Try the Maelstrom's Edge website.

And yes the Mature Angel is a lovely miniature. I'm looking forward to getting my pair painted up at some point.

They had some paint on them in late janurary. They are also block paint and dip jobs rather than complex paint jobs.

Still gonna try get my 8 yakuza and 4 more police finished this month if possible.

Jan wasn't a good one for me, 10 bases of epic units and a contemptor dreadnought.

For Feb however, since alot of people are going big, I've decided to shake it up a bit and get my knight lancer assembled and magnetised.
So that's now done and ready for paint.
Since I don't own an airbrush this will take some time but I'll put pics up when instart making some progress

I feel for you on the lack of airbrush there Jackal.

I don't own one either, but I figure I'll circumvent that by doing all the base color with one of those color primers and just going from there.

I don't mind doing large swaths of color with brush. I just don't want to do the WHOLE. DAMN. THING with one.

I have always wondered about going down the airbrush route. But I having been using a regular brush for so long now I think I have become too old fashioned to change. I will leave these new fan dangled contraptions to you young 'uns.

I broke my double-action airbrush when I tried to teach myself to use it. Not even in a rage(!) Some paint dried on the tip, then it jammed, so when I very carefully tried to clean it, even laying out the parts and taking a photograph... well it went back together but never really worked properly after that, and one of the springs seemed not to work anymore. Honestly, cleaning them is painful and using an airbrush for anything less than a squad at a time seems like an awful lot of work to save yourself some work. Certainly when I watch a youtube vid of someone like Les painting a single marine with an airbrush, I'm impressed, but wonder if I would ever have the interest to clean the brush, change colours, then clean again just to paint some SM eye lenses... Well, I don't wonder. I know the answer.

I've still got a single-action one that I break out every now and then to work on terrain, and I guess I'd be willing to use that for huge things like Knight carapace, or perhaps large mono-colour things like vehicles.

This entirely counts - remember, it's about getting stuff finished! Which can include but doesn't need to include start-to-finished. Both of my own Jan ones were getting things finished, and it looks like I might get another two units finished this weekend simply by virtue of having finally received the last two missing figures/leaders from GW and having painted those!

Airbrush is awesome, I was getting to the point where I'd use it for little spot things on regular 28mm models but ehh. Like has been said, cleaning them is a bear. And expensive replacement parts. And a fair amount of set-up/tear-down time. I usually stick to the brush these days because my workspace is so cluttered but I'm looking into getting a small desk and moving some of my nastier hobby practices (airbrush, stinky lacquer, mass assembly sessions) out to the shed.

If I had more time to sit down and use the airbrush, and I was sure that I wouldn't have to toss everything down and run off to placate a screaming baby... I'd be more inclined to use mine.

Did I mention what I was doing this month? Trolls and Snotlings. Stretch goals.. uhh... do those have to be related to the themed project? If they are then whichever I do second is the stretch If not, I plan to start working on the Mars Attacks redbrick scenery.

Had the same issue with my first airbrush lol.
Since then I've grumbled and ignored them.

Sprayed the beast brown first as I'm going for a slightly worn look and slowly painting away the silver, which is around 90% of the lancer.

Only issue thus far is my bloody paint brush keeps attracting the ton of magnets I've used.
So the shield, lance, head etc randomly stick to my brush.

Got a list up already of my Feb goals, but here's a pic of at least part of it. The Tyranids are already started, and here I have all the guard bar 3 more autocannon teams that aren't built, plus Goreshade the Bastard and Deathwalker. Should have the Guard primed by Wednesday, and hopefully the Termagaunts and Genestealers as well.

Okay, here's my January stretch goals all together.

So, this month will be 4 Skorpios Bombards as my main pledge with my Oathsworn Burrows and Badgers animal adventurers as my stretch goal for the month.

One day I'll do a course or something. Possibly.
Trolls and Snotlings both fit into Orcs & Goblins, so yep, whatever gets finished first is the main thing and anything else is the stretch.

Well, people initially posted what they plan to paint for the 6-month period, so there's no obligation to post "pre" photos or anything. You're certainly welcome to if you like to post pics or a list, but there's no obligation to do so. I had to change my Gondor goal at the last minute in order to make sure I got something done, so either way or cool.

My current plan is to finish the last leader models to complete two units of Black Numenorians, which will be used as "counts-as" Soul Reaver (Vampiric) Infantry in Marouda's KoW Undead army. I also hope to start->finish a regiment of Warriors of Minas Tirith and/or finish one unit of Knights of Minas Tirith for the Gondor contingent. I'll also be painting some DS scenery and Minotaurs Space Marines, but they won't count as part of the challenge.

