Hey guys,
I was at the roleplay-convention in cologne last weekend and I was able to pick up some of the new crystal tech terrain. I figured I might as well do a quick review, since this stuff can be used as necron terrain. So here we go ... I picked up one of each, the obelisk as well as the energetic vault. Both are made of a rather sturdy resin, which is pretty easy to work with.
Lets start with the Energetic Vault. The box:
The contents:
Included are 7 parts! The base, 4 "legs", the central crystal column, as well as a top plate.
All in all, this is kit is ridiculously easy to put together and the flash/mold lines were no issue at all. The crystal column had very minor flash - nothing that cant be cleaned with an exacto knife. The worst of the mold lines can be seen here:
Since its all straight edges, it can easily be filed down! I use nail files for the basic filing, and modelling files for the grooves. Two of the "legs" had no mold lines at all, cleaning up the other two took about 5 minutes. Result:
And here is a quick mock-up picture. Its not glued, hence the gap between the right leg and the top plate, I will adjust that once I actually put the thing together.
Number two: Obelisk
This piece consists of three parts only. A base plate (same size as the vault base, but with crystals attached) and the two double pegs, which kinda interlock and then sit on the base.
No flash at all on the base, and a bit on the "legs":
The worst part can be seen in the second picture, which is extra material at the bottom of the legs. It can be removed with the exacto knife though, so no issue at all.
Everything else can be filed with no problem at all, its all straight edges again.
Mock-up:
Price for each kit is 17,50€ or both for 30€. To be honest, I think the price is alright for what Im getting. It took me just about 10-15 minutes to clean them up and basically put them together. Obviously, these arent
TLOS-blocking terrain pieces, but they can really add some flavor to your Necron army on the table. The bases are 120mm, so theyre a wee-bit big to act as objective counters. Should be easy enough to add magnets in order to be able to pull them apart for transport as well.
I forgot to take pictures with minis, but if anyone is interested, I wouldnt mind supplying some.
