Also serves as primary defense point for Iunden.
Importance: Population, minimal. Strategic defense value, Vital.
Recently lost to an attack by Chaos and Orks

Secondary habital world: Iunden
Designation: Forge World.
Estimated Population: 75,000,000

of the sector.
Importance: Minimal

Primary uninhabitable world: Avita
Designation: Prison World
Estimated Population: Unknown
Notable Locations: Alpha Star Landing and Sorting Facility

Quaternary habitable world: Gimat
Designation: Hive World
Estimated Population: 65,000,000,000

Septenary habitable world: St. Eride
Designation: Shrine World
Estimated Population: Unknown,
Notable Locations: Cathedral of St. Eride, The Grove of Enduring Hatred, The Graves of the Thousand Unsullied.

Notable features of Sub-Sector

Talf Asteroid Belt

This serves as a buffer between the galactic east and west of the sub-sector. The asteroid belt is considered a navigatable obstruction, but it does require skill and knowing the proper routes.

Alert! It is believed that Ork Freebooterz from WAAAAAGH Zog’dakka are currently within the Belt. Evidence shows that during the “ramming action” at Saios that multiple Ork vessels “missed” the planet. It is believed that they are located here and represent the current increase in loss of ships traversing the Belt.

Recommended Course of Action: Extermination after securing of the sub-sector.

Unknown Spatial Distortion

Known colloquially amongst the local populations as ‘The Maw of The Dragon’. The Mechanicum has accurately named it ‘Spatial Distortion 456829-x3637, improper use of name can lead to fines or incarceration. The distortion appears to simply be a minor fluctuation in an electrically neutral medium of positive and negative particles. The Mechanicum has advocated further study and the Sub-sector Governor has authorized transference to Avita any who spread unfounded rumors about Spatial Distortion 456829-x3637.

Pyres of Petod is a continuation of Counter Assault on Saios.

A short History recap
Spoiler:

Many ages ago Farseer Diyneer of the Eldar sought to hide an ancient Eldar artifact known as the Elendil Thrakul on Saios.
Despite her best efforts an ancient Chaos Daemon known as Gentukama arrived to unearth the artifact, using his own Nurgle spawned armies and also the unsuspecting help of a mighty Ork warband (who, really, were just in it for the lootin' and the krumpin') he conquered Saios and sought to uncover the Elendil Thrakul.

Imperial forces arrived to push him off the planet, notably amongst them were The Immortal Host (a Dark Angels successor chapter), The Raven Guard, The Black Templar, and The Allied 1st Mechanicus (Imperial Guard tithed to Mars).
Through many battles the Imperial forces struggled, proving unable to overcome the Chaos onslaught despite a few minor victories. The Raven Guard decided the primary danger was to Iunden and fell back to reinforce there with help from the Allied 1st, while the Black Templar continued to attack at every opportunity and the Immortal Host proved...uncertain allies since they appeared to be serving a purpose of their own design.

At the culmination Farseer Diyneer herself took a hand, rescuing the Elendil Thrakul with the help of the Imperial Guard, and then escaping with it off planet while luring in some old Tau allies to serve as a distraction.

Gentukama and the forces of Nurgle pursued, leaving behind a planet infested with Orks and Nurgle cults and also leaving the sub-sector at risk with uncertainty of where they would strike next.
Now it falls to the Imperium to reclaim and pacify the troubled sub-sector, dealing with Ork infestations, Gentukama's machinations, and also other possible rising threats.
And all the while, the moment of the Elendil Thrakul's true purpose grows closer.

Notable Individuals and Armies
Spoiler:

The Imperial Alliance

The Immortal Host

Led by Chapter Master Azamerac, the Immortal Host arrived in support to the Saios campaign without actually being invited. Over the course of their time here they have served with distinction in many of the most important battles, and indeed stand as the firm bulwark upon which most of the Imperial victories could be counted. That said, they appear to have ulterior motives that occasionally have them departing the battlefield, leaving allies alone and unsupported while they perform missions only they understand. The Inquisition had arranged for a member to accompany them and to report back his findings, but unfortunately he met with an untimely end and there currently seems to be a lack of available personnel to take up his mantle.

By dint of bringing their entire chapter to bear in the sub-sector the Immortal Host has been placed in overall command of the defense, and have placed their members at many key locations throughout the sub-sector.

