I've been wanting to scratchbuild something for a while, but I always give up long before it gets to cutting any plasticard.
After looking at the centaur and deciding the forgeworld price was far more than i was willing to pay, I decided it looks like a simple enough model to scratchbuild, so I got a template and made a start.

I decided to enclose the driver area and Im going to green stuff a top on as its easier to get the lines I was planning.
I was thinking of only making a small section of track and instamolding it, seems the easiest way to go.

What you think so far

Erm, ill have to measure it and check. Ive got 3 different thickness on there.
Did some more work on it tonight. The exterior detail went better than i thought. The only problem is you learn along the way, so the second side always looks better than the first.
Im waiting for the greenstuff tracks to dry to see how they come out.

with a russ as reference.

I got one of my parts orders, so did some more work on the cetaur. Despite my calculations, i somehow ended up two track links short.
Its made from a combination of 2mm, 1mm and i beleive its 1/4mm plasticard.

The third image shows a couple of parts from my next project. Waiting for the next supply drop before that can start in earnest

This is very inspiring work and it looks like that you are getting ready build a super heavy tank . Please post more of your future work I would love to see it .

The only poorly painted miniature is the one that is not painted.

So the foamboard came today, so the superstructure is under way. Still waiting for a delivery from imperial armoury for the details though

wide enough for a leman russ in the hold.

It was originally going to be long enough for 2 tanks and forsaking the gun for a front ramp. I decided that the longer tracks could be a pain, so its still big enough for a single tank and I plan on putting a bombard cannon in the front.

I never liked the idea of all the tedious riveting following your thread, but you do fall into a bizarre therapeutic riveting rythym

dave said it already but you have alone found out the true meaning of rivet- zen!!! yes! it is a strong thing to happen to you all of a sudden... but once you start it gets you line, hook and sinker...

the leviathan is looking very good! did i overread as to how you rivetted the plates? looks as if you embossed them? very neat work if i say so myself^^

now i am really looking forward to see you make some scratchbuilt treads... something i might need to nick then ^^

good luck with the further work on that behemoth of a tank!

cheers, vik

Thanks guys. Much better than the comments I at home, which mostly consist of, "where exacty do you plan on putting that" and "didnt you say you had an assignment to do".

The large plates are all embossed, theyre not quite as neat as they look, but the ridiculous scale of the the thing seems to hide it.
Do i really have to scratch build the tracks, I was planning on buying them. I was thinking these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wargames-40K-Large-Resin-Tank-Tracks-Imperator-Pattern-/251057068476?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item3a742ad9bc
If i remember rightly, i think the seller is around here somewhere.

true...tho i can´t say who it is but i have seen his work here too... and yeah i think without the right gear you could end up insane by making the treads all by yourself... which does happen^^

well... my wife sometimes complains too about me using up all available shelf place and even the bigger tables at home^^ devotion to hobby is nothing to be taken lightly

Very nice work. Now you just need guns. Lots of guns.

I keep toying with the idea of making articulated tracks, but I'm not sure I need any extra complication. I've got 4 assignments due before download festival and an exam 2 days after, I guess I do work better under pressure.

Speaking of guns, I was going to have a bombard in the front and the 3 twin lascannons on each side, but I'm not sure about the turret on top, I'm not sure it looks right. What do people think about it.