TP^DC - I hope MEdge doesn't use TLOS for your sake!

I got out of the one trial I was balloted into, and they didn't need us back for another day in the Pool, so my Jury Duty is over after one day. Now I get to go out of town for three days/two nights for work starting Monday. Hoo-fething-ray.

Based purely on TP^DC Deputy Manager's WIP photos, I pre-ordered one of those giant angels, with a couple of terrain sprues to pad out the box. My pledge to not by any more models this year is now officially a bust.

All this talk about airbrushes reminds me that I actually bought one (along with a compressor) for myself for Xmas a couple of years ago. It has been sitting, unopened, in the shed ever since I realized how much work airbrushes are. Maybe I'll break it out this summer.

I think the more expensive airbrushes are easier to clean... Talys recommended the Iwata Eclipse which has less fiddly parts, I'll be getting that one I think!

I do have a badger Krome sat here, but reluctant to use it yet.
Had nothing but issues thus far with airbrushes so I wanna get a cheap one to get used to.

Silver is nearly painted on the knight lancer though.
And for giggles, I've assembled the knight castigator too.
Won't be able to paint both this month, and with my current working hours, even the lancer will be a struggle.

But its pointless setting myself easy goals.

Looking forwad to the burrows and badgers Barzam. I love anthropomorphic woodland animals with weapons...

Right so here is my single pic of january's finished stuff:

This month is samurai! They are nearly finished, but need back banners painting and a better photo taking... this one is a bit indistinct:

Keeping the theme of five man sprues, next goal is the frostgrave cultist sprue which I have assembled thusly:

I may take a while on them as I have commissions to prioritize.

I'm off to Berlin tomorrow to do stuff at the embassy, but then I have the Fasching week off, and I'm planning to paint the lion's share of my pledge.

Loving the Frostgrave plastics, I have to admit the more I see the more I think I need to pick some up!

I'm in the same boat. The more I see the Frostgrave plastics, the more I want to get some myself.

I know our local shop has been trying to get them in stock. They keep selling out of the books, so that's a good sign.

Cultists look like they'd be a lot of fine to paint up. Looking forward to seeing how they turn out!

I've added Warboss to the OP, since Jan was a short month and I said upfront that people could use Feb as their first month. I'm "closing" the addition of any more participants, though - to prevent it getting too unwieldy to keep updated. There's always July-December, though!

I've painted two models (that I was waiting on for months from GW) that allow me to complete two units for the Undead army. Photos tomorrow. Regardless, I'll try for some "stretch goals" since two models isn't much. I'll try to clean up some skeletons this weekend if I have a chance. I'm keeping the Gondor cavalry aside for the moment and getting some gondor stuff ready to paint - 2 small units +2 other models that complete a third unit. We'll see how much of that I manage to get done this month. Hm, three weeks left. Probably not all of them, then....

So for trolls... Should I do similar skin tone to my orcs, or go with something Stone/grey?

the more limited armor will make them stand out, so rather than going with a different skin tone, I'd think a bit more about an extra highlight or wash on the trolls. They'll stand out with their size, and painting them stone/grey makes them look more like elementals or something boring.

If anything, i'd go a different direction with the armor. I did mine with a quick rust on the armor which I think gave a good contrast to green skin, and makes them look more feral:

Rust is a must. Can't imagine trolls are into polishing.

2016's "A Tale of Thirty-Five Gamers" - June, the Final Month. @ 2016/02/06 21:14:58

Post by: Azazelx

I'm not sure about stone/grey for the Mantic trolls.. I'd prbably go for a light brown, though Polonius' heavily-rusted look really works for greenish trolls and provides a nice contrast.

I've "finished" my Undead for the month, by painting these two models - which in turn completes a unit. The unit would have been finished around October-November last year, except GW semi-screwed up my order and then their CSR were a nightmare to get through to for literally months. Eventually a guy fixed it for me, but it took way too bloody long. Anyway, these two allow me to complete a unit, which I'll get up properly tonight or tomorrow.

Officially the models are Castellans of Dol Guldor, but in Kings of War I'll be using them and their attached unit as Soul Reaver (Vampiric) infantry. I think they work well as Medieval-Fantasy Vampiric types who will drain your soul rather than just your blood. Not all vampires have to be 19th century aristocrats, after all....

Unrelated to the paint challenge, I'm looking for feedback on my Minotaurs Space Marines.

Greenshade or not? (the one on our right has some subtle green wash on him.)

Nice undead and minotaurs. I'm bad at colors so I will offer no advice! Look fine to me already.

I may go with a lighter green, basically an extra highlight pass. The orcs had more rust but the dip washed it away. I may go back and add some more now that two units are sealed. Troll can be even more so, or I may go back to my favorite typhus/ryza.

