To save the News & Rumours thread, here's a new place to discuss the problems some people have with Mantic.

I have two problems with Mantic: what they don't change, and what they do change.

What they don't change is the concepts. They might look different, but their "iron" dwarves are still "iron" dwarves, their male elves are still male elves, their steampunk ratmen are still steampunk ratmen, and so on. As someone who has no interest in the armies GW currently deigns to support, Mantic's as useless as another Space Marine Dreadnought. I want plastics manufacturers to go outside those concepts, because only then is there any hope that they'll make something I actually want to buy, if only by pure chance.

What they do change is the aesthetics, and often for the worse. With the exception of the undead, I consider the body shape of their models to be intolerably ugly. The elves look malnourished instead of athletic, the orcs look like dopey simians instead of cunning monsters, and the dwarves have gone well past "heroic" scaling and into parody. Even their humans do not have the thighs of a footslogger, only made worse by the top-heavy armour and form-fitting jackboots.

Changing the concepts does not mean abandoning cross-over sales from GW customers, and it would remove any perceived need to change the aesthetics purely to set themselves apart. There are plentiful concepts that would still sell to GW customers, sometimes pulling double or triple duty, like my oft cited centaurs. Centaurs designed as a Wild Rider analogue would fit in perfectly with existing GW armies, Mantic wood elf armies, and provide plastic support for a race with a well established cultural presence. Instead we've got Elf spearmen who can only fit in to Mantic elf armies because they are sufficiently different to not fit in with GW elves, but sufficiently similar to obviously be supposed to be the same race.

I dont want to discuss taste here, what I dislike is people who call Mantic products rip-offs of GW products, I like their sthetic options in all ranges you cited, and i want them to stay in that concept, so I am one of their clients, as lots of other people around.

I dont want to sound harsh, but if you dislike their concepts and bash almost all they have done (with the only exception of undead), why do you bother? You just dislike the company, and wish it was another one, with a different propost...

By me? I love Mantic elves over GW elves, always, and never had encounterd better ones, im completely owned by Mantic Dwarfs, their body shape fits perfectly in what I wanted, and i think GW is awfull. Their orcs are very nice, and GW are too, i dont see the gorilla thing in the Mantic orcs, but i always seemed LoTR orcs as hilarious (except for the Urk-Hai), because the lack of size and muscles.

So, i like their products and buy it. If you dont like it, just dont buy it. Its why we call free market...

Taste is subjective.

Personally I think the Mantic Dwarves beat the living daylights out of the GW Dwarves... and if they were real, they really would beat the living daylights out of them. Mantic Dwarves look strong and muscular, GW Dwarves look like a bunch of couch potatoes in comparison.

But hey, if couch potatoes suit your aesthetic, be my guest and buy GW.

CHAOS! PANIC! DISORDER!
My job here is done.

Just because I don't like their product does not mean they're not an interesting subject of discussion. I also don't like NDAA 2012 Section 1021, but that doesn't mean I don't like talking about it.

My ideal for dwarves is not GW, it is D&D. Something like this

...i dont see the gorilla thing in the Mantic orcs...

I didn't say gorilla, I said simian. The low cranium and prominent upper jaw are traits they have in common with chimpanzees.
