Hey hey all, so I like allot of other people have jumped on the band wagon this time around and have become filled with rage... a black rage that is... ok that was bad. Anyway at least I held of with just my regular space marines and Eldar and didn't go stir crazy about any of the other codices, although that's really cuz I was holding out for these guys. I have always loved the angels colors and theme and everything since my brother first got me into this game, I guess that might have been what pulled me to blood ravens.

Well the point of this here blog is two fold; 1st is to test the waters again and see if my ultramarine's didn't sell as well as I wanted because their main codex is older now and less people are crazy for them like they were closer to when it came out, 2nd is to test my paint scheme for my own army which will start their creation in a few weeks 2-3. So as some people may know I had another blog of me detailing my... slow... work on my ultramarine's, well don't fret this time around I plan on not having a bunch of crazy shenanigans happen to me and I plan on getting these guys done in a LOT less time.

So I have some pics right now of them but I will have to do a bit of running around before I can get them on the intertubes but they will be up today along with a little walk-through of how they got to where they are right now. The pics might not be the best because I just kind of took a pic of them in my painting area and with how the red is we will have to see how they turn out after a bit of light adjusting in GIMP. Of course anyone who likes the work on these guys when they are done can follow my main blog at the end of all this so they can see a full army of new blood angels.

I have been holding off a long time to really throw allot of money at an army to make them look good and this one will be it with forge world door for all rhino's and razorbacks and awesome resin bases for all the squads and allot of magnetized dudes for all them weapon changing goodness. So without going into things a bit too much here I will leave you with images of awesome and you will have to check this blog out later today to see the first pics of the 5 man jump pack-less assault squad, oh yea the Sergent has some of the new blood angles things on him to see what they look like.

Oh yea and if you want to see my Ultramarines blog here you go http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/261969.page#1470644

Ok sorry for the wait and me posting this without pics I just got excited and wanted to do something before I took off today.

So here is how I am painting the reds:

I primed them white first then I took one of my air brushes and sprayed them all blood red. That is what is in the first few pics.

Next I took Devlan mud(The best freaking wash ever made) and painted it in all the crevasse(ok really I painted it all over but thats what I should have done to save some time on the next step)

then I fixed everything up with more blood red to make sure the devlan mud wasn't places I didn't want it.

The next thing I will be doing later today will be to do the first highlight which will be Blazing orange and then a fine highlight of vomit brown.

Finnaly for the red I will give it a watered down wash of baal red.

Just so people know this is the red armor method that GW listed in their last white dwarf issue 363. if I like how this turns out I will be using it otherwise I might try to use a diff wash maybe add some red ink to make the baal red brighter or something. also you may notice that the helmets are not really painted and that's because they are going to be yellow because this is an assault squad.

After air brush:

Now is after wash of devlan and repainting blood red:

Either tonight or tomorrow I will post pics after the first highlight and if I have time the second highlight and wash. Well hope people like the poses and how they are looking so far, dont feel shy and post comments and critiques. See you all later and happy painting.

yea the rest are pretty plain because I didn't want to use much of my 1 box of death company that I have right now but I did still want to give them some flair so he has some stuff.

Now that's more like it! I know what you mean about the one box of bits... its hard to use them because you just want to horde them (if you're anything like me). Great start on them, using devlan mud really makes them a rich red color.

Generally, I rather like the shade of red you chose as your base. May I suggest you restrain any use of orange/yellow and use silverish metals and black/charcoal colors as instead when you look to paint your weapons and other "metal" bits on the model.

What exactly do you mean by this. The idea was to do yellow heads and the shields background was going to be yellow and black checkers and the swords I was thinking about doing the yellow and black stripes. Do you not like this color scheme in favor of the straight black swords and none yellow helmets?

Like how your red turned out. Like it a lot

But is it just me, or does the 'power sword waving guy' seem to have a horribly disjointed hip? Seriously, his leg looks like it's dislocated and is hanging about half a foot out of the joint

Keep in mind that Yellow helmets denote Fast Attack. These guys would need some jump packs or bikes or somesuch in order for that scheme to make sense.

well I don't think that rule applies anymore because their jump pack squads used to be fast attack but they are a troop choice now. As far as the color scheme they made up a while ago it was also related to how they were doing the codex then and now it has to have changed because what I am seeing people say is not where they are taken from but just people listing what the individual unit type wears otherwise the only thing with yellow helmets now would be like bikers and the dudes in land speeders... not that they were ever really painted with yellow helmets anyway so I think even their own logic doesn't really work.