Been working on scenery so far this month but I fully intend to work on the orcs soon.

Nice Angel conversion! Simple yet so much more dramatic than the stock stance.
My first Angel is stock stance and my second is modified but I may have gone a bit overboard with it and now require me to upgrade my green stuff skills to revive him

Here is my February submission. Nova and 2 Shadow Walkers AND a Troopers Unit. (troopers may have been finished in January... please dont dock me points )

And a nice group photo of my finished so far Maelstrom's Edge Karists

Nice work on the Karists. The metallic purple suits them well.

I also like the posing on those Angels. I'm not personally fond of the model, but you guys have managed to make them look a lot better than the stock kit. TP^DC - are those Angels both the same kit? The right hand one looks significantly larger, but they both seem to be about the same distance from the camera....

Here's the next stuff I'm working on:

The two archers will allow me to complete the troop of archers that can be seen behind them. The sword & board guys will be their own self-contained unit and give me two Gondor for the month, and the ballista will serve as a second undead unit for the month. If I get it finished. All of the paint on those aside from the black spray undercoat on the Gondor was done today as well. So not too bad.

Lots more lovely stuff here!

I am getting on with my old-school Ork Dread, most of the base colours are on - Not sure what the original owner used to glue it together, but there are some really rough bits near the joins!

Like when I painted my first one, I am not really enjoying the experience and it doesn't look too great, but a nice heavy wash should bring out the best in it

It is sort of hard to tell what exactly they are, isn't it? They're Covenant of Antarctica Skorpios Heavy Bombards from Dystopian Wars. The Covenant uses mostly mecha instead of the landships favored by other factions. The Skorpios is a spider mech that uses the same frame as the Atticus class Medium Walker. The Skorpios is referred to as a tank-hunter, but seems to actually be more of a fire support unit.

I got my first stretch goal done. This is Morticia Blackwing from Burrows and Badgers. She's a Noctule Bat and, since she's pretty well in scale with everyone else, that means she's damn tiny.

Progress! 8 Corsairs painted. These guys will be used as Bandits in various D'n'D games and as Thugs in Dungeon Saga.

Tried a white background again, but due to my lighting set up it seems to have washed them out a bit. Must fix the set up!

Waiting for some new Varnish as I now have a distrust of the army painter can I have. So I am working on a Yakuza bonus team. My goal is one Skirmish figure or Survivor and 9 Zombies, since I have basically finished my 9 zombies (Varnish not withstanding). I have deviced instead of one Skirmish Figure goal this month I am going to try and entire team of Yakuza for fist full of Kung Fu.

I can only speak for myself, but with only four or five poses, I found it easy to get into The Zone and just paint them in block colors and slap a glaze on them. I suspect you'll blaze through them.

Got my RBG brutes done, but when I applied Vallejo's Matt Varnish to them it's dried a bit shiny. I think I probably didn't shake the bottle for long enough or something. A bit disappointing. Anyone else had this happen? If I shake it a lot and then reapply, do you reckon it'll take the shine off?

Real shame because I was super excited by the models and pretty happy with my paint job on them. Honestly, varnish gives me so many problems!

I've done the next bunch of Corsairs and will take some hopefully better photos in a while - when the wash has dried.

I have slowed down a lot this month due to one thing and another. I have also gotten the first coursework of the semester on Friday, marking the start of coursework season and significantly reduced free time.

I have got some stuff done though.

'Ork' Boyz, I really should paint their teeth but that way lies madness

Next step towards the goal - two Descent Ogres to act as Ogre Brutes or the Ogre PC from the Dungeon journal. Fun, retro-styled minis to paint. 26 out of 40 done! Theo - the descent minis are great in my opinion, and they paint up really nicely. Practically indestructible too which is perfect for gaming pieces that I'm going to be lugging from location to location.

One of the sets (Guardians of Deephall) has noticeably lower mini quality than the others though. The others are all really nice.

High time I posted a status update as well, lest I forget.

Instead of finishing those annoying infantry models I've been "rewarding" myself instead with working on tanks. The two Executioners are more or less done now, both have their decals in place, they just need to be sealed in. The Exterminator still needs to have some titbits done, such as the searchlight, the cable connected to it and the vision blocks. This is the third vehicle of the squadron, so two more to go.

After that though.. back to those Raging Heroes models.

I would post some progress photos. If progress was being made. Can't complain too much about a fairly social month. But certainly eats into the painting time. Have managed to secure a trade for a Tyrannofex so fingers crossed it turns up soon.

