Counter Assault on Saios: The Imperium Strikes Back

Welcome to battle 2 of Counter Assault on Saios!
If you are interested in seeing the other battles that will shape the Petod system then go check out the master link list thread;
Counter Assault on Saios: The Search for the Elendil Thrakul

However, if you've already seen that, or just want to watch a lot of deepstrikers pour down amidst a firestorm onto some grim defenders - then just keep reading.

The Opening Fluff
Spoiler:

Her cup of lukewarm recaff forgotten in her hand, Farseer Diyneer gazed implacably at the runes she had thrown. Nothing new could be gleaned from the way they had fallen. Her visions had likewise failed her, too many strands, too many forces, too many outcomes… There had to be something she could do as time was running out. Almost ten years ago the forces of the great evil had attacked and subjugated Saios. The invading force had crushed the Imperial defenses in the span of week. Despite promises of future aid from her Tau allies, none had been forthcoming. It was maddening that the young race had even acted confused by her requests. It didn't surprise her that all of them she had worked with had died by now, but surely they should have kept some records. Four hundred years wasn't that long!

She needed new allies, but had been rebuffed at every turn.

The Eladrith Ynneas and the Orks were already upon the planet witht he Chaos forces. She had dispatched the servants of the laughing god to open lines of communication with her cousins from Commoragh but so far her entreaties had fallen on deaf ears. She was not sure what they had been promised by the Chaos Warlord, but for now it held them loyal. Meanwhile the greenskins that she had so carefully manipulated in the past were also of no use. With the arrival of the Freebooter armada a new warboss had arisen and he was strong enough to maintain discipline and shrewd enough to resist her tricks. Scattered skirmishes with the chaos forces were quickly put down and now with the arrival of the mon’keigh fleets they would have a new outlet for their aggression.

Perhaps she could entreat with the mon’keigh. For now she would watch and bide her time waiting for an opportunity…

================================================================

Waiting in his throne room the demon prince smiled to himself, blisters and pustules on his lips cracking apart from the motion to dribble virulent green pus across his blackened teeth.

The little Eldar girl was attempting to affect the endgame of this play. Such a childish and foolish action! Grandfather Nurgle would forgive her and welcome her into his broad and pestilent. embrace though, he was so loving after all. So very, very loving. Let the Eldar play their games, and let the boring drama of the Followers of the Corpse Emperor dance on her strings. It was all a mummer's farce, and only he truly understood the joke.

He laughed merrily as he ordered his troops to dig in.

After all, new guests were coming to the party.

================================================================

The distress call from the Forge World of Iunden had finally been answered, and was answered in force. Iunden’s materials were planet locked as long as their neighboring planet was in enemy hands and the Lords of Terra had mobilized a severe response.

Captain Harry Paget of the 1st Allied Mechanicus Regiment sat in the briefing room as his superiors outlined a battle plan that, to the best of his awareness, looked like suicide.

"After careful consideration we have decided that the best course of action is to attempt a focused initial insertion on this facility," Lord Marshall Raglan said as he brought up the surveillance photographs of the landing point. This is Port Telestos, a former communications array and early warning base as well as one of the main spaceports on this part of the continent, now corrupted in service to the Ruinous powers!" He puffed out his breath, his snowy white mustache bristling. "We were forced to watch as those Chaos scum turned it into a manufacturing plant for those plague siege towers," he slapped his pointer at the screen, showing off the ominous shapes in the upper right quadrant and a manufacturing building in the lower right.

"However, the 1st Allied doesn't need to sit around any longer, now that we have the support of two Chapters of The Emperor's Finest! Haw!" He puffed out his chest as he nodded in recognition of the hulking armored shapes lurking at the edges of the meeting...as though he had somehow been responsible for getting them here.

The Raven Guard had been in system almost from the beginning of the conflict, and in Harry's opinion it was only their rather suicidal willingness to descend to the planet and rescue civilians or attack points of interest that had prevented the Chaos and Ork forces from managing a focused assault on the Forge World of Iunden. This was a point Harry was quite thankful for them for, since he and his unit had been stationed on Iunden during that entire time.

The Immortal Host were new arrivals though. The purple armored warriors arriving in their fortress-monastery accompanied by huge fleet of space marine warships - six companies of strength. It was this unexpected arrival and fearsome fighting power that had finally convinced the doddering old Raglan of the insane idea that somehow they had enough of an army to re-take Saios...as far as harry was concerned the only smart move would have been full orbital bombardment until nothing was left but a charred ruin. He had managed to submit the paperwork suggesting as such - but feared it had been lost somewhere.

