Unfortunately, as detailed in this sticky thread ( LINK ) we have to be extra careful about posters from a very specific location in Australia.

Specifically, posters near Telford Close, Dora Creek, NSW (New South Wales) Australia. We do not allow any full personal information to be posted, and that is not the entire address, but just an area to give you an idea.

I am posting this thread for one purpose only- to ask if anyone has an ongoing trade with the user EyeofDC, and if so, if the address is a match... or nearby. The local police were already notified by a user who lives nearby last time the scammer described in the sticky linked to above was active, but that person has been persistent and may try again despite the consequences... so we have to check.

For better or worse, EyeofDC has shown a similar posting pattern, and is posting from a similar location... therefore, I am preemptively asking if anyone has ongoing trades with this new user, who has only been on the site for a week.

Note that any user joining that recently, and offering things like Warhound Titans for sale on the cheap, should be cause for concern... but we have to take special care with this particular area due to the numerous scams listed in the sticky linked to above originating from that location.

Please only post here if you have been in discussions, or are involved in a trade with, EyeofDC. If so, please simply confirm if the address is close to the above area, or if there were any other problems (such as asking you to buy directly from the GW site, rather than through Paypal).

Well, he did offer me a really good deal on several exorcists. I sent him half, with the understanding that that was all I had until payday. He returned it, saying goods and services were locked out for 30 days, since his paypal was new.

Which I have a real problem with, I mean how is that remotely fair? If it was extreme caution because he's from Dora Creek that's fine, but just because he's Australian? Really? Should I be extra wary of every US user on here because there have been some repeat offenders who have made multiple accounts from that country?

Exactly.

It's not because he's from Australia- we have other means of telling where someone is posting from and it's much more specific than that.

He's also offering titans up for sale on the cheap a week after joining. This is a warning sign.

Personally, the above pictures (of... random FW bags? a cardboard box...?) mean nothing to me. I did not ask for them and specifically mentioned they would mean nothing to me if he did post them. And if those are pictures from a real "borrowed camera", not a camera phone, I'd be frankly shocked given the quality. We've all seen this charade before.

Breotan, just FYI regarding "MandelStarOne" (who this thread is not about). He actually often posted up pictures of FW items, particularly blurry ones mostly of the packaging (rather than specific items) just like this. He also posted FW invoices. He placed many orders with them, I'm sure... means absolutely nothing regarding whether or not he was ripping people off.

At this point, this user hasn't done so yet (and honestly, haven't had time to do so, given their join date)- but absolutely all of the warning signs are there and, combined with the specific location, meant we determined it appropriate to post a preemptive warning.

If anyone has something further to add, please PM me... otherwise, I'll lock this up and (hopefully) not have to re-open it again due to someone buying a super cheap titan from a user with absolutely no feedback, who lives near a user who has come back to this site multiple times to scam people. The warning's out there, people can do with it as they see fit.

New info: EyeofDC is asking for Paypal payment sent as a gift (which removes Paypal's protections) or for users to wait 30 days for him to withdraw the funds. This is against the rules for trading here.

I warn anyone against trading with ANY PERSON who you do not actually know well who sets out such conditions. Particularly such a new user.

If EyeofDC asks anyone else this, please PM me or post here. It is 100% not allowed and this will be the only warning regarding this practice.

I love when users post blurry pictures and just expect people to take their word as to what everything clearly is supposed to be.

I had began a discussion with another user (who's name honestly escapes me, but he was relatively new) who was selling a FW Wraithseer. Picture was even blurrier than the ones EyeofDC had, and when I asked for a clearer shot, he said he had no means of getting one. When I suggested that I pay for half upfront before shipping, due to my concerns with the picture, he quickly became defensive and vitriolic, saying that "I had no reason not to trust him". He rebuffed my offer, but needless to say, I wasn't going to deal with him at that rate.

But back on topic... When a person is genuine about selling/trading their things, they will make every effort to show that they are the real deal, which includes, but is not limited to:

1. Providing accurate details and descriptions of all items.
2. Providing clear pictures of everything described.
3. Providing accurate delivery & payment information.

This is the bare minimum, at least by my standards of dealing on Dakka. And I don't believe EyeofDC is doing that.

Update: Here is a list of all the items that I have found so far that have been sold. If you bought an identical group of items (for example, a large tyranid lot) please post as that would be another warning sign.

Thankfully, anyone I have spoken to so far who has actually sent funds has done so as a normal Paypal payment, NOT AS A GIFT. If you are asked to send a payment as a gift as a condition of trading, please PM me or post here! Do NOT do so!