From what I understand its basically Veteran squads like sternguard and vanguard have gold helmets, Assault and bike squads use yellow, Dev squads use blue, Apoth uses white and everyone else uses red pretty much. Although reading through stuff I did notice a few mistakes I made such as I was going to do the trim black but looks like I should do it red and the sergeant apparently should have black shoulder pads not red so I will make to changes later today when I get painting but I need to clean house like REALLY bad today so painting will be later.

*Edit* My bad the land speeder dudes do have yellow helmets but still I think that the assault troops should have yellow helmets jump packs or not because you would have painted them yellow in their old codex if they didn't have the jump packs. *Edit*

Jump pack squads have been troops for blood angels, at least since the PDF codex. Only VETERAN assault squads use yellow helmets, tactical and regular assault squads use the same color as the base for their helmets.

In the old codex, regular assault troops were painted with red helmets. It is still the same now. If you paint them with yellow helmets, in a strictly-adherent codex paintscheme, that makes them veteran assault squads.

Just clearing that up.

I've got the old codex (the one before the PDF), and they clearly have Yellow helmets. All Assault Marines, Bikers and Land Speeder crews are from the same companies usually (they train in all aspects of high-speed warfare- the new Dex contradicts this by saying bikers are thought of as weird by the other BA), and all share yellow helmets. Veteran Assault Squads used to have yellow-gold helmets, but as they've been replaced by the additions of Sternguard/Vanguard now, they'll use Gold helmets. Assault Marines though, as far back as the 1998 codex have had yellow helmets. I can't say about earlier, as I started in '98.

Tactical Marines use red, Honour Guard use gold (as they're also veterans), Devastators use blue.

Well by all means, I believe the previous codex overrules the lousy PDF we got. Go with that then. Better yet, go with the current codex because that is what people who want to buy pre-painted codex chapters are going to go by.

As far as I remember, Assault Marines have never ever had the same helmet colour as Tactical Marines, that's my only point. I don't know about the ancient 'Angels of Death' 'Dex, but in the old printed 'Dex, the PDF, and the new 'Dex Assault Marines have yellow helmets. Like I said, I've collected BA on and off since 1998-99, and I always remember Assault Marines having yellow-coloured helmets.

Trust me, I wish they didn't have them- I hate painting yellow

**UPDATE**

ok so my schedule has been such that I haven't been able to upload pics until now so this is just a big update.

So the first pics I have for you are the first highlight which is done with blazing orange.

These next few are with vomit brown highlight

SO I realize now that I forgot to get a pic of them after just the wash so the next pics are after I wash all the armor with my 50/50 mix of baal red and citadel red ink. The helmets are painted with Iyanden darksun , then washed twice with gryphonne sepia, after that I paint the helmet save for the darkest parts with a mix of Iyanden darksun + sunburst yellow about a 2 per 10 or 3 per 10 mix cuz the darksun REALLY changes the color with just the smallest amount, then I add bleachbone to mix for the first highlights and the last highlight is pure bleach bone.

So at this point I have painted everything that still needs to be painted black, during which I accidentally put a black smudge on two of their faces while doing their eyes which I will have to fix later.

So I should be able to get some more painting in tonight and tomorrow morning but this Saturday I get to go have have some oral surgery to get my wisdom teeth removed which I am REALLY not looking forward too because my dentist didnt even want to touch them becasue the roots have hooked on them aparantly so I get to have the actual oral surgeon work on them, OH boy.

Well I hope you guys like the pics so far, sorry they are not the best I just kind of threw a piece of paper behind them on my paint pallet and took the pic. When I get done I will have much better pics and next month when I actually start working on my own guys I will have better pics on my blog. Well hope to see lots of C&C.

OK so I reemerge AGAIN from hiding(I really need to stop doing that). So I finely over the last few weeks have had time to paint again and I have been working on numerous things one of which was this project. I am sorry to say that I kind of stopped taking pictures of this project as I went through it. One of the reasons it didn't get completed way back when was because I got really frustrated while trying to do stripes and checkers because I kept doing them stupid ways that I shouldn't have been. So I finely girted my teeth and finished them off with a little disdain. On the up side of things though I not only got these guys done but a 5 man death company as well. The death company I am not posting here because I am going to post it on my main blog, in fact I am going to stop doing these extra blogs when I start working on other things to sell and I am just changing the name of my main blog and everything is going to be on there. the link to that is here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/256647.page , if you want to follow me and watch me paint more things and possibly disappear for months on end again(which I am going to try my hardest not to do). Either way here is the angels in their complete form, although the pics don't NEARLY do them justice.

I apologize for the whitespace and whatnot these are the pics that are going on the Ebay page but without all the html boxes and whatnot that I will be using. If anyone is interested I will post the link the the auction tomorrow and I will have two other auctions going up then as well and I will post their links here and on my main blog. hope you all enjoy this and will leave some comments on them and check out my main blog for more pics and more auctions and whatnot.
