Okay, Viktor von domm is making a steam-punk style zeppelin, and I have offered to make the rules for it. I t will most likely be changed a lot over the next few weeks.
so here goes:
points- 300pts
AV 12/12/12
can transport multiple units.
heavy support
transports up to 50 25mm bases. (10 in the cabin, 30 on top platform, 10 in the bridge)
flyer
can only move 2D6 inches per turn.
weapons- tesla-cannon, rear-mounted multi-laser, 2 pintle-mounted heavy stubbers
tesla-cannon: S- AP2 plasma Range 72"
beam- select a point on the board up to 72" away. Any units within 1" either way of the line suffer the above hit using the below special rule.
the beam gradually gains energy as it travels- measure the distance between each unit and the telsa-cannon. Use the following table to see what strength it is:
up to 24"- S6 up to 48"- S8 up to 72"- S10
30 additional models may fire from the roof of the zeppelin.
ignores crew stunned/shaken.
when it is wrecked, the zeppelin will deflate. Any models within 3D6" of the zeppelin count as being in difficult terrain. Mark out this area. For the remainder of the game, that area counts as difficult terrain and confers a 6+ cover save.
when it is destroyed, the shrapnel is flung out far away from the zeppelin. The explosion will take place in D3 turns. When it happens, the radius is 3D6 and it ignores cover (unless the squad is under a roof).
Vox-array: If a CCS or PCS is in the bridge, it automatically doubles the range of all orders, and all vox-cast equipped squads automatically hear the order.
access points- the skiff. One squad at a time (11 models max.) can drop onto the battlefield.
The skiff, when deployed, uses the following profile:
open topped, AV 12/12/12, open-topped (for transport purposes only)
DS, immobile, innertial guidance system.[/b]

i think the most parts is pretty sound, i think someone with more rules knowledge than me should answer that call tho...
its a bit hurting to read so mach rulesstuff about that beauty being a flat ballon lying on the ground ...*sob, snieef...*
otherwise cool thought you put into it. do you think a command post is something ruleswise to be important enough to get notice?
there will be a future sideboatlike mini zeppelin and also a heavy ballon so these would need rules later too...
by the way the hull and deck of the upperdeck have steelplating...
and i want to add if all goes well a tesla (plasma rules?) heavy weapon on the front of the deck...

Given that sort of transport capacity (and I assume size to match) to really ought to be a superheavy, up the cost give it a few structure points, and the normal superheavy catastrophic damage rules cover it exploding nicely.

Seems kinda underpriced, as I read further into it, you've got 40 people ontop shooting along with 3 heavy weapons.
Might wanna really raise the price and give it some actual armor.

Tesla Cannon is cool
I think this would be more priced around 260, cus you gotta remember, it's open topped. That makes it a whole lot weaker.
Or is there something in the apoc rulebook about Super-Heavies not being effected by open-topped?

the vox array sound ^^ very cool...
the skiffs should more count as droppods as they are fully armored and fully closed...maybe they get some weapons like heavy stubbers or something...currently i have done only one door two are planned on each and two skiffs for now alltogether...
should i build them as small versions of a zeppelin or rather as droppods with an alternate design? then surley without weapons...
or:
we could use the skiffs/droppodstyle and use the "strawmethode" of deployment both... for jumptroops to secure and puncture an areal the pods and the firemen methode via a pipe that holds retractable poles to slide down on as normal and less aggressive way of massive deployment...

your choice- what would be the most fluffy yet practical way of landing? mini-zeppelins sound good, but more as accompanying ships, rather than a method of deployment.
straw sounds cool- how about a fireman's pole down the middle of the see-through tubes to stop them getting shot?

I don't understand the skiff. It can take units from the Zeppelin and deep strike them onto the board?
Also, drop the whole structure point thing, or make this only usable in Apoc. Structure points and super-heavies have no place in standard 40k.

jep, the skiffs will be ONE way of deployment...deepstriking IGs is that possible ruleswise?
and the seethrough straw is currently in planning, materials i do have and will post shots for it in the coming days, but the fireman pole is the thing behind it ideed!
when structure points are droped then does this make the airship only a terrain piece?

Yes, it most likely would.
Perhaps a better solution is to give it some special rule about having very few weak points and giving it a 3+ invul save against glance/penetrate.
