Hi all !

To prevent hogging of future poetry competitions previous winners will not be allowed to enter the next competition. This is to allow equity and excellence to prosper.

Celebrating our last winner neil for the death Skulls!
Here is his poem

We da lootas an freebootaz knicking stuff from shivs to shootaz
eyeing up da umies tanks, so we can kitbash dem urm... thanks
kannon, pulsas, burnas, cutters. We da tinka Gork Mek nuttaz
all da time we finding fings, and makes da stuff dat bruvvers bring

Uvver orks dey fink where barmy, why not WAAAGH along wiv army
jus get yer ed tested yer Brainz, but Mad Doc Grimsnik sez wer sane
dey dont want the fings we uze, instead dey all grogged up wiv booze
an even Warboss, he can't see, but grabs our goodies when ready!

So into Dakka we do ride, our paro nature makes us hide,
behind the blue stuff on our hedz, painted on wiv grotling legs
Ere we go the the end is near, Warboss has his BIG GUN Cheer
whilst umies run an cower in fear. Looted Rhino,... Death Skulls ere!
wait... take da shot, double one, oh dear.


Introducing the second in our poetry series for December.

The deadline: Sunday 2nd January 8pm UK time.
I am doing this because I would like to encourage creativity and expression of this forgotten art.
I intend to make this at least a monthly thing and it is my intention to promote DakkaDakka.com in the process.
At some point all Poems will be archived onto a website, in the annals of great war poets.

Rules:

The Topic of this poem must be about the Ork Clan Goffs. I recommend reading some background info on them for inspration.
Submissions should have at least 3 paragraphs. Each Paragraph should have about 4 sentences.
You may submit more than one poem but only one will be chosen. Please dont spam me poems in personal message write the poems in this discussion thread.

This poem needs to be about the Goffs

Some background:

"Ork Kultur is driven wiv violence and the most ferocious of all the Ork Clans are the Goffs. Goffs prosper in combat, particular close quarters, be it against another race or simply in-fighting with other orks. They are belligerent scrappers, prefering to get close and personal and see their foe chopped up into squig sized food stuffs. Goffs are also naturally larger than the other Orks and have a tendency to produce more ard boyz and nobz. Being larger Goffs will also Bully other Klans, giving them a natural advantage in da "survival of da strongest. Many of the great Ork Warlords to have risen to leada Waaagh! Originated from the Goff Clan. "


One should therefore look to incorporate the background/fluff/imagination of the Goffs into the poems.
I recommend using your Codex or anything you can find about them to make a poem.
Wikipedia and the new Forgeworld Book on Orks would be helpful too.
Longer Poems are encouraged, as well rhymes and Orky language.

Finally you may write the poem in any context, for example, a story, first person, after a battle, and so forth.

Prize:

Although I would love to have runners up there will be only be one winner.
The winner shall a poem selected from myself and the wisdom of the moderators.

They winner choose from one item on the following list : GW Warhammer 40k Ork boyz/Lootas/Stormboys/Nobs/Grots/War Biker Mob/Up to 3 Mega Nobz/Any 40k Ork HQ choice on the GW website and not forgetting Badrukk.

This is not exchangeable for cash and I will not send the item unpainted. I aim to complete the model/s in 1-2 weeks.

I will then build and paint the model/s according to winners choice with some follow ups on my blog and the painting and modelling section of the Dakka Dakka website.

Therefore these competitions will not only serve the community in terms of inspiring creativity but painting and modelling tutorials will follow the prize.

Black & White

Weez da Goff's, bigga, meana, and louda than you lot!
Weez not afraid of silly umie's, theyz ratha hide in metal bawkes and not come ter play,
so we bust out da clawz and drag dem out anyway!

Goin' fast is fer cowards, hiding in da bushes is too,
Stealing from ur fellow Orks is low, and bein' rich is ovarated,
Dealin wif umies is bad, stealing from tha dead is even worse,
We Goffs is fightaz, we don't like being flashy, cowardly or ridin' round in wagonz,
we stare our enemiez down in tha face, before we chop 'em good. Hur hur.

Brilliant poem that really draws out the their strengths and lay lows the others, very orkish mentality - like it

Here's my entry. I wanted to go for something a bit different, so I decided to go for a Guardman describing an encounter with the Goffs:

I am nothing but a lowly Guardsman,
I have seen things beyond belief, things that defy reality
Yet the one memory that haunts me to this very day
Is the savage, barbarian ferocity of the Goffs.

Three days of unrelenting war-chants, three nights of holding them back
Huge brutes of iron and flesh hurl themselves towards us
Rip apart friends and comrades as if a child might unwrap a gift.
Blood and limbs litter the field, yet they continue…

The largest of the group, a Warboss, some 5 meters tall,
Clad in hissing, smoking armour, disembowels a battle tank
Fire and plasma impact uselessly off his armour
Dozens die to the big guns, yet they continue…

The commander dies, gutted by the Warboss,
More large brutes approach us, axes raised in unrelenting slaughter,
My friend is cut down, pure fear flooding his expression,
Yet in the Goff’s eyes, I see delight, happiness, possibly even passion.

The end, I lie in a puddle surrounded by the dead, hoping they will not notice one,
Surrounded by the armoured giants, I realise there is no escape,
Soon to die in a puddle, an unremembered, lowly Guardsman
While the screams of a thousand barbaric Goffs echoes through the valley.

Only took me about 15 mins, so I'm not that sure if it's any good. The other entries are very interesting

Thanks for entering I like the inclusion of the guardsmen and the feel of the battle.

If you ever want to add bits or edit thats fine as long as its before the deadline. About 3 weeks left so lots of time.
