I've been craving some 'mech-on-'mech action for a while, and I had finished a Kurita lance a few months ago, so I decided to hurry up and paint up some OpFor for them to fight. Who better to square off against the forces of the Draconis Combine than the Davion Heavy Guard?
DCMS 2nd Sword of Light
The forces of the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery includes (AlphaStrike 146 pts):
- DMO-1K Daimyo
- Black Hawk-KU Prime
- DRG-5N Dragon
- AKU-1X Akuma
AFFS Davion Heavy Guard
The forces of the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns includes (AlphaStrike 139 pts):
- FNHK-9K
- LNX-9Q
- FLC-8R
- VTR-9K
Points aren't equal and might seem like a random number for a reason. Part of the "pitch" of AlphaStrike is that you can take a Light, Medium, Heavy and Assault 'mech and throw them into a roughly even match. So that's what I did. Both lances have one of each weight class and were chosen by class vs. points. I was curious what that added up to and figured that I'd list the points for...reasons. Regardless, it was a close game! Anyway, ON
TO THE BATTLE REPORT!
Battletech BatRep [AlphaStrike] - DCMS 2nd Sword of Light vs. AFFS Davion Heavy Guard
Elements of the 2nd Sword of Light clash with elements of the Davion Heavy Guard on an undisclosed planet. After some aggressive posturing by both sides, weapons fire is traded back and forth.
The Sword of Light take advantage of an early tactical error when the Heavy Guard forces split up. After surrounding the
Victor and
Falconer, the
DCMS 'mechs manage to destroy the heavy
Falconer.
Unfortunately for the Sword of Light, the Guards return the favor in kind by focusing all firepower into the
Akuma, taking it down in a volley of fire.
The
DCMS Black Hawk, seeing that the lighter
Falcon Hawk has exposed itself to fire, breaks off from allied forces and destroys the smaller 'mech in a torrent of laser fire.
As the
Victor turns to follow the
Black Hawk, the light
Daimyo moves to pepper the assault 'mech's back with laser fire, but causes little damage.
Surrounded by enemy forces (and a large pair of mysterious hands), the
Black Hawk quickly falls to concentrated weapons fire as the Guards avenge their fallen comrade.
The remaining
DCMS 'mechs focus their attention on the
Victor, and the
Daimyo gets a lucky shot into the back of the assault 'mech, dropping it.
The
Lynx, alone on the battlefield against two 'mechs, makes a valiant last stand on a hill. Although it cripples the
Daimyo, its last shots go wild and the
Lynx is unable to finish the lighter 'mech off. In the end, the two
DCMS 'mechs take it down for a complete victory for the
Draconis Combine!
