This thread follows on from this thread so as not to take it OT http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/494617.page
I have an idea of painting up the Sons of Dorn 7th Company to complement my Sons of Orar, for no reasons other than I like the colour scheme and it'll make it more interesting for me to paint and field a force of different colour schemes.
I'm interested in what people were saying about a chapter of blanks though? What's that all about?

The Sons of Dorn is a chapter of Space Marines, based on, well it's pretty darn obvious. Their Chapter Master is a Pariah, who basically crushed a Tyranid-invasion all on his own.
I tend to rag on the idea of being horrible as a Blank is infinitely more rare than a psyker and Culeux should have first gibs on them not some Space Marine chapter.
As for the chapter itself, unless you trust my lip-service you have the link here http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Sons_of_Dorn

If you do read the fluff however you'll realise that his powers appeared in the middle of a battle and before that were totally unknown. A latent blank if you will.
It's not like they could just pull a chapter master out of a chapter to turn him into an assassin is it?

Quintus Decius Alexandros, “Alexandros the Blind” (Current Chapter Master) – Also born to the famous Archean Lineage of Alexandros the Great, Quintus Decius Alexandros is the second Alexandros descendant to rise within the ranks of the Sons of Dorn to the position of Chapter Master. After ascending unusually fast to prominence within the ranks of his Battle-Brothers, Quintus was unanimously selected to be the sole candidate to undergo the trial to become the next Chapter Master in 889.M41. Though initially reluctant, he was eventually allowed to imbibe the poisoned blood of his ancestor. Surviving the potent effect of the virulent toxin, Quintus was deemed worthy and chosen as Chapter Master. He went on to serve as the Lord of the Sons of Dorn for the next decade, showing no signs of corruption or taint, until the arrival of the Tyranid splinter fleet that ravaged his homeworld in 999.M41. Recovering from severe wounds incurred during the defence of the Imperium during the 13th Black Crusade, Quintus was convalescing upon Archea within the Chapter’s Apothecarium when word reached him that a Tyranid Hive Fleet was fast approaching. During the final brutal assault of the Tyranid swarm when all hope seemed lost, Quintus manifested the innate anti-psychic abilities of a carrier of the Pariah Gene or "psychic blank", severing the swarm’s link to the Hive Mind. This was seen as a miracle by those Battle-Brothers that witnessed it, and soon he was hailed as the Chapter’s prophesied savior. Reverently referred to as “Alexandros the Blind”, it is believed that he will one day confront his corrupt ancestor and destroy him, erasing the dark stain on the Sons of Dorn's honour that has plagued them for over five millennia.
Of course I have read it purplefood, and as you see it's not badly written. But still it's a bad idea in my mind formulated nicely. And for the Chapter Master Assassin. Whatever you are popping I want some.

No, I like it! And as for there being complaints of people wanting to field an entire force of these pariahs, why not? Look at the Black Ships and their cargo (the silent sisterhood?). An entire force made up entirely of pariahs.
Can't see why that'd be seen as a bad thing, or even a sign of them being OP, as they're effective against psykers right? Well how many psykers are in your army? Unless you're grey knights / daemons I can't see it making that much difference
That being said, I do think my 7th Company Captain will be a bit of an outcast, mistrusted by his fellow captains, and seen more as a rogue mercenary for hire that is happier to sell his sword to other chapters than obediently revere his Chapter Masters every word. I have the idea that he believes his CM's "sudden psychic ability" is a mark of chaos, brought on by Tzeentch, though he can't prove this...
Anyway...

It isn't the combat-ability of the blanks I'm against. It's the fact they are so rare. And it's stated in fluff the blanks often gets hated without reason. Basically they are people you wanna punch or worse just when you lay eyes on them, and you don't know why. And since it's like that with them, they will always be in the bottom-rung of the society often the subject of missing persons reports if even that. And assembling a lot of them is difficult, if not impossible due to they likely have to be held at special areas at the ships to avoid them frakking up the Astropaths and Navigators. Also the Black Ships is for gathering psykers not Blanks. Well your captain can regard the CM as a mutant. That will be believable at least. And the general revulsion he is bound to have for the CM might have been more outbound as he believed he would be a CM before the Blind. Of course for the last part I'm stabbing blindly.
