with the tin and gold mix adding more gold. A very thin purple wash part way through the highlights. Highlight with Burnished Gold and then a final highlight of Mythril Silver.

Giraffex's gold looks rather good colour wise, very polished, but a little rough.

Baiyuan - Even the redone lettering looks a little scrawly...but I'm pretty sure the Imperium employs 5 year olds as scribes! Very happy with the gold on the shield and the bright skull.

l33tninj4 - Thanks. Ah but they do...you just need to find the bits and combine them...its part of the fun

Holy crap that's gorgeous. I love the contrast in materials on him. Having him wearing such fine-crafted armor, but with a wooden panel strapped to his back has such a charming, grimdark feel to it. You've really captured the essence of this model. The face is great too. I've been looking for a way to use those Chaos Warrior heads for a while now, and I might piggyback off your idea. The skin tone you've achieved is great. Mind sharing your recipe?

Dex - Thank you very much. The wood and metal seems just crazy enough for the Imperium. As for the skin recipe...hmmmm I wish I could remember it like the gold, I forgot to write it down. But it was a base of Tallern Flesh and a Deneb Stone. Wash of Ogryn Flesh and then highlight adding using various Vallejo flesh colours. Definitely used a purple wash round the eye sockets. Sorry dude.

Neil - Cheers man. God Emperor Wills....it just seemed right. The thing I really like about the model is how most of it is hidden behind that shield.

Before I start the usual nitpicking (tell me if you don't care about it and I'll keep it to myself) I have to say it's another lovely paintjob!
While you're painting skills are clearly above average, for me the special thing about your painting is that you always achieve a certain harmony, that is quite unique. It's hard to describe, but your miniatures give an authentic and complete impression. That being said, let's move on to a more detailed analysis.

    Strong points:
The color and blending on the robe is very good.
The head looks fantastic, no overexaggerated shadows, still enough depth, visible eyes without comic look etc.
The metals have just the right amount of everything, not to dirty, not to clean, slightly damaged, enough highlight etc.

    Weak points:
The chest piece is boring and the paintjob doesn't do the sculpt justice. Considering that you had planned to use it for quite a long time I had expected you'd make it stand out a little bit. I can appreciate that you saved the gold for the shield, but a brighter highlight or ornaments in a different color would have looked better imo.
The parchment is pretty bland imo. I don't mind the scrawly lettering, that has some charme, but I would have liked the parchment with a little more light and shadow, neither is really there I think.
The shade of the wax seals is slightly distracting for me, but I know you were especially happy with it, so it's probably a matter of taste I would have gone for a different hue.

3 vs. 3 and the downsides are just an attempt at constructive criticism where none is really due. I'm looking forward to your mutie.

Baiyuan - No mate please continue sharing your thoughts and comments

The chest piece is perfect imo, I wanted it to be totally understated. Perhaps a little more mythril silver on the chest skulls is needed, as it has lost a bit of shine when the purity seal went on.

The parchment is a little bland in yours and Jakob's opinion. I'll probably go back and dirty it up a bit and a add few more shadows.

The wax seals are not actually that colour...not exactly anyway. Everything else has come out nicely but the red looks a little peachy in the pictures.

Commander Cain - Cheers. I actually need to ask you a favour...how did you paint your commissar's white cloak? I like the contrast of the black and white:

    Spoiler:

Rogue Wolves - Thanks. See B's response about the chest and parchment.

Blood red does that IMO if you don't first basecoat it with red gore first for some reason. I think GW changed their formula for Blood red at some point, it seemed to have better pigment back in the day. You might try a final highlight of blazing orange to bring the red out.

Hmm, let me see, I believe I started with an Adeptus Battlegrey basecoat then blended some Fortress grey into every part of the cloak except the deepest recesses. I then did the same with Skull white. The trick was piles of thinned down layers, building the colours (shades) up nice and slowly. It was made quite simple as the cloak already has very deep areas, if the area I am painting is flatter, I tend to make my own shadows on it to make it pop out more. Hope this helps!

DarkStarSabre, whalemusic360 and everyone else who wasn't sold on the parchment - I've added a bit more paint and wash to them all. Black stipple and dry brush to the ends. Random stains using Griffin Sepia and a lovely mix of Baal Red and Thakka Green (you should try it). Tried to add a bit of shading using Dev Mud and a tiny about of black. Then dry brushed as carefully as possible white over them all. Finally tried highlighting the raised points to add more contrast.

neil101 - I love the mini too...wish the paint job was better.

