Since our OP kit for RiF 3 was delayed a guy at my local shop thought up this scenario. Two rival fleets have discovered an abandoned Borg Nexus and are trying to acquire Borg technology. There is a giant cube in the middle of the board with 20 hull, 20 Shields and will attack the 3 closest ships with a 5 die attack. The rest of the board is littered with various Borg ships. Here is a quick summary of his rules.
-The Borg start the game dormant and will remain that way for 10 full turns. Until the Borg wake up their ships count as obstacles. After 10 turns all remaining Borg ships will awaken and attack the closest non-Borg ship.
-Each ship in a players fleet start with 3 away mission tokens. If a ship gets within range 1-2 of a Borg ship, it can take an action to lower its shields and sent an away team over. Once the away team is on the ship there is a an chart that you roll on to see what happens with all kinds of outcomes. These range from:
1) Ship wakes up as a rouge Borg and attacks the closest ship
2) Ship blows up and sends a feedback to the ship that sent the away team w/3 attack dice
3) Ship becomes an active Borg ship away team is lost
4) Ship is now controlled by the player who sent the away team, but it has no shields, cannot move, or take actions
5) Ship is now controlled by the player who sent the away team, but it cannot move, or take actions.
6) I really can’t remember because we never rolled it.
7) Ship is fully under the control of the player who sent the away team, but has no shields.
8) Ship is fully under the control of the player who sent the away team, with shields.
-All captured Borg ships count as captain skill 1, and become the faction of the players main fleet.
-Players receive 20 points for each Borg ship they fly off their board edge. (this never came up because we used them to attack each other)
-The player who destroyed the giant cube receives 50 points.

We used 90 point builds plus we each bought 2 blinds. Our shop has a big box of extra blinds. I flew Romulans with the Scimitar and Avatar of Tomed. My blinds were Prakesh and Relora. My opponent was running MU with MU Enterprise D and Regent’s Flageship. His blinds were Relora and Dominion from the Collective.

Set up

Turn 2 or 3. We both are just going about acquiring sending out our away teams. If you see a disabled shield on top of a Borg ship it means that it cannot move, a disable token means it is dormant.

Turn 4 or 5. With most of the Borg on my side of the board claimed I moved in on my opponent. By this point I had 2 Tac Cubes, 2 Spheres, 1 Diamond, a Soong, and a Scout Cube under my control. My opponent had 2 spheres, a Diamond, and 2 scout cubes. His main fleet was not so lucky though. He had his Dominion ship destroyed when it’s away team tripped a feedback. I destroyed his MU Enterprise when he lowered his shields to send a team to a Tac Cube, which when rouge anyway. He didn’t realize I was within range 3 of the D, and he also got a direct hit as a crit.

Turn ??? Moving in ships taking more damage, looking grim for opponent.

Turn ???
His Relora makes a suicide run at my Tac Cube. My Avatar is plunking away at that diamond.

Turn???
Things looking better for him, but the Scimitar is untouched and his Borg are limping. Big Cube has woken up and is blunking away at us.

Last turn. I had finished off his last diamond and he had one scout cube left that was all the way in the corner that couldn’t move. That gave me time to use my Tac Cub, Sphere, and Scimitar to focus on the Big Cube. It took about 4 turns and I lost the Sphere, but I did it.

This was a fun scenario and way better than RiF3. We are thinking of using a scaled down version instead of the actual OP. The only thing we may change is the placement of the Borg ships. The straight rows made it a little too easy to just fly along and collect big powerful ships. If they were scattered a little more bumping may stop ships from sending away teams. Just so you know all of the Borg ships belong to the guy who wrote the scenario, and I thought I had a lot of ships .

It's time to go full Skeletor