"The attack will proceed thusly," Raglan pointed to the landing pad in the upper left - our primary force of Allied Mechanicus supported by elements of the Raven Guard 6th company will form a beach head here and push to the south. Primary goal is elimination of the bastions here and here," he indicated two ominous looking buildings, "and a vital secondary goal is claiming hold of the comms relays to help us cordinate our further attacks on the planet."

"Vital secondary objective," muttered Harry to himself, "wouldn't that be a primary objective, you twit?" He rather hoped the other Company and Platoon commandeers around him also recognized this idiocy for what it was.

"Simultaneously at the same time," blabbered on Raglan, "The Immortal Host will bring elements from their 1st and 2nd companies in from the east," he motioned to the right side of the map again, "their goal to dismantle the bastions there, and set up fire support for the push to the comms relays." If the purple armored giants had any opinion of their role in this, they gave no sign. Not even so much as a head nod. "Of course, the approach of the Allied Mechanicus ground forces will be supported by a pinpoint accuracy bombardment from the fleet as commanded by me, the shock and awe of the bombardment should make the whole matter quite easy, Haw-haw!"

A pinpoint orbital barrage? Harry tried not to laugh. "Wonder what raging psychopath they got to agree to lead this one?" He smirked as he asked the question to the commander to his left. Then, with a growing sense of dread he realized the room had gone quiet. He looked up to see Lord Raglan smiling that senile mad grin of his, his eyes gleaming.

"Harry, m'boy! I know you'll be wanting to lead the Van, aye?"

"Oh...oh frak me."

The Rules of Battle
Spoiler:

Round 1 - The Imperium Strikes Back
The central spaceport on Saios is a key position for both sides. The spaceport maintains many of the early warning systems that protect the planet from spaceborn assault and has recently been repurposed as factory for chaos warmachines.
The Imperials are looking to establish a foothold on the planet to bring their bigger wargear on planet, and cripple the plague tower production. Chaos is looking to deny the Imperials easy access to the planet and remove the early warning system provided by the spaceport to a more secure location.

Rules –
Planet Strike 3000 pts per side, NO superheavies or apocalypse formations (this was modified somewhat as I fail at math and brought 1750, not 1500. The Orks took an extra 250 as well and we called it a fair deal)

Objectives –
2 Early Warning system radar (contestable by infantry)
4 Bastions, 2 with comm relays, 1 with lascannon and bolters, 1 with quad gun.

Special Rules –
The side controlling the EWS at the end of the game receives 4 VPs
Bastions award 1 VP as per Planetary Strike rule book
First Blood and Line Breaker are not in use.
Final Mission Bonuses –
• Chaos control of the early warning system allows them to anticipate and disrupt imperial reserves (one free disruption beacon)
• Imperial control of the spaceport deprives Chaos of their early warning system allowing the Imperial Navy to strike with impunity (free scheduled bombardment)

Just a pretty Librarian.

The Setup
Spoiler:

Chaos and their Orky allies infest the spaceport heavily. With the construction of the plague towers it has become a focal point for Chaos worship, and has attracted many cultists.
In addition, the Ork Meks seem drawn here as well, eager to loot cast off bits of machinery from the Chaos factories for their own purposes. The Imperium has chosen a deadly landing ground.

Ork Tankbustas fill a bunker guarding the west flank.

Ork Lootas and Chaos Obliterators prowl the catwalks of the factory, ready to rain death down on any who approach.

Two battlewagons lurk in the southwest corner - the Ork forces are strong here, ready to throw back any assault.

The main defensive tower - equipped with bolters and a lascannon, it is infested by 2 squads of Oblits, and 2 sorcerers - this will be an important fortress to claim, but will cost many brave warriors their lives to try.

Chaos Cultists fill all of the Bastions besides the primary one, and the Orks and Oblits stalk the rest of the complex.

One of the Comms relay bastions - able to aid the Defenders in their reserve rolls.

A vile Plague tower under construction.

Two almost finished Plague Towers - it is vital to the Imperium to take apart this complex before there are enough of these monstrosities to infect the entire planet.

The Battle (Pic Heavy)
Spoiler:

The Imperium wans to attack from the south side (behind the battlewagons, hurr, rear armor, hurr!) But Chaos and the Orks are like, nuh-uh, we will use deployment denial and now you need to come in from a different side. The Imperium chooses the North side and shrug, claiming they'll kill everything anyway.