DarkStarSabre - I'll base it and enter it this coming September lol

Baiyuan - Good God no lets not get onto Zombies for my scavvies . I'm gutted that GW have released a new vamp counts book without any new zombies...gits. But Isabella Von Carstein will be the head for my Inquisitor.

weetyskemian44 - Thank you. I just mentioned PDG to my girlfriend and she laughed in my face....I feel sad now. Great idea btw I'm now off to create a my first paint job thread over on Painting and Modelling Showcase.....unless someone has beaten me to it.

When I saw the news leak of the vampires book and the new models I had to think of your need for new brainmunchas. Pity! Maybe they'll still do it, but I think they are quite happy with most of there old products as long as they are "multi part plastic kits".
Apart from a lack of fresh walking corpses there is a lot of conversion potential in the new releases. Can't wait to see them up close...

"My First Paintjob" "http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/420673.page one of the mods moved it from the showcase forum....something to do with the zombie being unbased....so it is now in painting and modelling for your contributions

Baiyuan - I'm looking forward to those female vampires on the covern engine thingy...he he he. I need a female judge, perhaps parts of them will do.

My first painted miniature. I promised to show this to someone (sorry cannot remember who?) possibly in my scavvy blog. Anyway I found him today and thought I'd share it. Now I've photographed him I'm tempted to strip him and repaint him.

Damn PDH, this must be your best work yet.

Hey Baiyuan. I was only stopping by to have a sneaky (not logging in) look at some blogs but since you asked me a question I felt compelled to answer it.

The mutie killer is almost finished, as it happens. I finished painting the skulls on his back and stripes on his trainers this evening. I've also added two gs purity seals because he just didn't fit in with the brute or crusader. Oh and while we're at it.... part way through the painting process I realised you were right about the buckler and removed it....damn I hate it when you're right and I hate admitting it even more

So should have him and Phoebe photographed and up here on Thursday night , since I'm busy tomorrow evening. I'll also take a couple more pics of the crusader with weathered parchment.

Q0rbin - A real beauty.....if it gets enough votes it might get on the front page

A paint in the arse, ey? How did it get there? Isn't it meant to go on the miniature? Also get used to me being right... I always am!
And btw I think people misinterpreted that pipe, he will not sit on it.

Looking forward to see the sneakers on your scout.

Mutie Killer Coop Eustis and Cyber Rat Phoebe

Please believe me when I say it looks better in real life....I think I need to work on how to take photographs....perhaps I shouldn't zoom in so much?

A few more shots of the crusader with dirtied up parchment..

So I'm halfway there for the Inqvitational just the Inquisitor, priest and servant to do. But now I also want to have a sanctioned psyker, warden, judge, arco flagellant and two Ecclesiarchy servitors! Though these 6 will have to wait until the latter half of the year.

    Baiyuan - I officially hate typos...dammit.

Cool, very well painted as usual.
My highlights are the flashlight, skincolor, knee pads and shoes.
The part I don't like that much are the lenses of his goggles, they look unfinished, no reflection, no gathering light.
About his clothes I'm not sure yet, they look boring, but I know how hard it is to make black/grey interesting without utilizing super strong highlights (which I wouldn't like either). Have you considered some dirt to break up the monotony?
I still like how you abused the gk servoskull to pimp Phoebe. Can we get another angle on "her"?

    Parchment looks much better now.

    Tracker looks nice and moody

Loving the cyber-rat, and that candle looks great.

neil101 - She is...you just want to give her a bath! Oh hang on that is what I want to do every time Abi invites our adopted cat Phoebe into the flat.

Baiyuan - I really do like and appreciate your critical feedback....it keeps me on my toes His trainers are modelled off some I saw in town earlier in the week. I know what you mean about the eye lenses, I'll give them another go. The reason I added the two purity seals was not only to help him fit in but also to break up the monotony of the black/grey. The clothes should get a bit of weathering I guess. While I wanted the other two to be pristine I think Eustis wouldn't mind getting himself dirty.

monkeytroll - Glad you noticed the candles. I imagine that they have reverted to candle because the glow globe they are resting on no longer works and no one remembers how to fix it

Imperial Monkey - Cheers....I think we can thank Mark Bedford for the wonderful face.

Q0rbin - Yes they are flagellant arms...originally both were holding flaming torches.

Moltar - I had to look up Kabel (having not played it since the original game came out) and jeez he looks very similar.....which is cool. Thanks