On a different model note; with GW discontinuing Tomb Kings, if anyone has any Ushabti, Bone Giants or Necrotects lying around I would be interested in having a chat.

But hopefully more Tyranids soon. Two weeks is a long time....

Bah, you will make me blush, they aren't that special! Pretty much everything I do is basecoat, (maybe) drybrush, dip, matte seal. There's a little more here or there but nothing like smooth blends involving mixing half a dozen colors! I've just managed to find a few parlor tricks to make my minimal efforts look nicer than they should

Archer and Thraxas, me too, we'll get it done yet!

I went with a lighter Titans' blue. I know what I'm doing, and I checked out plenty of artwork before taking the plunge. Yeah, Titans tended to be darker, but there's plenty of lighter versions out there. So hush with your Gundam nerd talk. There was an actual Tau sept with similar colors, so it's official. Nyah!

That throne thing... I can't make it out either. It's weird. It's got flesh parts, metal armor parts, chrome pipes and exhausts, mouths and teeth, skull acne embedded everywhere... just need to put it on a base now. No clue how it even moves, or why everyone is chained to the thing.

The guys on the front platform look like a pair of gymnasts at the circus or something perform. "Ta dah!"

Female Commisar (hair & detailing)
Infinity Chimera (detailing)

and a few stretch goals

Yeld Rig Hive Spyer (primed)
Vrosh Tattersoul (final details, base)
Blood Angel Sgt (final details, base)

better get to it - they're just the tip of the proverbial iceberg!

and whoa... there's a ton of new stuff in the last few days!

TP^DC - I like that purple-web effect that you've achieved on the MEdge Bats.

That's a nice gathering of Khorne, Highlord. Did you pick up a "Start Collecting" box?

I like the fox, Barzam. Nice and understated, but effective and subtle.

Cool looking Trukks, Puffin. The captain looks interesting. I'd love to see a better pic when you get a chance.

Ulf - that's a sexy looking bunch of WIP 'Nids.

10 days to go! I think I'm going to find it hard from next month onward to keep up my hopeful pace, since I'm not able to do much outside the weekends anymore, and have to fit painting in with all of the other things I want to do on the weekends...

Hey guys - I've started to "fill in" February's finished pics in the OP. If the people with gigantic images could shrink them down a tad it would be great. Also, if you're one of the many people who somehow manage to finish reams of figures and stretch goals, I'll wait until you post an end-of-month pic that would (hopefully) combine as much as possible into one smaller, more manageable image for the OP.

Awesome!

Yeah, I'll be doing the whole lot together once I finish the final 4. That'll be 40 minis for this month, which is pretty good. I did have a week off in the middle of it though!

I gotta get ahead of myself because I'm getting married in the summer and taking a honeymoon to Iceland (hopefully!) so I gotta count two months pretty much as dead painting wise, and I still want to reach 366 minis for the year.

But it sounds so [i]cold[/]! Ok just ignore me, I'll show myself out....

Well my Tudor polyshades died. Replacement is a couple of weeks out. Gonna try ghost tint brown on my orcling base so I can get them finished.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Whoop! The ghost tint brown is a touch darker than the minwax was but it's close enough. By the time I got the grass and models on there I can't really tell too easily. So that's the month's goal done.

I've got almost enough Orclings to cover another regiment base like that, so I may knock one of those together sooner than later though no promises for this month.

Azazelx, what is a humongous picture roughly, in KB/pixels?

I'm still using a ten year old 4 mega-pixel camera so I've probably nothing to worry about...?

Uh... if you can get the picture size down to about 400-600 pixels wide, then it's about perfect for posting here. You should be able to resize pretty easily in whatever free paint program comes with whichever computer you're using.

You guys are kicking some serious arse with the painting - both numbers and quality. I'm seemingly barely able to finish more than a handful of models each month now, My YTD total is massively inflated by a bunch of jersey barrier scenery I've been working on 10-20 at a time as a side project after work. (40 done so far)

Lovely work on those orclings- they look fantastic. The more I see of GoA, the more I like, too.

From top to bottom - Descent Manticores for Dungeon Journal, D'n'D and Descent, a scale shot for Theo, Splinterfist the Gang Leader (actually a villain from Descent), a Human Ranger with rifle and my finished Feb Pledge.

Might try for some more descent odds and ends as a stretch goal for myself, and next month move on to Wrath of Ashardalon.

Life got in the way of painting as it tends to do so often.

Had to scrap the knight this month as I paint slowly as it is, let alone trying to paint it in 7 days lol.

So, quick update as I've started on some epic necrons instead.
Want atleast one unit (6 bases) with a monolith transport done.
2 lots would be nice though.

Horrid camera pics too for wip I'm afraid.

