Now this is an interesting one.  For a start, I'm only painting two models in the whole army (there were two I've been wanting to paint for a while, so I kept them for myself), with the rest of it parcelled out between six or seven freelancers.

It's also interesting because the client has given us no brief except "do what you think looks cool".  So I've been able to give the contributing painters a real chance to go wild to showcase their ability (up to a limit, as not all the models are being painted to the highest quality) and imagination.  The key unifying points are the bases and the black primer coat, but otherwise I'm posting up images as units and models are finished to that others working on their own projects can adapt and incorporate the ideas and techniques of other freelancers in their work.

And here's the first regiment, by Freelancer Martyn!

Martyn was actually one of the very first freelancers to sign up with me, but then went off to train as a firefighter.  He's now been brought back into the fold and this is his first proper project for us.  I think he's done us proud, painting to Level 2 with an excellent "smouldering magma" effect on the shields and banner to unify the regiment.

Martyn tells me:

"The smoldering flame was quite simple to achieve actually, its red gore stippled over black base, then blood red and then blazing orange stippled over that.  then its given a baal red wash making the wash heavier at the bottom so its slightly orangier on the top and darker at the bottom.  then i tidy up a little bit with black."

One of the two I wanted to paint myself was Sigvald the Magnificent. I made a start on him today. Not quite done, but here he is so far:

I wanted to do something distinctly different from the common "shiny gold" look or SENMM effect. As the army as a whole is Chaos Undivided, I decided that he would dress the part and went for the shiny black look instead. Some of the highlights here still need tidying up, of course, and a lot of the details are awaiting my full attention.

And the orange thing on his sword? Well, a lot of people paint it as part of the pommel, but I had a good look and I reckon it's a serpentine familiar, so that's how I'm painting it. I haven't quite decided how it will look when it's done. Probably like a milk snake, but possibly a red rat snake or corn snake...

And the Khorne Lord, by Yours Truly (which isn't, actually, quite finished):

All that remains is for me to finish the Khorne Lord and photograph Sigvald (who's all done) and the job's done.

Great take on Sigwald, I like the muted approach better than the usual gold plated one. The last picture might reveal too much about the nature of Slaanesh though

I've always seen them painted as chainmail panties, but that never struck me as appropriate for Slaanesh, so Sigvald gets silk and lace.

Absolutely loving this so far! And I am quite fond of that take on Sigvald as well. The last picture definitely gave me a good laugh. Looking forward to hopefully seeing some more Slaanesh stuff?

On a boat, Trying not to die.

Whoa. Didn't realize that Siggy boy wasn't wearing any pants!

Anyway, it looks great. The shield could use a bit more paint to make it "pop", but it's a small gripe.
