I stumbled across Warmachine at my FLGS and it really ran away with my imagination. I bought a pair of Cryx deathrippers on impulse and jumped on the Privateer Press website when I got home. Long story short, I've got a few more Cryx bits on their way to me and plans for quite a few more. Here's a WIP of my first deathripper:

I stuck fairly close to the studio scheme as it's one of the things that attracted me to the faction in the first place. I'm still undecided about a basing scheme, any ideas are welcome.

I'm still learning about Warmachine, so if I stuff something up please let me know. Any and all feedback is appreciated.

I got my first deathripper finished and based last night. I decided to go for a mud theme and I'm really happy with how it turned out. I'm going to have to find an equivalent for scorched brown, though, I can see this scheme chewing through it.

There are a few more pictures in my gallery too, for those interested. I've started work on the second deathripper, but won't post any WIPs as it's pretty much the same as this one. I'm planning to repose it, though, just for a bit of variation. Once that's done, it's waiting for the other minis I've ordered to arrive.

I quite like it, especially the basing. Only thing though is that some parts look shiny; it may just be the photo, but if you're using the new GW washes, giving them a few quick shakes each time before you use them eliminates the shininess.

Thanks Basing is one of my favourite parts of modelling.

And I've noticed that about the GW washes, so thanks for the tip. In this case it's just the photo (still trying to find a good photography setup), but a few of my other models have come out looking very shiny.

They have a nice sort of grimy look to them that always suits Cryx.

Thanks Grimy is always fun.

I'm still getting my head around the fluff for these guys, I picked them purely based on looks. But from what I've gathered, they're not meant to look clean at all.

And now I've finished the second deathripper. I re-posed this one, just to differentiate it from the first. It's... okay, but if I were to do it again I would probably do a different pose. I'm calling this one Howl.

I've also started working on my scavenger.

Messy WIP of my first scrap thrall.

I am feeling ridiculously proud of myself right now because I pulled off colour blending for the first time ever and it feels amazing and looks amazing and urgh.

The downside being that I’m now paranoid I’ll ruin everything every time I touch the model.

One plot post about WM/H deserves another Nice job on the rippers, dig that repose, and nice job on the bases. Is the mud really that shiny after drying? Cool effect, nice and squishy

Good luck with the undead robots, will be watching. Care to share what you have planned? Starting with Denny, or got eevil schemes already?

Thanks. With the mud, it's a two step thing. First I build up the shape I want with modelling sand, place the model and paint the base brown brown (in the scavenger WIP below I've only done that step). The next step is mixing up a brown paint/PVA mix and painting that on top. That's the part that dries shiny.

As for other plans, I've nearly got a scavenger finished.

Then I've got the three scrap thralls and two casters, the older Iron Lich Asphyxious and Master Necrotech Mortenebra. I'm a painter rather than a player, so I just went with models that appealed to me. Once I've finished all of those I'm planning to get a Warwitch Siren, the Withershadow Combine and an Iron Lich Overseer.

I had a productive night last night and managed to get a couple more models finished.

First, the scavenger. I'm only putting a couple of pictures here, but there are more in the gallery for any interested parties. The only thing I'm not really happy with is the extreme highlights, I got a bit sloppy with them and they're far too chunky as a result.

Next up is Deryliss, the solo that comes with Master Necrotech Mortenebra. This one was a bit of a battle to paint, but it came together fairly quickly. I did have a lucky discovery - Citadel sepia wash over a mix of gold and silver gives a nice, soft, warm gold colour. That's what I used on the scale mail here. I'd love any feedback on it.

I'm still working on the scrap thralls, I've started Iron Lich Asphyxious and poor old Mortenebera is still sitting in her blister. Sooooo many tiny metal spider bits...

And I finally got my first scrap thrall finished. I'm really happy with how it came out, even though all the small details were driving me mad.

Two more scrap thralls to go, as well as Asphyxious and Mortenebra. After that, I'll be taking a break from Cryx and starting up some Everblight from Hordes.

I've started work on Mortenebra. I'm having a ball painting her, she's so gorgeous and characterful.

I had a go at putting some blended gradients on her legs, they came out alright. I like wet blending a lot, but I need a bit more practise at it.

Progressing nicely and I agree it's an interesting model.

The paintjob really helps accentuate the creepy nature of the models. I really like the use of that muted blue on the last figure, it goes well with the metallics and I'm looking forward to seeing her finished.

Thanks, n0t_u and Stormfather, I really appreciate the feedback. Here are a few pics of finished Mortenebra, there are some more in my gallery if you're interested.

Like I said in my WIP update, she is so much fun to paint. I got a bit impatient towards the end, so I may come back for a few small details later but she’s done for now. The OSL is a new technique for me. I wasn’t super happy with it to begin with, but it’s growing on me the more I look at it. I definitely feel like I’m getting better at this painting business, but as usual any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.

I also took a few pictures of her with her solo Deryliss. I really like how they look as a pair.

Thanks I don't know how to play Warmachine, but it's a skirmish style game so it focuses on individual characters rather than units, hence the really individual models. The IP is quite interesting, the publisher's website is privateerpress.com if you're interested. As for the other blogs, well, they're still happening. I've done a bit of work on my sonic dread and I've nearly finished another Iron Warrior, but I've just really been caught up in Warmachine stuff of late.

So... It's been a while.

I've taken a bit of a break from the Cryx stuff and moved over to Hordes, specifically Everblight. After months of waiting, my order finally arrived last week:

My plan with Everblight is to do them in less of a realistic style, more cartoony, and lots of bright colours.

Below is a WIP of the third shredder I've started painting, it's the one I'm happiest with. The other two are destined for a Dettol bath.

Apologies for the photo quality, the colours got a bit washed out.

I'm going to base these guys in a desert, a la Pandora (the Borderlands one). I've started work on the base for raek.

The next step will be to build up a styrene box around the outside, to neaten up the edges and hide the joins a bit more. The sand on top will be brought up to a much lighter brown, and then cream.

Because of the way raek is sculpted, I'm going to have it batting at a small rodent hiding in some grass. From the PP site:

And lastly, a picture of said rodent. When I paint it up, the body will be grey and the tail will be pink.