And here's currently my necrons army in its Epic glory.
Building immortals, destroyers, wraiths and some tomb spiders at the moment aswell.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the figure. He's great looking and very well sculpted and cast. No, this was just one of those projects that I didn't enjoy working on and really had to force myself to finish. I'm sure you've had some like that. I suspect it might be burnout, so I'm going to try and take things a little slower for the rest of the month.

Great stuff here guys - time to start compiling the photos of completed goals and stretch goals - group shots are best for space reasons though I'm more than happy to link to whatever you like (except goatse!) - and bringing them down to a reasonable size so I can update the OP with February's tally. - perfect size BTW, Weety.

I've literally just finished off the last pair of figures for my Gondor goal. So spray varnish after I check the weather forecast for today (no rain, hopefully!) and photos tonight or more likely tomorrow.

Well, managed to get all my Guard and Cryx done, but unfortunately I didn't get any stretch goals done. Probably because of how much I'm looking forward to uni, I've been to orientation events 3 days in a row when none were necessary, but it's killing my hobby time. On the positive side though, I've found a roleplaying society at my uni that are expanding into tabletop, so I'm going to be very active there, and I have a Mordheim campaign and 2 D&D campaigns starting up, hopefully Rogue Trader as well!

All this month's pledges (Azazelx, if you could please use this picture, that'd be great )

All the Guard

Command detachment and their Chimera

Plasma squad, command Vanquisher and attached Medic

Melta squad and their Medic

Autocannon squad and Medic for an as yet unbought 2nd Melta squad

Goreshade the Bastard and Deathwalker. Absolutely love these 2, working on them was a blast and I cannot wait to use them in a game. The fluff behind Goreshade is really awesome too from what I've read, and those 2 things combined are what made me start Warmachine, and start with Goreshade

Deathripper Bonejacks

Defiler Bonejack

Slayer Helljack

She's not a commercially available piece. I couldn't tell you where to get one, I genuinely don't know.
I think the show and date are on the rim of her base, she was the entry figure for a UK Wargaming show.
It's a pretty personal piece considering some stuff behind the organisation, so I'm absolutely overwhelmed at what a job Jan did there.

You should see the plans for next month then.... If all goes to plan, I'll be mostly clearing my backlog, which is:

2 models for D&D, a Reaper half-elf ranger and eagle
5 man heavy support squad for 30k
Grey Seer, 30 Stormvermin and basing on my entire Skaven army (3 rat ogres, 80 clanrats, 2 weapons teams, 3 jezzails and the previously mentioned models)
10 man tac squad, Interrogator Chaplain, Belial, 5 each of Deathwing Terminators and Knights and a converted DA Deathwatch operative
60 Termagants

GOALS FOR MARCH:
My plan is to get the termagants done for a friend (they were a stretch goal for February that didn't work out), then the D&D models painted for the start of my campaign, and the Skaven finished. Everything else isn't a major priority, so they'll be the stretch goals.

I'm also probably getting the Age of Sigmar box set Khorne side, the Nurgle start collecting bundle and Morbidex Twiceborn, as well as some more Cryx models, so they might be added in somewhere down the line. I should be getting the Cryx in the mail next week, but I'll wait until I get the rest of the models I need until I paint them up.

I'm well into March's pledge:

12 Gondor Swordsmen. Started about 2(?) weeks ago. I'd hoped that they might have been finished in time to stretch-goal February, but I only got 6 done in time (sans flocking the bases). I should be able to get the highlighting done on 3 of the remaining ones per lunch break for the next two days, then it's just waiting for some quiet time at the end of the week to finish their finer details and they'll be done. Then it's onto the Undead.

Started on these 2 units of 12 each of Undead spears a few days ago. Well, one of the units only numbers 10 since I intend to incorporate 2 models from the same manufacturer/range I finished last year into the units. Hopefully I'll finish both, but again - skeletons highlighting and shading is "lunch break" painting, so I'll probably save a lot of the actual work on these guys for when I'm at work. I'm hoping to get the bases done today so all the "monkey work" is done before I go to work tomorrow.

Once I get the Gondor guys finished, I'll pull out that first unit of 6 cavalry that I tried (and failed) to get finished in January. Other stuff, like Minotaur Space Marines and Vikings will continue to be worked on in the background - though if I manage to actually finish whole units I guess I can call them stretch goals as well...

Robots would be a set of warbots by Oathsworn, followed by a bunch of 6mm Mecha Frontmodels. If I finish early, I can move on to Striders and such from Deadzone.

I think my March pledge is going to be:

1 Trygon
2 Zoanthropes (3, if I can manage it)
At least 5 more RPG figures. Think I'm going to tackle a selection of wizards and their familiars next.

