I finally got a Hierophant, in my opinion the coolest model out there. It was hellish getting it done, in the sense that in the past three weeks not only have I painted it, but made 6 pieces of themed scenery, and finished a Wraithknight and six jetbikes while working fully time and getting ready to move (with a demon 20 month old running around too!). Phew!

I 'took my time' more than Ive done with any of my other Tyranids. I'm actually quite proud of this work and feel like its the first painting job since I started a 1.5 year ago that Im really happy with. I noticed a lot of the pics are way better if you zoom in. Anyway, C&C welcome.

BTW, that base is going away and is only there to ensure its 'safe' while all the pinning is being confirmed as stable, so please disregard it.

^ I never realized just how big this thing was, heres a comparison shot in case you've never seen one in person.

That is some beautiful work there! I have this model as well and am completely intimidated by it.

Forgive me now! Tomorrow I may no longer feel guilty...

I know the feeling...I kept putting it off, it took forever to figure out where to even start.

Actually, I really like the idea behind the base. You'd need to figure out how to hide it, but I think it would really help support the weight while keeping to a fairly managable footprint. Maybe disguse the stand with a building/wreck that it's climing over.

Part of me wants to have a pile of gaunts, gants and rippers going up towards it, but I want it to be functional more than anything else.

I also like the base as it would give some support and could help ease off the weight on those legs. I disagree with Ifurita in the sense that I don't think you'd need to hide the flying stand because it's fairly hidden when looking straight on and the flesh hooks mask it somewhat from the side.

this is a beauty!! you should be really proud of that

I have assembled and painted one of these, and it is a testament to any modelers patience and determination to actually finish one of these bastards. I did one like 5 years ago, and i remember losing the will to live painting this thing. its so hard to hold and manage as well due to shape and size. i am going to do another one someday soon though!

Outstanding work! not paticularly keen on the flying stand, but he is really hard to stand up on his own. What i have heard some people do is glue exacto blades or pieces of metal or wire next to his leg talons that touch the gound, and then putty over the seams and stuff to hide it, that way his legs dont bend and flop around under his own weight.

it is a killer model!

That is a great looking model. I can imagine when you pop it down on the table it is going to draw attention!

Really like that yellow orange carapace, contrasts really well with the lighter skin, and that head with the purple mouth/tongue area is awesome.

Thanks for sharing.

PS: wouldn't mind seeing it in a group shot with a chunk of the rest of the army

Perhaps a combination of the two? No idea if its still standing on its own, but if not then the base will be really important.

Hey thanks! He currently has thick clotheshanger pins running through him, even down to his claws. If that wont hold then he'll have to stay on the base unless I get more drastic.

I'm not fond of the green detailing. I think it should be purple like the other gribbly bits. Otherwise, he looks suitably awesome!

I just matched him part for part with the rest of the army, to be honest. If anything I feel like I should have made the purple brighter, but I feel like he looks scarier this way.

Nice, when does your wifey get an ELDAR titan to balance that thing out on the table top?

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the feedback.

She's got two WK's now...we've discussed it, but honestly 1000pts of strong Eldar firepower kind of trumps the 1000pts of Hierophant, it seems
a bit overpriced. We'll know when we play test it.

No, just my army's scheme, no particular affiliation other than I like tiger and desert colors.

I just dropped him off for a Crystal Brush competition at DZ games in MD.

I have no intentions of winning, but I figured I may as well since this was my best effort so far. He has been standing on his own 4 legs for well over a week now solid as a rock, but when they put him in the display case I notice his front right leg was showing some shifting. : / Judging is tomorrow and I have a horrible feeling that over night he will collapse. Fingers crossed.

Good luck!

Hope he doesn't collapse as the judges are looking at him, that would be the worst timing.

Yeah saw that in the Nids tactica thread.

Sorry to see it happened, he looks good in there and draws the eye away from everything else due to the colour.

Ah well, fix it up and get it back into competition!