The Imperium's first move is to reveal the Immortal Host's strategem - Confusion! The Lootas are pulled out of their cover and placed on open catwalks, while the Oblits are shoved closer to the Imperium deployment zone where the 1st Allied Mechanius plans to...wait for it...obliterate them.

Now to see how we do for Firestorm...

...we'll accept that.

Marcus Scipio working to drop some blasts on the Battlewagons, but the scatters serve him poorly, and besides a lucky shake that killed a Cultist very little damage is done.

Better damage is done to the Lootas as the catwalk is engulfed in flame and Orks are sent screaming and burning as the leap off the walkways to their deaths.

More blasts crash into the Tankbusta bunker, killing almost a third of the squad before they've even had a chance to smash a vehicle.

The Immortal Host Sternguard leads the way as they drop down amidst the Plague Tower holding field and head towards the primary tower - their job is to overcome the stern defense and secure the entire left flank.

To support their melta packing brethren, some more Sternguard with plasma weaponry drop in.

The forces of The Immortal Host ready themselves for glory.

Not liking the lay of the land at all, Captain Paget leads his forces into battle, his squad and the horde of Conscripts prepare to lay down suppressing fire on the Obliterators.
First rank fire, second rank fire...EVERYBODY FIRE! I want those things dead!

Bran Lachlann and Emerald Wing drop down to support the IG.

Amethyst Wing drops down as well.

Though they are rather distant from the rest of the army...guess we'll just take out these battlewagons then.

The Stormtroopers drop in nearby, their goal is to finish off the Lootas and then form a firebase to support the Raven Guard.

Shadow Captain Lachlann considers the nearby Chaos Sorcerer and the Oblits a primary threat.

The Immortal Host trot forward towards the tower, seeking cover but finding little.

One of the Immortal Host squads runs afoul of a Krak trap, and lose more than half their number before they even hit the ground of the battle field - both of their melta gunners are lost - the tower siege just got more complicated...

The dark tower looks ominous - but the IG have a few tricks of their own to help out, they unleash a Teleport Barrage, and fuse 3 Obliterators and the Sorcerer with the very walls of the bastion - suddenly the unassailable fortress looks more attainable.

The IG advance from the left side, looking to claim the objectives there via weight of bodies. Meanwhile surgical marine strikes hope to dismantle the defenses.
A cunning plan, but can it work?

The view of the defenders as the host approaches - like tiny, purple, insects. Papa Nurgle approves!

Prepare lasrifles, fire!
The Stormtroopers pick apart the last of the Lootas - the Ork firing line has been severed.

Now it's up to the Raven Guard Amethyst wing to deal with the Ork reserves...

Like silent death the Raven Guard spring forward, readying a melta bomb and grenades as they assault one of the Ork warmachines.

The Oblits weather the IG shooting as though laser bolts are just a soft summer rain - realizing the Oblits could decimate the infantry forces if left unmolested Shadow Captain Lachlann springs forward with his squad to engage them in hand to hand combat.

"In the Emperor's name, you shall fall, scion of Chaos!"
Bran and the Chaos sorcerer face off in a deadly duel as their units battle.

Their Captain is unable to wound the sorcerer, and his squads weapons bounce off the Oblit's armor, but the slowly stalking death machines push on, felling two battle brothers as they fight to reclaim the walkway and hold the Early Warning System radar.

Amethyst Wing meets with more success, and destroys the battlewagon - now they just need to contend with the angry survivors of the explosion...

With the aid of their comm relays...all of the Chaos and Ork reserves arrive.

HAHAHAHA! DAKKA-DAKKA-DAKKA!
With a horrendous roar of jet engines, the Ork air force appears in deadly dives controlled falls and move to target the Immortal Host 2nd company elements.

Chaos bikes also arrive, ready to bring their flamers to bear on the Raven Guard.

"Excellent with the Oblits tied up we can send the Conscripts forward while we hold the rear lines, and..." Captain Paget's hopes are dashed as two Ork Big Meks, and a horde of Kommandos burst out of hidden holes they had buried themselves in,

"SURPRISE ATTACK!" They howl at the top of their lungs as they lumber forward with flamers.

Dark Chaos magic is also brought to bear, enfeebling Raven Guard and Immortal host units.

"Dis is Blu Thunda reportin' in!" Shouted Gorbag out the window as he passed over the Big Meks, "whot's the plan!?!"