There's always July-December!

Or do warbands as your stretch goals/backup project to keep yourself from getting too bored - like I am with the Minotaurs.

Here is the test mini I finished today. I think I am going to call them Alpha Corp

I like that, he looks good. What did you use for the uniform? I can't quite tell if that's a green or a really dark turquoise?

I'm having some second thoughts about my stretch goals for March. I know for sure I'll be doing my Orpheus Drone Controllers from Dystopian Wars as my main goal, but for the stretches, I was thinking at first of doing MERCS. However, I've been getting hooked on painting Dark Mariners from Deep Wars/Shadow Sea. So, corporate commandos or fishmen?

You have expressed dissatisfaction with painting the Orks so if you would enjoy TNT warbanda switchm warbands would be more varied and interesting than orks

Or when you complete your goal then a warband as a stretch goal for TNT could help motivate you AND clear the backlog

Edit: My Feb. group shot.

4 Black Plague survivors, 18 zombies (12 need to get stong tone coated, but my container full turned solid . 2 Dungeon saga zombie trolls (ones a shaman) and some dungeon saga terrain.

Dwarf, Barrels and the well

3 survivors being chased by 6 completed zombies, a zombie troll, and a zombie shaman who may or may not be controlling them.

12 more zombies waiting for their goo bath

March Goal.....last 2 survivors of the black plague (till the rest of the pledge arrives and I get 40 or so more , and the rest of the zombies from black plague main box (24 left). I find batch painting them speeds things up and I actually got all of their skins done in February, they just need clothes no naked zombies, theres no good call for that.....ever.

Some more Warbuggys. I have no idea how many buggys/tracks/Skorchas that I have done now but it must be about 50.

February's completed stuff:

I've cheated slightly as the Frostgrave soldiers I only rebased but the Wizard, apprentice and Captain were fully painted this month.

I don't have anything set for March and I won't have anything for April either as I too much on. I will probably paint something during that time though and I should have all my Orks done by the end of June.

Wow, all of this is brilliant and too much to comment on all! I love keltikhoa's corp guy though. Very corporate, nice green.

^these epic orcs are brilliant. I bet collecting epic saves on shelf space!

I am running severely short on shelf space and may have to start considering what to sell. I'm keeping the 80s stuff that's for sure... but my next monthly goal might have to get sold while they are still cool and new, so the goal is to give them a paintjob that'll sell em for more than I payed for em:

Thanks Barzam. The main color is a 1:1:1 mix of imperial blue :turquoise :black (vallejo colors) then nuln oil washed, then highlighted up with a series of greens.
I was inspired by STC_LogisEngine alpha legion image that was on the front page of dakka dakka a couple days ago.

Great work guys!

Puffin - remember - it's about finishing units. Sometimes that might only take one or two models. Or an hour's work on a unit for the final touches. It's not a "start-to-finish, show off your unpainted models with the date behind them"-type painting challenge. There's plenty of those out there and they're fine and fun to have, but this one is about getting stuff finished and (in theory) onto the table. Even if you started them a decade ago... (and yes, all these criteria fit me to a T - that's why I made up the rules this way!)

Weety - figure cases as a storage solution? Then you can rotate what's on display like a museum. Depends how much you'll be gaming with the various models, I guess.

Nick - looking forward to seeing them!

Azazelx. The only game we actually have room to play is adv heroquest or DnD, so all I really need to access is a small selection of fantasy monsters and heroes. But I like to collect and I've got well over 300painted figures rammed into a display case! At my rate of painting it was inevitable I'd get to crunch time soon. Better start looking into the foam storage. Even so the plaguebearers must go once painted.

I love the blood reavers! they look nasty...

Some amazing work going on in these pages and definitely keeping me accountable for my own progress. Very much enjoying it even if I get stressed towards the end of the month.

So after an epic painting session with a mate on Saturday night (only got home at 4am) I have managed to throw this together for my February pledge............

Happy for this photo to be my "official" one for the month. When I get more time I will also do a more in depth photo shoot on my blog as usual. Just under the pump at the moment so this is all I have for now.

Next month will be more of the same. Unfortunately I won't achieve the Nids in 3 months, underestimated how many of these Termagants I needed to support the Tervigons, but better to have too many than too few. Plus it buys me more time to try and get some now out of production Tomb Kings model for the other army I had planned to do.

Oh I should mention February consists of 20 Termagants, a Tervigon (with a converted Norn Crown) and a Tyrannofex with a Rupture Cannon.

Thanks for the kind words on my models - they are the basic models from the Age of Sigmar set.

