So here's the deal. I'm going back to school ( ?) but that costs money () which basically equates to me not being able to purchase any more Warhammer stuffs. This is a bit of a pain because I was just about to start a Blood Ravens army. Anyways... I want to make a Chaos list since I have copious amounts of Chaos Marines laying around, but very little amount of vehicles. I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to help me create a list of varying point values (preferably 1000 to start then moving up to 1500). Now here's the kicker... I don't want to use cult marines that much, as I want this to be a purely 'undivided' army. I'll be writing a story that goes along with it. Lesser Daemons are okay since I have some models I could use and could work them into the fluff. Other than that... I would like it to be competitive, but not OTT or spamming things like Obliterators.

Here's a run down of the models I have available:

5 Terminators with 2x Lightning Claws
8 Terminators with pretty much anything else
40 or more Chaos Marines. I've 4x Autocannons, 1x Missile Launcher, some heavy bolters, and various assault weapons (though I tend to stay away from plasma... )
8 Possessed (I know no one likes these but I think they have a lot of potential)
5 Bikers (Same as above, )
Land Raider
18 Lesser Daemons
3 or 4 Sorcerers (don't ask)
Chaos Lord

I have so many ideas jumping around in my head and it's driving me insane. I can't seem to make a list that I like. If anyone could help me out with a 1k list to start, that would be great. Also despite me not having many funds, I understand I'll probably need to get a Rhino or 3 (which sucks because I just sold 2, haha) so that's not really a problem. Also generally any special weapons are okay as well, since they aren't too difficult to obtain/create.

My vision for the army is to be balanced but also competitive. I used to be so good at making lists but now I feel like I can't make a decent one. I really want to start painting but I need to know what to do! Heeelllpp!!

3 sqauds of marines
termys broke into two teams on in the land raider one dropped off via deep strike?
Sorceror + lord combo?
Bikers and minor daemons?

Should be 1500-1700 points right there.

I've sold so many armies. :(

So here's the first rendition of the list. It's lacking in anti tank (but can generally do pretty decent against most transports... though nothing fantastic). I'm looking more for wargear switches instead of different units, but meh. I don't expect to see exorbitant amounts of armour at 1000 points anyways...
... then I think of any Guard list with something with 14 armour... *cries*

The Lord has the MoK for now just as some added 'umph' in close combat. Though I'm thinking I may be able to switch some stuff around so that I can take some Icons and turn the Terminators into a proper Termicide unit. Thoughts?

Pat that askala, O-H-I hate this stupid state

Now i feel bad for buying those rhinos off you. You need some combi meltas in those termicides. I also think those bikers wont do much. Then my question is are you planning to stay in the rhinos and fire those autocannons?

Haha, it's okay. It's my own fault I can't decide on a freakin army to paint/play anyways

Well the idea is to drive the CSM up and hold objectives. They will sit in the Rhinos until an enemy comes near and then dismount + fire Bolt Pistols + assault = dangerous. The Terminators would just provide extra fire support where needed.

I want to use the bikes specifically because I want to prove that they're good! Especially Chaos Bikers because they have 2 attacks, with the possibility of giving them the Mark of Khorne for 3 attacks (4 on the Charge). I mean they're no Thunderwolf Cavalry, but hey... not all of us have excellent codecies . In any case, they are meant to wipe out smaller units... used more for specific strikes on things like Devastators or Heavy Weapon Teams.

I'd give the Lord dual Lightning Claws but I'd need to find 15 more points somewhere and I already need to find 20 points to give my Terminators Combi-Meltas. Unless perhaps I removed the Reaper Autocannons (which saddens me greatly since I think this is my favourite weapon in 40k).

I was thinking about giving the Champions in the units of CSM Power Weapons instead of Fists, which would give me enough points for the Meltas in the Terminator units. That would still mean I'd need to find points for Icons... Hmmm...

I think it looks nice, personally though I'd swap the - although tasty - autocannons for assault weapons; the bikes will be the opponents only immediate close-range threat and would receive a lot of firepower, whereas if you had rhino's moving beside em' they'd have reason to worry...

