The largest church in the Sognefjord was barely visible through the snow. An enormous grey mass, it was once a private church for a powerful high-born family. Over time it had passed to the Inquisition. Perfect in it's isolation, it's stone walls a medieval architectural masterpiece.

...

Bellygrub adjusted the rusted binoculars, bringing the settlement below into clearer view. He squinted, smiled slightly, a hint of yellow teeth showed momentarily. The snow, driven by the gusts of wind stung his eyes as he continued to survey the occupants of the church, watching them move here and there like rats around the ancient structure. Servitors. He'd end them soon enough.

Bellygrub dropped the binoculars, heard the annoyed impatience of his second in command behind him as the smaller Ork adjusted his battle scarred armor with a creak and signed for about the 100th time. He'd deal with him later. He had bigger grots to fry for now.

Bringing the cracked lens back up to his eyes he wondered in which building the artifact could be found? The large one he supposed. Scratched himself as he thought. Another sigh behind him.

Bellygrub's temper rose.

He turned, walked to the smaller Ork, looked him in one beady eye, and punched him square in the face.

That felt good.

Gesturing to the cowering grot beside him, he issued orders to move on the compound below.

Leave nothing alive.

...

The Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor stepped outside, pleased with the results of his investigation.

A side door opened, two Servitors removed the lifeless form that had been cleansed of any heresy by the Inquisitor. The drones moved quietly, the sounds of their footfalls in the snow unheard over the wind. The two disappeared into the snow storm towards the pit.

Something called his attention to the right. Odd. He couldn't hear anything over the wind. Still he looked, at first seeing nothing. As he strained his eyes, dark shapes seemed to appear out of the storm. Indistinguishable at first through the blizzard. The Inquisitor squinted, thinking the simple minded drones had become confused in the storm but as he watched the shapes slowly took form. His eyes widened.

Without hesitation he removed the transmitter from his coat pocket, quickly punching in the code to bring the combat drones online.

With chilled fingers he fitted an earpiece in and spoke sharply.

"Brother Corridan." he spoke sharply.

"Sir." A reply chirped back.

"Orks."

...

Harald stretched his back as his mount sniffed at the ground. Around him his battle brothers waited. His mount shifted under him and growled as a large form came into view ahead of him.

Alrek reined his mount to a stop, snow flying up around him, the wolf beneath shaking the snow off it's head, huffing loudly.

"Report."

"Sire. The Orks have moved around to the far side of the valley across from us. There is an Inquisitorial outpost just ahead to the North."

"Are they aware of the Orks?"

"No Sire. It doesn't appear so."

"Good." Harald said honestly. Their original orders had been to investigate an Imperial Bastion further to the North but his scouts had come across the Xenos instead. The bastion could wait.

Just then a second rider appeared. Harald acknowledged him with a nod.

"Sire. It appears the Orks are now in full assault on the outpost."

Harald quickly spoke into the communicator, barking orders to his Pack Leaders and kicked his mount forward.

For the All Father!

In a month I will be attending a convention and over the weekend myself and Bellygrub are going to fight a series of battles. We are going to use the experience rules from the previous 40k rules and will link 3 battles together over the course of 3 days. The first battle will be the Orks attempting to loot an artifact from the Inquisitorial Church. We have plans to have a third player run the Inquisition forces. The Space Wolves will arrive via reserves.

The Space Wolves are an unbound army. A Space Wolves wolf army consisting of 15 Thunderwolves and 3 HQ's mounted on Thunderwolves as well. In addition there will be 22 Fenrisian Wolves. A Vanguard force to try and stop the Orks in their tracks.

The 2nd battle:

Depending on the outcome the Orks may or may not receive a relic to be used by their leader. This battle will also be fought in the snow at the Imperial Outpost. Much to the surprise of the Wolves the Orks have somehow managed to set up a little orky outpost, taking over the Imperial Bastion and setting up a small Mek settlement. Looks like they're creating some strange war machines. Better shut that down Space Wolves!

But what's this? A message coming in from the Inquisition? They want you to capture the enemy Big Mek for his desecration of the church. What the ! Space Wolves take no prisoners! Grrrrrrrr.

Destroy the Mek shop and I get a victory point for halting the orky production line.

Capture Big Mek Bellygrub and you gain...three victory points and avoid the ire of the Inquisitor General who's making his way to the planet.

During the battle the grots will be working feverishly on churning out Killa Kanz. Each turn after turn 3 that the mek shop remains operational a Killa Kan emerges.

3rd battle:

The Inquisitor is coming to claim his prize (or not). Harald received the coordinates and is preparing to meet him. But it looks like those sneaky orks have also gotten the coordinates and want to get their Boss Mek back (in the event of a capture/ if not that just want to with the Inquisitor). Clear out the landing area so the transport ship can come in!

Now some pictures!

So the centerpiece of the battle will be the church from Pegasus Hobbies.

Bellygrub has already set about getting it painted.

And an excellent job on the floor!

I think we'll also have a small graveyard alongside the church.

I’m sure glad GW is going to all plastic, so the ever-rising cost of white metal won’t impact the cost of their miniatures.

I'm not sure space wolves address higher ranks as "sire". Otherwise, i enjoyed the read!
