So I decided to play Just Dave's Chaos Fandex, and my brother obliged me with a test game.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/340878.page My favorite part of this fandex (for those of you who are going to wait before looking through it, or won't at all) is that it has a warband option for all of the legions in the fluff. Much the same as most of the big legions in the loyalists have their own special chars or codices, each chaos army must take a warband option for different bonuses.
The bonuses for a Night Lords warband, which is my obvious choice, are as such;
CSM squads of 5 get their aspiring champ for free.
Raptors are troops
for 30 points, upgrade a lord, champ, or
DP into the ShadowLord- all enemies within 12" roll 3
d6 and take the highest for morale, instead of the normal 2.

LandRaider Redeemer
Predator w/ Lascannons
Mission is 2 Objectives, Deployment is Pitched Battle.
He goes first.
His objective goes into a ruined building along with two lascannon combat squads. His rhinos deploy to the left of the building in a line shielding his bikes. The land raider and predator deploy to the right of the building.
I deploy with my objective in another building with the 5 man
csm squad sitting inside, ready to go to ground. each rhino is on either side, screening two squads of raptors and the
DP. farther to the right is a predator behind cover, raptors half in cover half out, and the land raider with noise marines on the far side. I try and fail to steal after he infiltrates the remaining lascannon squad into some cover a few inches past his deployment.
Sicarius Turn 1 His two dreadnoughts drop in, one in front of my land raider, and one in the middle in front of one of the rhinos.
Thankfully for me, his redeemer immobilizes itself on a piece of terrain, sitting about even with the infiltrated squad.
He misses my land raider, but immobilizes the rhino.
His lascannons do nothing through a combination of cover and missing.
Night Lords Turn 1 Everyone moves up. the 2 melta raptor squad covers the center dread while the
LR pivots to take on it's dreadnought. The
LC raptors move up with the
DP, keeping a melta in range of the drop pod in case they want to shoot it. The lord and remaining squad jump over cover (taking one wound, but lord makes his invuln save) and in front of the three rhinos. Shooting whiffs the rhinos, blows up the dread from raptors (killing one), Immobilizes the
LR dreadnought, Lashes the infiltrated squad 10 inches towards the prince / raptors, and since they were in prince's charge range, the other raptors
WD the drop pod with a melta shot.
In assaults the raptors who assaulted all the rhinos manage ONE stunned result on the center rhino. The raptors also wreck the pod (with an imm result) and the prince slaughters all the tacticals.
Sicarius Turn 2 His sternguard come in.
He places it in between his land raider / pred and my raptors, and the sternguard / sicarius come out
He then disembarks the stunned squad, and moves the outer two rhinos to the sides to disembark into firing positions. the bikes move up as well.
His dreadnought whiffs terribly.
Combined weight of fire kills all the raptors at the rhinos except for the Lord and the Aspiring Champion. Good thing the lord is fearless!
His sternguard rapid fire their ap3, killing 8 and killing 2 of themselves. Ironically, he wanted to roll his sergeant seperately, and he overheated and killed himself. They pass morale.
His bikes just barely manage to assault my lord / fist. I kill 2 (4 wounds) and take none, he gets an additional wound from No Retreat! but sticks in combat. gak. So my hurty
HQ is stuck in
CC on my turn when there are 5 tasty targets right there D:
Night Lords Turn 2 I shuffle things around for assaults. The Land raider moved around the dread so the noise marines could get out, and then it takes rear shots on the dread (doing nothing) The prince assaults the redeemer, the two man raptors get the pred, and the 9 man squad shoots / assaults cato and company, killing one with a melta before going in.
The noise marines killed all but the sergeant of the melta squad, then assaulted him, killing him easily. The lord finishes the last attack bike.
The daemon prince wrecks the redeemer, whilst the raptors whiff the pred.
Cato kills one raptor, whom kill 4 sternguard before they can hit. the remaining two don't wound, and the powerfist backhands cato. I win combat by 6, and they flee. I catch them thanks to the reroll from No Mercy! and they die to their 6 armor saves.
Sicarius Turn 3 So he's quickly running low on things to be effective. He shuffles rhinos about quickly after embarking his remaining squads. His immobilized dread
WD's the predator, which is all he can see now.
The two lascannons fire at the lord / champ duo, killing both of them (rolled a 3 for invuln :( )
after all his storm bolter shots and such, he only drops one noise marine (including flamers and guys inside transports) His pred only pops one of the two raptors on him.
Night Lords Turn 3 The prince and mostly full raptor squad each go after a full rhino. The meltaguns only
wd theirs. The
LR pivots to get full shots on the dread, and the rhino refuses to repair a third time (rolling a 5 every turn) The noise marines dont move so that they may use their heavy fire option on one of the
LC squads. And in a slew of bad rolling, (for him) they kill all 5. The dreadnought also explodes.
So the
DP needs 4+ to hit, and rolls 5 6's... fancy that...
His rolling is just going terribly, the explosion kills 3 of his men inside, but fails to wound the three of mine that were in range.
The other rhino also explodes, killing one of mine and one of his. He passes all pinning checks. I fail to scratch the predator
Sicarius Turn 4 Pretty much all of his shooting whiffs save for the lascannon squad, which wounds the
dp twice (once with bolters, once with lascannon) and the flamer squad, which kills the single raptor. The melta squad misses all of it's shooting, and resigns itself to death.
Night Lords Turn 4 Raptors move into his ruined building, or at least close enough to assault. The prince lashes the
LC squad out of cover, and they get pinned with a 12. My other rhino repairs itself. Fat lotta good he'll do me now.
The noise marines wipe off the meltas, and the land raider kills one of the two remaining flamer squad, leaving the sergeant by his lonesome. He passes morale with a 3, loving this chance to die for the emperor, apparently.
The raptors assault the lascannon squad, trading a wound before the powerfist slaps another marine silly. He passes morale, luckily enough.
Sicarius Turn 5 The pred kills my
dp. 3 storm bolters combined (two drop pods and rhino) manage to kill another noise marine.
The combat sees only one more of his marines die, staying stubborn.
Night Lords Turn 5 Time for cleanup, I suppose...
Noise marines finish the last sergeant on the table, while the land raider wrecks the predator.
In the melee, that lascannon is really showing his stuff. he dodges the attacks, clubs a raptor in the head with his lascannon, and then dodges the incoming fist attack (i got two hits, but rolled a one, so he was still alive) for a drawn combat. God damn.
Does the game continue? I roll for a 5, so yes.
Sicarius Turn 6 All he has left are pods to shoot at my noise marines. They manage to kill another one.
The lascannoneer finally dies, and we call the game.
Win with two objectives for the Lords of the Night,
Ave Dominus Nox! He definitely found out the hard way that those sternguard are way too expensive for only that one round of shooting. Also, infiltrating kinda hurt him as well, as he only got one shot off before I killed that squad.
All in all though, I'm really happy with how this codex performs, even if I didn't even use all the nifty stuff like the doomsiren on my lord, or even really take advantage of the ShadowLord / Dirge Casters that I took.
Take a look at that codex, it's really well written and thought out, and is a really quite nice fit.
