This is a question prompted by recent changes. Used to be a person could count on things being a certain way almost everywhere you went in this country. There was a level of continuity that said no matter where you were in the US, "You were in the US".

Because of these changes I decided to run a poll to see if others had noticed and to find out their preference.

So without further adieu:

Do you like your hamburger with meat on the bottom "under the veggies and condiments" or do you like the meat on top of the veggies "next to the top piece of bread"?

Or do you not care?

While this question is mostly about hamburgers it can also include pretty much any other sandwich meat. Basically I'm asking, "How do you prefer your sandwiches to be built?".

My preference is for the old style meat on bottom where the bun soaks up the grease and the first thing to hit my pallet is meat flavoured bread and meat.

I understand the new way restaurants have started building their burgers (meat on top) keeps the bottom bun dry but makes a burger that dribbles juices off of the lettuce and on to your shirt. Also the meat becomes an after thought to the veggies, imo.

So, there you go. Top or Bottom, What's your preference Dakka?

See, my mind immediately jumped to whips and ropes and all that interesting stuff.

To answer the thread's original question, I prefer my meat on the bottom. It's a much more pleasurable experience to observe the brightly colored vegis and condiments than to simply have the meat shoved in your face right off.

I prefer the vegetables on top, but I wouldn't turn down a sandwich just because the veggies were on the bottom.

I think the term and question is more, "Did I intend the double
entendre ?".

My reply is that erotic orientation has nothing to do the question and poll. Passion about food that some people feel is what the question and poll are about.
When dealing with passions, one can end up with vastly differing subjects with similar descriptions.

Now back to the question of the double entendre being intended.

I was aware that it could be viewed with more than one meaning but my focus was on the joys and preferences of how people like their burgers.

So, given my explanation I ask you:

Was the double entendre intended?

Why would it matter?

Are you, in some way, implying that simple non-sexual questions should be censored if someone can interpret them as having a second meaning?


Actually, don't worry about answering these. I would rather hear your answer to the threads posted question and why.

For me it is meat, cheese & bun with different condiments depending on my mood.

But yeah, a massive double meat & double cheese w/mayo, mustard &ketchup sounds awesome right now.

I misunderstood the question twice before I realized you meant in a burger! Didn't change my vote though Bottom, I much prefer my meat on the bottom, just the meat taste hits my pallet that little bit earlier; but if I was handed a burger with meat on top, I'll still devour it, as nothing can ruin a good burger!

Couldn't give less of a toss if I tried.

What about two thick juicy pieces of meat and an extra bun in the middle.

Just a small correction/clarification.

Generic usage of the terms "top" and "bottom" is in no way a homoerotic reference.

Now, if I had asked, "Are you a top or bottom?". That would absolutely have been a homoerotic reference.

The first is a generic question of preference that is completely open to interpretation, while the second is a question as to how a person would self-identify.

Basically, there is a difference between "preferring top or bottom" and "being a top or a bottom".


As to hamburgers being used as a metaphor for other pleasurable activities......

You do not want to be lectured and that is okay. But please add a “I eat burgers without meat” option to the poll. If there is one for no vegetable, why not one for no meat?

Many people don't consider meatless burgers to be actual burgers. They're wrong, of course, but they still exist.