Me- "why can't you ship it now? the money shows it's there it's not like I can do take backs or anything unless I do a refund but then I have to explain to paypal why I am. it's not like your not going to get paid for it. Just wondering?

him - "I can't access the funds till you receive it and mark it as fine, at any time you can tell them it's not and they'll instantly release it back to you. also atleast 50 of that is going into shipping it I had a guy pull this stunt on me a few weeks ago and I lost alot of money, So for me it's safer if I wait till I have the funds"

him "If you do change your mind at anytime, I can refund it and we can re do it. (did you know if you put a note with a gift saying it's for goods you can get it back?)"

me- "I could not find anywhere on paypal that shows there is protection on Gifting money."

me- "Okay just got off the phone with Paypal. they said that there is NO protection on any Gifted money. They said if you want your money faster you can ship the items and enter the Tracking number on paypal and that you will get your money in 3 days after the items are shipped.
Also I can't Take the money way unless I do a dispute which they monitor the chat between us. So I can't just take the money away as your shipping or when I get the items.

So again we can wait the 21 days to ship ( Which I am fine with) or do what they said and you could shipping the items out and they will send your money (even with a new account that would normally take 21 days) if you add the tracking number.
They said once the item is received the money will process to the sellers account 3 days after.

Thanks for posting, Falcon. His last post on Dakka was on the 6th (in this thread). Did he communicate with you via PM here on the 10th, not email?

The 10th also corresponds with the date I posted the list of items he had already sold above...

Could you please check and tell me the date when he asked you to pay by gift? I.e., if it was after the 7th when the warning was posted above for him not to do so.

His last post was on the 10th via PM saying "sending it is fine."

I had real time (quick) pm correspondence with him on the 7th. It all seemed very sketchy to me. I was here last time someone showed up selling huge amounts of FW cheap.

I have actually turned mine into a paypal claim due to lack of communication. He was even supposed to mail it in country (to another Aus based dakka user), so it would be fully traceable.

Well looks like I have been ripped off.

I purchased; warhound+2 turbo laser arms, herald on juggernaught, Huron black heart, and 50 horrors from him and his communications stopped Fri, Jan/10/2014 10:49:53 with a PM (on dakkadakka) stating he just needed my shipping address to ship (which he already had and was responding as I questioned why he had not shipped).

Unfortunately I has fairly sick and medicated when I did this trade (very bad judgement on my part) and I sent the money as a friend. Therefore if anyone has information with which I could pursue legal action against this individual with I would appreciate them PMing me. I would also appreciate any advise, because though I have done a few trades with Australians, I have never had any problem (in fact this is the only problem I have ever had with any trades whatsoever, dakkadakka had been good to me so far).

Ansacs, please don't give up on this- contact Paypal and explain your confusion as to the options. I have heard that if you press them hard, they still sometimes will refund you EVEN IF you mistakenly sent the payment as a friends/family payment.

Point them to this thread, as well, showing that the person is clearly ripping people off. It may help!

Just a heads up, I did get a refund from Paypal for the transaction. If anyone needs the claim number for their own attempts at refund, pm me.

My mate Duc was sold the contents of these pics too. Your details are being passed on to the police and I gave him your address. Best of luck with that

Ugh, thanks for updating here, mrshl9898. How was the trade worked out, if not through Dakka?

Below is some information from the prior transaction report, showing the police who were contacted before... if it is about the same person, there should be much swifter action taken, since they already have a file on them.

Given that you are also in Australia, I would consider PM'ing Makaleth for more details before you / your friend contacts the police. That way, you could reference exactly his report to the police when you contact them.

The only thing I was allowed to put through officially was my case. I cannot go into detail much anymore as there is an investigation going on.

If you have had items taken (hopefully all of the GW vouchers were returned) you can go to your police and lodge a complaint and they might be able to join them up, but it is not common on this sort of matter.

The short of it. If you cannot reroute your packages, it is almost impossible to get it back as I thought.

Do Aussies not have the option for detailed PayPal invoicing's? I only ask because it seems like that is a missing piece here. I only ask because anytime I have ever invoiced and not been paid I don't ship. Anytime I have been invoiced and not received they froze the money.

Hi guys.

I was recently stung by "EyeofDC" ($270 for 2x Chaos Warhound Titans and 1x Chaos Reaver Titan). Being a new user to Paypal, I did not realize that there's no Insurance when sending $$$ to a "Family/Friend". Needless to stay, I'm hoping my "Dispute a Transaction" through Paypal and the local authorities will pan out.

I recently got off the phone with NSW Castlehill Police Station in AUS (22 March 2014), they advised that I needed to contact my local police in Victoria and file a report which I will be doing. The Incident Number (ES3031178) they advised was not one of theirs ... not sure if the police are trying to pass the buck or something else.

Please note: for Victoria, AUS residence ONLY! ... So after getting back to the Victoria Police, they referred me to their website which you will need to download the "VP Form 1418" and hand it to your local Victoria Police Station. I will fill it out and hand it to them asap.