The Black Templar

Centuries ago the Black Templar helped purge Saios of the taint of xenos, and when the sub-sector became a problem spot again, they returned in force. Though occasionally distracted by their determination to defend ancient relics and holy sights from their last crusade, none can question the fighting spirit of the Black Templar, who have single handedly engaged and defeated more daemon princes and other such great beasts in this campaign than any other Imperial faction. Their fervor for battle is great and seemingly endless, and there is little question that if the sub-sector is to fall, then it will do so over their fallen bodies.

Marshall Melthas is a fearsome opponent, who (perhaps wisely) does not fully trust the xenos allies the Imperium has accepted thanks to the Immortal Host. Whever his men are he will unquestionably march with them at the forefront, ever ready to bring battle to the foes of the Emperor.

The Black Templar also still wield the god machine Velox Venetor. Though it was felled in battle against the Dark Eldar and corrupted by Chaos, loyal Templars reclaimed it on the battlefield from fleeing Dark Mechanicum Adepts and returned it to Iunden for reconstitution. The forge factories work night and day, and the litanies are spoken in never ending crescendos while sanctified bells have been rung for six months straight. It cannot be too soon that the machine can be repaired and ready once again to walk the battlefield alongside the Templar to bring fire and fury to the heretic.

The Allied 1st Mechanicus

For Mars and the Omnissiah!

With an important Forge World at risk, Mars dispatched one of its own tithed detachments to help secure the sub-sector. Though there is some question about their ultimate loyalties, the men, women, and abhumans of the Allied 1st have been involved in every major engagement of the war thus far. From securing the planetfall site, to attempting to secure the Killswitch, to seizing the Elendil Thrakul, and even battling Chaos during the last desperate moments prior to retreat, the Allied 1st has been there.

Armed with the finest gear the Mechanicum can provide and countless bodies to man it all, they will be vital in the defense of the remaining Imperial holdings in the sub-sector.

Heroic Harry 'Flash' Paget in the battle for the Iunden Killswitch

Their best known member is unquestionably the fearless and peerless Captain Harry Paget, whose words, renown, and deeds are known throughout the Petod system. It is only with heroes like these that the Imperium can stand against the taint of xenos and heretical scum alike!

The Raven Guard

Lachlann's Unkindness was the first chapter in the theatre of war, arriving long before any other Imperial force and fighting an early holding action against Gentukama's raids. They were at the forefront of the initial Planetstrike assault and fought many battles with the forces of Nurgle and the Orks. They are accredited with being the primary reason so much of the civilian population managed to survive the war efforts, and also were the chapter responsible for locating the Killswitch to the Iunden Defense Network.

After substantial losses and the appearance of greater deamonic forces in addition to Dark Eldar raiding parties the Shadow Captain, Lachlann, began to advise orbital bombardment and total sanction as the only way to deal with the threat, but he was overruled by other theatre commanders. He eventually withdrew his forces to Iunden, foreseeing the Saios counter attack as already doomed, and deciding the best course of action would be to secure the most important planet in the sector and await reinforcement.

Shadow Captain Bran Lachlann engaged in a duel with a Chaos Lord

Now, with the arrival of additional Imperial support forces, the appearance of the entire Immortal Host chapter, and the alliance with the Tau it appears matters are more in hand for Lachlann's liking, and he is once more taking an active part in the war effort, though the schism between the Raven Guard and Immortal Host remains an ongoing friction during command meetings.

I'orek Expeditionary Force

Shas'o Brightwave has led the I'orek Expeditionary Force's (IEF) military detachment for the past 10 years as it traveled with a Tau envoy to make contact with new planets and potentially friendly races. The IEF had been traveling for more than 60 years, meaning that although new information has been received from the Tau Empire, it has not been able to update most of its technologies as of yet.

Although an experienced Commune, the IEF has not had much combat exposure in the past 10 years. There have been some minor engagements, but were conducted solely to allow the Water Caste representatives to withdraw from an endangered position. Rigorous training has kept the Commune in a combat-ready state, but it does have a dearth of experienced combat veterans.

Upon returning to Tau space, the fresh IEF has been tasked with aiding the Eldar in a long-forgotten pact. After a brief retrofit that mostly increase efficiency without changing actual combat output, the IEF has been dispatched to aid Farseer Diyneer.