When they didn't answer...not that he was certain he could have heard them even if they did...not that he was certain they had heard him...aw, zoggit, let's just shoot up the beakie-boyz, WAAAAAGH!

Photo proof for Bruce that I was right about him placing that Dakkajet illegally close to my army - neener-neener

More Chaos bikes arrive, readying their melta gun to deal with one of the Sentinels.

We are so boned, though Captain Paget to himself. Now I need to figure out a way to get out of here...

Chaos Cultists hold their bastion, but don't bother to come out and face the Stormtroopers.

"Hey, there is stuff to stomp out there, an' according to the Co-dexy, when dere's stuff ta stomp, we stompz it!"
The Ultraboyz roar out of their battlewagon in picture perfect parade formation and shout invectives to Nob-but Orky-man as they prepare to bring battle to the Raven Guard.

They open fire and drop four Raven Guard!

The Chaos flamers finish the job, Amethyst Wing is down.

The last Oblit from the prime Bastion lumbers out of the mangled mess of walls and Oblit parts to bring some flamer love to the Stormtroopers.

Things go poorly for the Stormtroopers, and the Orks in the crater finish off the last two survivors. The southwest quadrant is in firm, and very green, hands once again.

The withering firepower of the Dakkajets cuts apart the Immortal Host as they move forward with dogged determination to reach their objective.

The Kommandos and Big Meks unleash a torrent of urnas into the massed guard lines.

With predictable results.

As the Sentinel is blasted apart by Chaos meltaguns, Shadow Captain Lachlann withdraws from combat with the Oblits, his men having been blunted in trying to deal with the heavy armor and now with the infantry line under further danger, Lachlann prepares to give battle to the Big Meks and Kommandos.

Ogryn, Ogryn, Ogryn!
Commissar Steele and his Ogryn squad rush forward to secure the line (which is possibly a fething line, but Commissar Steele would consider it rude to point that out)

Due to a Perils of the Warp situation the Ratlings are deposited not on their handy planned sniper location, but rather right in front of the Ultraboyz.

"Look to the skies, brother."
The Immortal Host drops down on the Skyshield landing pad and targets the Chaos Bikers.

The Raven Guard moves up as the Ogryn open up with their Ripper Guns on the Kommandos.

A Chaos biker is blasted to shreds.

The weakened vanguard of the Host continues to doggedly try to shoot apart the Oblits holding the bastion.

Meanwhile, another squad decide to say hello to some Chaos Cultists by shoving grenades inside the building - it ends poorly for Chaos.

The southwest secure, the Orks and Chaos now just have to deal with the rest of the battlefield.

Obligatory Thor crotch shot Now our collection is complete.

"Nevermore!"
The Assault Sarge engages a Big Mek in solo combat, shredding him apart with his lightning claws.

The rest of the Kommanods, Snikrot, and the other Big Mek fare little better, being sawed apart by Lachlann's men.

The Immortal Host hold the first secure objective, one of the Bastions has been cleansed of Chaos forces.

The melta Chaos bikes are wiped out by the Immortal Host as well.

The Imperial access route secured, now it's time to resume the push inward.

A Dakka Jet howls towards the Raven Guard, intent to avenge the fallen Kommando force.

The Ratlings killed off some Tankbustas - but now, setting the gearshift to 'mulch' the Orks let their displeasure be known.
The life of a Ratling is not an easy one...

The Ork horde and the Chaos Bikers move to continue the Chaos push and prevent further gains by the Imperium.

Closing in on the Immortal Host forces, Chaos and the Orks begin to dismantle their assault.
With fire.

The Green tide spreads outward, ready to drown everything in its path.

Another Perils victim - the Assault Termies were consigned to a far corner and are having to footslog forward.

The damage done to the Immortal Host vanguard by the Dakka jets and also how the one battle fortress is holding this flank is very clear here.

Chaos contains the advance and starts crushing it as they shove back.

The Oblits hold the high ground, and with the Dakka Jets have turned the surface of the spaceport into a killing field.

The Dakka Jet cuts apart most of Emerald Wing, leaving only the Sargent and Lachlann.

Lachlann is undeterred and leads his last upright battle brother onto the rooftops - it was time to finish off the Oblits and secure the approach into the rest of the spaceport.

The assault squad of the Host moves in to help as well.