They were actually pretty easy to paint -
black undercoat sprayed.
then white sprayed from a high angle,
then some washes - just over the white/black,
then some block colours,
then a few last washes.

the bases all have some details from the citadel warhammer basing kit (which I have been meaning to use for ages), or some of the unused bits from the bloodreaver sprues.

This thread has really helped me focus my painting / hobby time!

Mission accomplished.

Start Collecting Khorne and Skarbrand completed!

I still need to base a few Bloodletters. I ran out of glue.

Got those darned Bloodcrushers all wrapped up.

And well into my stretches for February... but that's because I started them in the middle of the month as I was getting sick of painting various shades of red.

I think March will be my time to finish up my Start Collecting Tau, and then it's on to character models for a bit. Maybe some undead stuff. Possibly a few random Brimstone figures.

Got to paint;

9 thallax
Character
Thanatar
3 vorax

All assembled and based just need painting.
Do need to bend and fit the ammo feeds for the vorax however.

Goal wise I want a unit of 3 thallax done minimum.

There's my march pledge.
Front left: Orcs and Orc Archers, lead by an Orc shaman. Gonna paint them as Bugbears because I don't have any and they feature heavily in two adventure paths I want to run.
Behind them, Bears, Snakes and an Otyguth, as well as a trio of cultists.

Centre is the Dragon Ashardalon, which I will be painting red. In front of him are 3 kobold warriors and 1 kobold leader. That brings my kobold total to 11!
Front right, Heroes - Half Orc Rogue, Human Cleric, Elf Paladin, Dwarf Fighter, Dragonborn Wizard. Also two descent heroes. Directly behind them is the Rage Drake - I wish I had a bunch more of these because I would totally use them as a mount for something! Next to them are the Legion Devils who will probably get used as Tiefling rogues, and 3 Duregar Warriors and a Slavemaster.

The very back contains a pile of aberrations - floaty tentacle brains called Grell, piles of gibbering mouths and staring eyes called Gibbering Mouthers and a Gauth, which I will use as a Spectator for a D'n'D adventure I am planning.

TL,DR? I am painting all the dragons in all the dungeons this month.

Okay! We're 1/3 of the way through this challenge and there's some really nice stuff happening - both quality and quantity. I know that probably most of this would have happened anyway, but it's still good to be in a group encouraging one another to keep it going, and for me it's been good to make sure I finish more stuff for those armies I'm working on.

I've updated the OP with more pictures, but between work becoming more demanding in the last few weeks and the OP becoming nightmarishly long, I've no doubt missed some people's Feb photos and there are probably a couple of people who haven't posted theirs up yet. Can participants please check the OP and let me know if I've missed your Feb pic or made any mistakes so I can sort it out. Likewise, if you need to get your pic up for Feb, then it'd be great if you could get it up by Sunday night AU time, which for most of you is going to be Saturday or Sunday morning your time. That way I can update before I go back to work for the week.

Nice work Da Boss and weety!

Here's this month's entry (early too!):

Orcling Regiment #2. 28 orclings and their base. Honestly could probably pack more in but given the poses they have I didn't want to. If some of them were up on the shoulders of others or what have you... but I'm happy with the density here.

Here's the two orcling units arranged in Horde formation. Not sure which is more desirable in the game, but I have both options now.

They don't look as good from the side (the way the units join is more obvious), but I think they work out well in any case.

And here are the orcish hordes so far, a nasty block of troops, fast hard hitting cavalry, and a couple of screens to help the main units get to combat. I think the force could use a leader to help it look more complete, if still small.

Oh and Azazelx use this for my February Final..Foto..wait.. anyway:

Great idea, Zergsmasher. I'll keep the "just finished" month and the current month on display, and I'll spoiler the previous ones. I'll add any February straggler photos that turn up in the next few days before "officially" closing Feb.

No worries, Nick. gak happens.

I've noticed that a few people who signed up originally haven't been seen or heard from since those original posts, though. I won't "kick" them, but July-December will probably be a less "open" group with mostly just the current/active participants (if they wish to continue).

Lord knows I have enough stuff to continue painting July-December, SO as of right now I'm in for that too. Nothing to show for today. My son and I got to play Zombicide today for 2 hours by ourselves as the lady folk were at a T.E.A. party (forget what all the acronym stood for, but it was a school technology thingy for girls only). Much zombie killing was done, and I need to get some more survivors finished, so They have gotten moved up the que for this month.

Hurrah! I managed to pull myself away from painting other things to actually work on my pledge for this month. Today I finished half of the month's pledge.

