Greetings,

Years ago I was a fairly decent 40k player, finishing in the top 10 of the UK GT final (so first through the heats). I love gaming but the scene here in Finland got so math-hammery and non inspirational in minis that I stopped going to tournaments. I am moving to SFO and have heard so much good about Bay Area gaming, that I want to get back into playing. I really miss it too. Besides, the Army deserves some action.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/233990.page

What I've always admired is armies that are a little different, are not copy pasted from others, have a lot of personality and variation and do well in large part because of the player. I also really like forces that have combat modifiers, abilities and tactics that stem from certain heroes making others around them better and more efficient or units that need to be used together. I've only managed a dozen games of 5th edition when it came out though, so I would really appreciate if you'd help me fine tune this lot into match shape and offer some tactical tips. (how would you set up, what lists will be most trouble, least trouble, etc)

The Grey Knights look like an awesome mid-range army, and a lot of 5th seem to reward that type of forces. They are active on each of the game play phases, another "must" for me when choosing what to play with. I don't have so many Grey Knights though, and won't make more than ten, as my process of creating a marine miniature is just so time consuming. Additionally I want them to look like and rock like Marines should. So God Warriors amongst men. The Grey Knight codex is a fantastic premise for that.

Hi migs... nice army can't wait to see all those interesting minitaures in your modeling blog

As your army is miniture driven and there are few chances you will rip them apart and build them new... my finetuning optinons will be quite difficult... but I've only got some minor suggestions as I'm not to familiar with how the new codex plays...

as for my suggestions:

1.1: give the pdf and dune twist squad bolters... (maybe you could model some powercellmodifications and some wires to the existing lasguns so the count as overcharged i.e. bolters, think of hotshot power packs from the necromunda rules)
-this should make them equivalent to ig veterans
1.2: give the 3 plasmagunners carapace armor... helps for "get hot" and is quite cheap for 4pts each (agiain this might be a bit difficult as these your models are already finished and doing so might destroy the overall feel of this squad)

2: maybe add a yokaero proxi or two to every squad (not sure about which was the better choice but there was a calculation somwhere here on dakka)

I'm not sure about the following... probably depends on your close/ranged combat preferences
3: drop the venerable for a second psyfle dread ( this should also bring the points for my first two suggestions)

I hope these suggestions are at least a bit constructive

cheers konf

I love it!

Even though some (*cough*Kanluwen*cough*) can't stand seeing 'regular' Marines being used in a Counts As army, I have no problem with it!

The GK Codex remains the best way to get Marines and 'regular' Humans together in a list, and also makes the Marines stand out and become 'properly bad ass' as well.

I like the list a lot, I would try to add more rifledreds if you can, as well as add in some crusaders or warriors to soak up hits on those DCA units.

Thanks guys.

Konf: I agree, It's a challenge - I may want to use the IG list sometimes, so I am a tad stuck with the lasguns, or mix of things that would in game terms be a pistol and ccw.

Alpharius: Yes, the dec is winning the lottery for projects like the Legion.

Sageheart: Crusaders do sound very tempting, also modeling wise. I think I'll switch around to have some... The rifledreads look absolutely awesome on paper, but building another cyclops is a little intimidating. This may change when I get in to testing them and learn to see just how good it is for the pts.

I was thinking of even doing Diaromas for the dreds, it doesn't have to be a dred, but maybe something else as long as it is the right height. You could do a sentinel on a dred base with some guardsmen running around its feet. Since I personally fine the rifle platform of the rifledred kinda dull.

A vindicare also might be a good investment since it does offer a great many modeling opportunities and they are very good for their points.

I custom buit a Mechanicus construct to rep the rifleman.

So the Vindicare is really good? Do people mainly use it to turbo penetrate vehicles? Or to kill of character/sgts/weapons?

I am drawn for the modeling opportunities swell as spending so many points on just one model to paint and model