"Up and to them, my lads, let's give them the cold steel!"
"Yar, and krunch them too!"
Commissar Steele and the Ogryn Bone'ead move in as well. The Oblits have been tough to deal with, but if brute force doesn't work, you're probably not using enough.

The Immortal Host enters the tower, and begins a brutal war of grenades, flamers, and ambush as they fight to clear the Oblits from the central defense point. Finally the Chaos guns begin to fall silent as they dismantle the computer operated firing systems.

The lone Oblit is still trading shots with the tattered Immortal Host forces on the ground level near the tower.

Battered and bloody, the Immortal Host lays claim to firing positions and began unleashing supporting fire into the Spaceport - now the Imperium has fire support!

"You are a creature of Chaos, and I intend to kill you in unpleasant ways!"
"Bring it, Corpse worshipper!"
Commissar Steele challenges the Chaos Sorcerer as their men clash.

Chaos might be a bit outnumbered...

Both Lachlann and one of the Immortal Host perform jump-pack assisted flying knees to the Oblit's faces, felling the agents of Chaos before they can even begin to prepare themselves for the attack.

Meanwhile, Steele bodyslams the sorcerer and smashes his skull in.
"Sic, Semper, Hereticus!"

Librarian Darius of the Immortal Host used his jump pack to keep him where the fighting was thickest. Still, he seemed intently to be searching amongst the fallen Sorcerers for something, as though it were more important to him than the battle's outcome.

He still led the assault on the Chaos Bikers, cleansing the battlefield of their taint.

As the Immortal Host secured the rearguard, the Ogryn and Raven Guard pressed their advantage.

The Ultraboyz were eager to answer their challenge.
"The Co-dexy sayz when stuff gets bad, stand inna central location firing in all directions and striking cool poses! Waaagh, dakka-dakka-dakka!"

The two waves of Imperial and Ork reserves rush inexorably towards each other...

The Immortal Host rearguard is decimated as the Weirdboy crackles with power and hurls bolts of energy across the board to blast them to pieces.

The Dakka Jets return.

One of the blasting apart a couple of Ogryns and their Bone'ead.

The other decimates the Conscripts, killing almost all of them in one wild strafing run.

Commissar Steele politely reminds them that he would be allowed by his orders to kill them all if they ran...so they choose to stay.

The Conscripts more to the satellite array to claim it for The Imperium while the Sentinel attempts to fight off the Dakka Jets with bursts of auto-cannon fire.

So close, yet so far - the Termies continue their slow walk.

The tattered vanguard of the Host finally claims the tall tower - the powers of Chaos in the north east quadrant has been sundered, and now is firmly held by the Host.

The lone Oblit still stalks the battlefield though, attacking any Immortal Host it spots.

Orks also still resist and try to defend the final objectives.

Orks fire into the onrushing Ogryns to little real effect.

Librarian Darius hunts down the final Oblit, securing the quadrant for the Imperium forces.

The Sentinel does little to the Dakka Jets.

We are relevant!

Chaos holds this comm relay, a bastion beyond, and the access alley way is filled with the Ultraboyz.
"Stay with me, lads," Commissar Steele leads the Ogryn's forward, "now kick them in their face!"

Lachlann and the Ogryns smash into the orkish lines.

"We're losin' boyz, quick, write a new Co-dexy instead of trying ta defend da Palace!"
Commissar Steele ignores this blasphemous talk and instead wades through the Ork lines, tearing them apart and breaking the back of the final Ork defense.

The Immortal Host holds the high tower.

Conscripts secure the vital Array.

Though the Orks still rule the skies in their Dakka Jets, the Cultists are no match against the Ogryn and Raven Guard assaults.
With a few rude gestures out the windows, Blu Thunda leads the withdrawl. The Imperium holds the Spaceport - the liberation of Saios has begun!

The Ending Fluff
Spoiler:

"Paget, Captain Paget, are you okay?"

Harry Paget's eyes flickered open to see the scar coated and half mechanized face of Commissar Steele smiling down at him. He groaned in pain and ganced around at the burned and twisted bodies around him.

"What...?"

"Oh, you had an amazing stroke of luck," offered Steele cheerfully as he pulled him to his unsteady feet. "When the Orks ambushed you, one of your men bravely sprang in front of you, saving you from the blast even though you had been knocked unconscious."

"Oh, right..." Honestly, Harry's recollection was that he had grabbed the man and said something along the lines of 'better you than me' but he didn't think it wise to correct the Commissar. "Did we...win then?"