The Forces of Chaos

Gentukama and the Forces of Nurgle

The armies of Nurgle invaded Saios to claim the Elendil Thrakul. Though their prize has been snatched from them, they are still a major threat in the sub-sector, having large remains of their armies on Saios itself, in addition to their spaceborne fleet that is currently hunting for Diyneer and could strike anywhere.

The Armies of Tzeentch

It is unclear what purpose the forces of Tzeentch have here. Do they operate in alliance with Nurgle, or is this all just some plan of Tzeentch for his own purposes?

Nyx and the Forces of Slaanesh

Currently seeming to be only a small force, Slaanesh elements pledging service to a daemon known as Nyx have been making themselves known. During he fall of Gimat it was reported that multiple Cults of Nyx rose up in defiance of Imperial rule. Could any other planet be so at risk?

The Unaligned

WAAAAGH Zog'dakka

==Transmission first received from Kill Krooza designation 'Jolly Rawr-Ork' upon entering Saios system prior to first Chaos invasion==

Hey? You ‘umies hearin’ me through dis ‘ere talky box? Yeah, well you best listen up! See, we’re up ‘ere with lotsa boyz and ships and other dings that are good, and we’re gonna stop on by your little planet an’ stomp it like we did the one before and da one before dat! I remember our first world, yeah, like it was only a buncha years ago! Da story ‘bout dem black holes or maybe dem Bug Nid things eating da Squats? Not true! See, it was Squatstompa. It’s in his name! You can’t argue with dat! Me an’ da boyz been also helpin’ Squatstompa stomp things that aren’t already partly stomped ta start. We stomped some…lessee, dere were beakie boyz in Green and pretty little dresses, and dey say beakies can’t be gurlz! HAW! We also stomped some weedy panzees and fish-boys an’ stomped pretty much evertink we see. Nowz we gonna stomp you, so get all your best boyz an’ shooty bitz and whatnot and get ready, cause Squatstompa’s already ordered da fleet ta ramming speed and your planet don’t look like it can dodge all dat well…WAAAAAAA-

==transmission ends suddenly==

Zog'dakka doing some sassin' from his sassin' wall while Mr. Grimey, the lucky grot, holds his banna.

Squatstompa has worked for and against the Chaos forces during their invasion. Indeed, his core strategy seems to be to help one side krump the other, and then krump what's left. This is a policy that has made him very popular with 'da ladz'. Despite the loss of the bulk of his fleet in a, perhaps, ill-conceived ramming action against the planet Saios, there have been numerous reports of a new fleet being constructed by the eager Orks, who seem fairly certain there is more fighting to be had, and aren't about to be left out of the fun or the lootin'.

The Eldar

Ancient Eldar constructs stand eternal vigil over the resting place of the Elendil Thrakul

Farseer Diyneer and her Eldar Allies have had a huge impact on the course of the war while barely having fired a shot.
It is clear the Farseer desires to keep the Elendil Thrakul from Gentukama, and also that she is content to allow the Tau and Imperium to battle the Chaos forces. But it is uncertain why she is so protective of the artifact, nor her end goal. As with all things involving the Eldar, probably only time will tell.

The Cerulean Storm

Dark Eldar Jetbikes sweep through the ruins of Weathell Hive during a surprise ambush of Imperial defenders

The Dark Eldar of the Kabal of Cerulean Storm have appeared at two pivotal moments in the campaign. First, they sealed the death of Weathell Hive, and also handed the Imperium a costly defeat that perhaps changed the tide of the war.
Second, hey have appeared to Farseer Diyneer, offering to help her hide from Gentukama, though it is unclear what they hope to gain from their actions.

It is certain however, that they have their own motives and self interest at heart.

A new batrep is up, a very neat scenario based off one from IA 9 - the Badb War. It features combat on an exposed part of a space cruiser's hull as Space Marines battle Chaos Daemons and Thousand Sons to control some jury rigged explosive devices.

Also the Raven Guard finally show up again, and a new codex means Vanguard Vets = Shrike's Wing more or less, huzzah!

3rd edition had some of the coolest missions and armies in the game. What I would pay for a new craftworld eldar.
