Hello Dakka!

Game Empire in Pasadena and Game Empire in San Diego are running a new long-format GW league, the Warhammer Masters Series. The Southern Conference leagues for both 40k and WHFB are already underway in San Diego, and registration is open for the Northern Conference is open now for both 40k and WHFB!

The Northern Conference leagues run from March 1 through June 24, with a final head-to-head showdown between the Northern and Southern Conference on July 15!

The winner of the Series final in July walks away with the title of Warhammer Masters Series Champion, a tall, shiny trophy, and $500 cash! And there's additional prizes for Best Painted army and Best Sportsman!

The full rules for the Northern Division's Warhammer Fantasy Series are up now on the Game Empire Pasadena forums, and can be found here:

http://gameempirepasadena.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=52

The 40k rules will be up in the same place in about a day or so.

Little old yours truly is overseeing the whole shebang. I am also running the 40k half of the series personally, breathing down the necks of the finalists in the fancy-dancer upstairs showcase area of the new Game Empire Pasadena (and we even have Ismael on deck so that our live stream of the final rounds will be in both English and Spanish! ), and overseeing Davis in running the WHFB side, so if you have any questions or want to sign up, let me know here or on the store forums, or PM me, or give a call to the store... I'm pretty easy to get a hold of!

Sounds like fun, do we have ti start a fresh army for this? I just finished up my Dark Eldar for use in the Broadside Bash last week, and would love to use them.

I'm absolutely in. This sounds amazing, as always Travis, if you need administrative help with the league (since this sounds pretty involved) let me know what I can do.

Can't wait.

The only problem I see is you don't have a Conference named Russ. How can you have Magnus without Russ?

Russ could be on the northern side?

I was debating naming all the Northern Conference divisions after Street Sharks characters, but I overruled myself in the interest of the theme over a joke that Dok hates!

The sucky thing about starting march 1st is that I will be driving to the BAO. Are the rules for pasadena going to be the same as the rules for San Diego?

I amended the schedule today to reflect the BAO. There's an extra week of signups and the Series meetings are on the weekend following BAO.

I'm trying to accommodate as many players as possible, so I shifted the initial dates a bit to help do so.

The rules for the Northern Conference are just about finished, they should be up tonight in the GE Pasadena forums; I'll announce it here when it's done. The general format is the same as the Southern Conference, but there are some differences in the minutia. Mostly that we'll be playing a Savage Worlds / 3rd edition / Dystopian Wars hybrid up here, and I think they're playing boring 5th ed down there!

Soooo... Forgeworld Apoc 2e units can be used? Or am I supposed to bring my Prussian robot to counts as a Contemptor dread? I hope a lurkers head just exploded.

One quick serious edit. I noticed the final game for fantasy is June 24. Is the the same for 40k? I ask because I will be in Austin for Wargamescon that weekend, i think Blackmoor will be too. If it is I will still play in the league but you can give my spot to someone else should I win our conference. Just curious, I am pretty amped about this idea.

Whoops! I just saw the Wargames Con hiccup, thanks OW!

It actually works out perfectly, I shifted the starting dates a bit to accommodate BAO, so I just shifted the ending dates a bit to do the same for Wargames Con. It all comes out in the wash; WMS keeps the same schedule, just shifted a week forward.

Fingers crossed nothing else is going on on any of the dates I've got posted!

Forget lurkers, my head just exploded from the awesomeness that is this series. Congrats on putting together, what looks like could be, the best 40k gaming series I have seen in a LONG time.

I posted a question about cover on the GEP boards. Should I reiterate it here or is that board going to be the primary source of info for the series?

I was planning on being at a tournament at Thou Shalt Game in Temecula on the 11th.

After 3 years of tournament Purgatory I am like a kid in a candy store.

So... you're coming to my tournament on the 10th, right??

Seriously though, I would like everyone to be there on the 11th for the meeting, but the reality of the world simply won't permit. As long as I see everyone sometime around the start date so I can get information out and so on, it's fine.

I haven't decided on a time yet, probably going to be noonish and take about an hour or so, though.

Hey everyone, just a quick note that I've officially amended the schedule and cleaned up some areas of the terrain rules in particular based on some conversations I've had with players.

http://gameempirepasadena.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=1084

Thanks for all the feedback.

For the thread: The question was raised as to how to handle a new codex release at some point during the series. I'm not sure, but the options range from immediate changeover to no change until the series is finished. While I like the idea of an old, herpy army getting a leg up, I'm not a fan of inconsistencies and lack of understanding potentially skewing results. The moderated approach would be to allow the prospective new book in to the mix after a vetting period and possibly creating a series FAQ for it in the inevitable absence of an official GW faq. Thoughts?

And on a tangential point... is it just me or is GW's release schedule of the last few months been full of fail? Thunderterriers and Tervigons are spiff and all, but I get the feeling that everyone who really wanted them has already made a conversion.

Thanks for all the leg work Dis.

I agree about the releases, at the least they could have thrown the Harpy in there. I would have preferred the Necron 2nd wave seeing as there is NO way I am going to scratch build or kit bash Night/Doomscythes.

I think we should allow a new codex, once we (you ) have made a relevant FAQ.

Yeah, most likely what I'll end up going with. I will, of course, take input from all series players on the contents of such a potential FAQ prior to making final decisions.

No unilateral judgments here!

That is correct. You're stuck with your codex for the duration, but can use any list you want from game to game, including playoff games. In the final showdown games, players must bring one list only.