"Of course, there was no doubt we would win here, The Emperor stood with us!" Steele motioned across the charred battlefield to the hundreds of dead and dying and the small handful of survivors securing the drop site.

"Indeed, I can see his beneficent and careful hand here very clearly," Harry answered. He was quite thankful that, like most Emperoro swearers, Steele seemed to be immune to sarcasm and common sense.

"More drop ships are descending now, as well as bulk carriers." The sonorous voice belonged to the Raven Guard captain, Lachlann. He walked through the carnage towards them, his armor chipped and pitted with battle damage, his arms and chest splattered with blood and other vile substances. "I'm already sending out scouts to keep us aware of the approach of any Chaos forces or those of their allies."

"Chaos will not be pressing the attack here." The Immortal Host Librarian who had still never bothered to give Harry his name, stalked up to them. He had removed his helmet and his eyes gleamed with an unearthly and unhealthy light that made Harry want to put some distance between them. "You men will be safe landing here."

"How do you know they will not counterattack?" Lachlann glanced at the Librarian. "Strategically it is the only sensible option available to them."

"Is it?" The Immortal Host Librarian had a ghost of a smile on his lips as he shrugged and walked away back towards his forces.

"What was that all about?" Harry glanced at Lachlann and Steele. Steele shrugged, uncertain, and if Lachlann had any thoughts he did not deign to share them. Harry sighed as he brushed off his uniform and glanced around. He hoped the odd psyker was correct though, he could do without needing to be any closer to Orks, or Chaos, or anything else for a while. It was about time he tried to make himself look very useful here, hopefully so useful he'd be placed in charge of holding the rear guard.

And if the Emperor would hand him that, then His name be praised. Harry made the sign of the Aquila and started shouting orders to the nearest officers he could spot.

The Ending Battle Review
Spoiler:

Imperium MVP

Not too difficult of a call here - I'd hand it to the Ogryn and Yarrick combo - whic really did single-handidly chew through the center of the Chaos and Ork defense lines while absorbing a terrific amount of firepower at only moderate loss of combat effectiveness. If not for that sledgehammer, the Imperium push from the north would have faltered and died beneath Ork burnas.

Imperium WTF

Possibly a toss up - I would say it was either the Sentinels, who never inflicted a single wound and were mostly ignored the entire game.
Or it was the Assault Termies, who were Periled over to a far corner and spent the rest of the game slowly walking towards the fight, never hurting anything, and never even being shot at.

Chaos/Orks MVP

Sort of the Oblits in general I think - to a large extent they were what held the Chaos lines as long as they did, without them the Imperium would have probably swept across the battlefield even quicker.
The Dakka Jets are the other option - the Imperium had no answer to them and the amount of casualties they inflicted was fairly staggering. I would expect to see more anti-air firepower from other armies in future games.

Chaos/Orks WTF

I'd say that poor Oblit squad that ate it from the Teleport Barrage. That was a lot of points gone before the game even got underway really.
The other possible call out is the Cultists - yeah, they held objectives, but they literally did nothing else. I don't think they even tried to shoot anything, they just sat there chanting Chaos camper songs, and then were turned into smears under Imperial boots. Lesser daemons probably would have been of more help.

Possibly the best fluffy battle report I've ever seen. Keep them coming!!! any idea when the next one will be out. The parent thread definitely earned a place in my favorites though.

Just a quick question about the types of forces chaos has. Will we be seeing any of the newer units, like fliers or dakkafiends? Also it's almost essential now to ally with daemons IMHO. The utility you get from bringing the extra dex is just too great to pass up. Your thoughts?

@Protonhunter: The next game is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Dec 22nd. It will be a city fight with a very dense amount of terrain.

Regarding the allies/ daemons thing, my only allies during this campaign will be whichever player is teaming up with me in each game.

As a rule, I never use the allies rules. It is just a personal preference. I have had great success with this codex on it's own.

Regarding new units, I don't really plan to get any of those models( well, maybe for my 1000sons.)

Jake, who will be in future games, has picked up a forge fiend, so we may see that later....

Thank you very much for the fluff nod!
As John noted, the game is scheduled for the 22nd - I imagine I'll type it up and post sometime Sunday but no later than Monday as I try to force myself to be efficient on that note.

As currently stands it will be assorted Space Marines vs. Nurgle and Orks which will make sense from a fluff standpoint considering the point of the mission in story.
We're all mostly saying (at least to each other) that we're bringing almost all infantry for the battle. Ought to be fun that way.
