Well aren't 'nids just flavour of the month all of a sudden... Having painted and lurked for about a month or so, these boys are almost ready to play...

So, the broodlord infiltrates with his crew, or outflanks depending on what's goin on. Infiltrate will be more likely, gives me more initial synapse on the table. We have plenty of cover at my store.

The pair of lictors give me nice scutling re-rolls for the 'stealers and If I place them right I'll get the tendril support for the non-retinue stealers. I'll try to spread them on either side of the board, if that looks smart, so that they are in the right place whatever happens with the outflanking shenanegans.

Flyrant kills big tanks or nasty tough stuff, dakkafexes kill light / med tanks and makes huge holes in troops. CC'fex chills with the dakka fexes to give them some protection or does his tin-opener impression on tanks that get too close. The gaunts will either loiter with the fexes, or move up to the broodlord and screen his stealers if necessary. I can always fly the tyrant back to them if they need the synapse on an objective.

Everyone NOT carrying a gun piles in and gets killy with it.

Looks like a great list!

I've been playing Nids in my local Tournament that's been going on for the past 4 weeks and I've been taking an odd combo list that seems to be doing well for me. My first game was at 1000 points and was I took a list that was basically a Flyrant Dakka Tyrant two Barbed Scything Carnifexes and the rest of the points that were there went to outflanking Stealers. On a 4x4 board the list is killer. Start all three TMC on one side of the board so they are as close as they can to something but far away from the mass of firepower rush them up using the Tyrant for cover and blast the hell out of whatever you can. Then outflank and eat everything as soon as your models come in. :-P As for when I moved to 1500 I started taking warriors for lots of scattered shooting. I still can't decide if there worth it but the last game i had a brood of 5 warriors 4 with S6 Deathspitters and one Barbed Strangler and that squad was quite the target especially with a brood of gaunts infront of it to give it a 4+ save.

Now this looks like a scary list.

My only questions would be why Catalyst instead of Warp Field on the Flyrant, why not have the Gaunts in two seperate squads of 11, and why have Gaunts near the Fexes? To prevent the Fexes from being assaulted? They don't give the Carnifex cover saves for screening since they don't cover 50% of the model. I wonder about Catalyst because your Stealers are I6, they pretty much aren't ever going to get killed before swinging.

I like the idea of Acid Maw Stealers getting Tendrils from nearby Lictors or Broodlord Retinue.

Fair points on all counts Kirbs,

Catalyst i think might be the result of playing Dwarves for too long I can't cope with initiative higher than 2... Do you think it''s worth swapping it for a few gaunts to get warp field, or keeping him cheap and going for shadow in the warp ??

The gaunts I was envisaging as a speed bump for the likes of assault marines, or other fast moving portable powerfist platforms, but I guess I'll play that by ear, two units is definately a better idea.

I personally don't worry too much about the Ninjafex's superbly low initiative. Those Assault Marines have to roll 4's to hit him and 6's to wound, and then you get your 3+ armor against it. I don't think I've ever had someone kill my Carnifex outright before he got to swing back at least once. Warp Field, on the other hand, makes your Flyrant almost immune to small-arms fire and anyone who doesn't have Power Weapons.

Having a Speed Bump against things assaulting those Carnifex isn't a bad idea assuming that once something hits that bump you either fly your Tyrant in to counter-assault them, or take a few steps back and blow them away with your Devourers once they're finished mopping up the Gaunts. For me, though, those Gaunts are my objective claimers so I tend to keep them safe in cover until they're needed. Of course, this doesn't matter in a kill point game.

Wasn't quite what I meant - Dwarves have initiative 2, as well as fexes...

Where would you recommend finding the other 25 points for the Warpfield instead of Catalyst??

I could drop 1 stealer from the retinue I guess. I'm reluctant to ditch 5 gaunts...

Actually, Catalyst is not a bad idea at all. As Orchewer reminded me, Catalyst can be great for when your Stealers assault units in cover since you can't take Flesh Hooks with Feeder Tendrils, and Tendrils are better. You may have been thinking the same thing with your decision, I had just totally forgotten about that rather frequent scenario. Oh, and a Carnifex is I1, I2 with the upgrade I don't see noted in your list. Just for reference for when you insist on swinging before those Power Fists/Klaws.

However, if you were to find the extra 25 points... I'd probably do as you suggested, drop a Genestealer from somewhere. I'd keep the Gaunts, too.

Whilst catalyst is good, very good infact, I concur with the comments of one of my buddies that if he sees a flyrant, he will shoot anything he can get his hands on at it. It's half my synapse and the only thing that's going to make holes in his tanks efficiently. 2+ / 6+ is needed.