This month I'd pledged to work on my Orpheus Class Drone Controllers for the Covenant of Antarctica. Well, I haven't worked on the Orpheuses (Orpheii?) themselves yet, but I did work on their drone tokens. So, I give you six Covenant of Antarctica Drones.

Yeah, they're kind of phallic looking. I'm not a fan of these things, but apparently the COA can field a lot of the little bastards.

It's only the 6th! I can't believe people are already knocking off March. I haven't even picked up a brush towards the Tyranids this month. I am working on something a little different for the next couple of days though so not completely idle.

Huh. You just reminded me that I forgot to put my finished Gondor unit pic in the thread.

I planned to work on the Knights, but got sidetracked and started another small unit of archers last night. They're not a whole lot away from finished, amazingly.

Just a quick pic of what's lined up so far.
Missed the 3rd Thallax from the pic but oh well.

So I have.

3 Thallax
6 old metal necron Raiders
1 old metal necron Lord
2 old metal necron destroyers

And not pictured is a thanatar I'm still basing.

Edit: forgot to mention a Culexus assassin too that is drying after being primed.

Finally got a photos of February's mini, a Karist Mature Angel:

Tried to keep the using the turquoise I used on the troopers to represent the cybel energy stuff. I think it came out quite well. Started with a 1:1 mix of the turquoise and german grey, washed it black and then dry brushed it all over with a 5:1 mix. Finally the eyes and mouth were simply painted turquoise. That it took me all month to produce something so simple show how busy and ill I've been recently. I really hope I get more hobby time this month. No idea what I'm going to be painting probably more Karist stuff.

Procrastination mode is fully active this weekend so I have been finishing off my remaining Warzone rather than doing stuff I should be doing.

Martian Banshees

Air Cavalry

The Banshees and Aircav just needed a wash and the bases finished.

Captain Henry Thomas who I painted from scratch.

I think I will finish this army, at least to 1000 points, in the vain hope that I can find some opponents as the rules would make for quite interesting game, in so far as its possible to tell from reading them at least. 2 full squads of Light infantry (Air Cav with different helmets basically) would do it.

Havent been able to take photographs yet (Had a lot going on) but I managed to do the 9 zombicide zombies and the Yakuza for Feburary. I didnt finish the basing however as I want to base a bunch at once and I have no putty to build up around the integral bases.

This month I am going to take a break from Zombicide and try to paint up a faction for This is not a Test in preparation for their kickstarter. I am unsure which of the three I have avalable I will go for or if I should just kitbash something from plastic kits. We will see.

As far as stretch goals this month dunno. I'm painting stuff but it's so far removed from Orcs I don't know if I can consider them stretch goals. Maybe I'll knock out the leader or something one of these days.

I'm kind of cheating with my goal this month.
Having a hard time settling for something specific to paint.

So just took a pic of a chunk of unpainted and based models and I'll start from there.

Just primed 3 thallax, an old necrons warrior to test a scheme on and an epic Eldar avatar aswell.

I'll see where that leads to while I dump more and more sand on the base of the thanatar :p

The next part of my pledge - dungeon critters! I like the Otyugh, he's got a lot of character, though his teeth could have done with better definition. The bears and snakes are just okay, nothing special.

Next up, a gaggle of aberrant beasties.

My painting has been a bit random so far this month.

Completed:

Mechanicum thallax
Epic Eldar avatar
Epic necrons destroyer
Metal 1st edition necrons raider

I tend to jump from one model to the next rather than finishing units.
May get the Epic destroyers done and dusted as I only have 6 anyway.

Do however have my deathwatch overkill here now.

Elf is done now apart from basing, and I have a unit of Bane Thralls 90% there. Probably going to change up the goals for this month though and cap it at what I already have started plus the 60 Termagants, uni is taking up a hell of a lot of my time and I have no time to paint!

Cheers - those plaguebearers are lovely, I love the detail on all the gross pustules and sores. The models are gorgeous.

Gauth.

Grells:

Gibbering Mouthers:

The aberrations from WoA. Love having these models, freaky weird tentacle creatures are a dungeons and dragons staple!

28 down for March, I'm doing pretty well this month! Still got a 14 to do from this set and 2 descent heroes. On 98 minis for the year so I might just knock out the two descenters and bring myself up to 100.

More robots!

These are Talos units from Kryomek, if anyone remembers that game. We never actually played, but I remember the models being fine stand-ins for Tyrannids in 40Kv3 or thereabouts.

This robot project has really killed my model-per-month count...

Still needs some work (trying to make functional front and back doors for loading players inside a la trojan horse, and my polyshade/armypainter deeptone had dried out and I need to get a replacement pot.

No wooden badgers to be built....yet, but I might try and build a demolished one to have after this gets dropped on someone.
