So I was thinking of doing an Imperial Guard Kill team and I wanted to make them look like commando's.

Was just wondering where I can get the IG heads with the berets on them? And also when I can get some shotguns?

Also, I need your guys opinion. They are going to be a Cadian kill team, should they have bare Catachan arms or regular Cadian arms?

Well Catachan command squads have sergent heads with berets and the old stormtroopers had berets you can find on ebay sometimes.

You can pick up Cadian veteran Shotgun kits oe n FW site. Heres thlink: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Imperial_Guard/Cadian_Shock_Troops/CADIAN-UPGRADE-PACK-HARDENED-VETERANS-WITH-SHOTGUNS.html

As for arms its up to you really. I could see the Catachan arms looking stange on a Cadian body IMO.

That helps a fair bit thanks But I need 10 beret'ed heads so do you know how many you get with the Catachan command squad?

Also, what how do you think I should convert some guns to look suitably stealthy and elite?

I couldn't give you a exact count but I think is 1-2 heads. So not very much you should try ebay if you are looking for specified bits.

As for making guns look more stealthy maybe add some silencers to the guns.

Catachan heads, cut off the upper most top of the head and put a small patch of greenstuff on the right half of the "flat-top". Now, take a patch which covers the whole flat-top and goes a tiny bit over the left side. Just push it down gently and voĆla, military berets.

I won't bother.

Lol you make it sound so easy, but I have no confidence in my modelling abilities whatsoever :(

Well, that's because it is easy. It's two blobs of greenstuff, one smaller than the other. Give it a try!

I won't bother.

Hm now I'm thinking about it it does sound pretty easy.. Well if I can't get any actual heads with berets, I think this will be the way to go. Now do you have any idea on how to convert awesome weapons? And also where I can find some shotguns?

How much of the catachan head should I chop off?

Sorry, totally zoned there...

OF COURSE!!

http://www.maxmini.eu/store/

Here you can find alot of conversion bits, including shotguns. And now that I think of it...

http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/commandos-heads-p-338.html?cPath=45_74

Baret-heads! Although both these sites have their base in Europe, so I'd imagine shipping would be a problem for you...

I won't bother.

Haha nice.
The beret heads are nice, I dunno if I should just buy them or if I should convert some.. Thoughts?

Try the conversion out, it's really as simple as it sounds and cheaper than shipping from Europe to Australia. =p

I won't bother.

Haha yeah but to get the heads in the first place I'll probably be buying them seperately from an online store... But they only cost £0.40 each. And I'll probably buy Space Marine scout shotguns from there as well. Will probably end up costing me $10 or so.

Give the beret conversion a shot first with at least one. You must have some sort of head lying around somewhere?

Yeah I have gak loads of heads lol. I'll find a suitable one somewhere, but I am a WHFB player so not much 40k stuff. I'll just raid my mates bits box haha.

I'll recommend the new Catachan Command, I have a similar Death Team and that box makes them look like they came right out of Predator. =p

Otherwise you can just try it out on any spare head you got lying around, it's all for practice and trial and error. Not to mention it would be awesome to see a Space Marine beatnik!

I won't bother.

Haha yeah he has a lot of scout heads lying around, might give it a go on that. Should i try it with blu tak first? I've never used greenstuff before so is it the same kind of thing to model with?

Not at all if you ask me, blutac is really soft while greenstuff has some hardness to it. A tip is to either keep some thin and well fitting plastic gloves around or if you don't have this, remember to use water on your fingers when you smooth out the stuff or it will be printed. Add some simple tools (popsicle stick, simple as that, cut and shave it as you wish in each en and you have a good multi-tool) and you are basically good to go.

I won't bother.

Hm yeah I will. I'll probably buy some green stuff tomorrow and start modelling some berets so I can get this kill team started. I wanna make different guns for them though, and I dunno how to lol.

Also, what should I use to push down on the green stuff?

Either a watered popsicle stick or watered gloved hand, don't wanna leave prints in the stuff, it really shows through the colour. As for the guns my best bet is to kitbash guns you keep in your bitz, like putting the stock-grip of a bolter on a sawn-off lasgun to make a Shotgun, I could probably make some schematics in photoshop to show you.

I won't bother.

If you could that would be really helpful mate, and much appreciated
So just sculpt the green stuff with a popsicle stick? Lol sorry if I sound like a noob, but I am haha.

You might want to cut the popsicle in any way that you would think helps the process. Like trimming it into a point and thinning it down a notch. =p

And here, did as good as I could with what I have:

The blue lines are where I would cut and the top gun is what the results would be. Remember to use a sharp modelling knife and be careful!

I won't bother.

Looking good so far.

Just for the moment though can you not use any arms that have open hands... similar to the one on top of the gun =/

Still need some for my diorama... That I WILL finish... one day.

Would like to see how that lasgun/bolter conversion would go down. Might have to play around with that later..

I have only 2 guys set aside. Still have the final two I have to work on. Don't think I have enough hands anyways.

When I get the box back I'll sort through what I need and then you can go nuts.

So I made up two of my kill team today and took some hurried pictures as I was getting ready to go to my girlfriends house so they aren't the best lol. But here goes. Also, first time using green stuff to model the berets, so go easy on the critisicm lol.

Unconvinced about the sight on the first guy. Needs a cleaner join onto the gun. Maybe a cable or two?

Berets aren't looking to shabby. Look a little flat in some of the pics but apart from that ace!

I quite like the GS berets. Very clean, proper shape, etc.

And I'm definitely digging the lasboltershotgun. The lascarbine looks a bit messy, but not bad for what you had to work with.