Oh, you could consider dropping a CSM squad for a large unit of lesser daemons, if you drop them off the bike squad they could start to chew through the core of the enemy...

Hope that helps, good luck!

Not a bad idea!

The idea is that the bikes will turbo boost on the first turn, giving them a 3+ cover save. That should lessen the impact of the enemies shooting phase. Having said that... if they concentrate their fire on the bikes, that means they aren't firing at the rest of my stuff... so it works both ways

I like the Daemon Bomb idea... I could take 15 or so Daemons and then give every other unit an Icon so I could place them wherever needs support (one reason why I really like Daemons).

I haven't played many games as of late, so would 2 units of Troops be enough for 1500 points? Well, actually 3 because Lesser Daemons count as troops... Hmmm.

Also the reason for the Autocannons is they can snipe most transports from the Rhino and then drive up to an objective and hold that. Either that or drive to the objective first... depending on who/what I'm playing.

...but I really do like the Daemon idea. I was going to use Chaos Hounds as my Daemons because they fit the theme of my army. *ponders this*

I think you could do something cool with the land raider and terminators with lightning claws

Land Raider 220pts

X5 Terminators with 5 LC in Land Raider 200pts

You can give the terminators Icon of Chaos Glory to deepstrike the lesser daemons if necessary. Also Mark of Slaanesh for the initiative would be awesome with lightning claws.
This would be an 18 inch threat range delivering 20 power weapon attacks with re-roll to wounds.

Also you could upgrade all the terminators to terminator champions and give them Mark of Korne. Now you'd have 30 power weapon attacks on the charge coming from five guys.

Actually I WILL be using those, but I'll be using them in my 2000 point list. It's such a brutal combo and I spent so much on the lightning claws anyways... I want to use them

Also I could squeeze out an extra 2" from disembarking. Either way it's probably a 2nd turn assault with 30 Lightning Claw attacks *drools*

Here's the updated and I think final 1.5k list.

O H I am in the Webway...

Chaos Bikers.... They are very lackluster. I doubt they will earn their points back 9/10 games. If not more...

I would be grabbing maybe a 3rd CSM squad. It would really help. Assault weapons in these squads (MELTAGUNS!) would be VERY helpful.

Lesser Daemons can be broken up into smaller squads to get the CSM in and just iconed off of a CSM squad that needs support.

Chosen or Havocs would also be fluffy for your theme, just an idea.

Looks like you're thinking along the same lines I am with the terminators - I'd love to know how they work out with your loadout.

I'm trying the 2x squads of 3 w/ Reaper Autocannons in each squad. I'm sorely lacking in long range and thought they might be a good idea. You've swapped to Combi-meltas for tank busting and are also thinking about a squad of lightning claws, which are the exact things I've been dithering on changing to myself.

I guess it boils down to do you think the heavy weapons are better on your Space Marine squads and your tank busting on your Termis, or do you prefer melta marines and heavy weapon Terminator support. Probably a question better suited for tactics I suppose. Guess I'll run a search...

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Observations on complex unit wound allocation: If you're feeling screwed, your opponent is probably doing it right.

You can only have 1 Reaper in the squad, unless you have a full unit (of 10), in which case you can have 2. Unless you meant something else?

I like the final list, looks quite good, playtest the bikes and see how you get along, the Lord in our P+M blog looks amazing though!

But yeah, 1-UP meant:

3 Terminators, 1 Reaper autocannon - 125pts

3 Terminators, 1 Reaper autocannon - 125pts

Ohh durr... yeah. That makes sense *feels stupid now*

Thanks for the complement! I've got tonnes of bits and time so I feel I can make this model amazing (and rightfully so, being the lord!)

I'm actually very satisfied with this list... I feel it will provide me with close, mid, and long range abilities. Though I'm wondering if I should split the Daemons into 2 squads just so I have a bit more flexibility.

I think its a matter of preference really, my thinking is I'd rather have one big kick-ass squad over two relatively flimsy ones...
