I dunno if Turkish Cobras were sold with DIRCM or not, but I'm guessing not based on that.
Go Kurds!
No DIRCM there!
Maybe its also a case of it being unexpected? if there was no intel that the Kurds would use manpads/have manpads then I guess that doctrine and training would be a bit useless? Maybe the military got complacent?
Not that there was much time to react.

Reason #1,237 for why we need to get the hell out of there.

Nah, PKK is the organisation Turkey calls terrorists because they're using violence in a quest for independence for the Kurdish areas of Turkey. The same guys Turkey kept bombing in their training camps in the no-fly zone of northern Iraq that was supposed to protect Kurds from the evil Saddam. So mainly Iraq/Turkey.

That's not a sarcastic question, I actually don't know.
The Peshmerga, the military of Iraqi Kurdistan, are the Kurds everyone says we should be arming. Even the US considers the PKK a terrorist group. The problem is, Turkey generally hates the Kurds, and sometimes the Peshmerga and PKK work together.

That looks to be an obsolescent SA-7 "Grail". And I'm guessing that Turk AH-1s are older blocks that don't have the full countermeasure packages that our modern Cobras have.
I don't trust the Kurds anymore than I trust any other group in the region. But they have taken a bunch of gak from the Turks. So, I don't fault them when they step on a few here and there.

Nope. Modern Igla variant. I'd bet on a Grinch (SA-24 if I remember right). It could give the DIRCM on Whiskey Cobras a run for its money.

Are the Israelis funding and training these guys, are is that just the Kurds in Syria/ Iraq, etc? I've not been following current military events on Israeli sites lately, so not exactly sure if they're even still aiding an independent Kurdistan after the Russians involved themselves.

A Weapon and Tactics CW2 friend of mine had this to say.
Unclassified version, greater 85% chance that they will not successfully engage us. An apache would have almost certainly survived at that altitude. A Kiowa wouldn't have even been locked up

I do not know whether this is due to the success of the Kurds. But

I'm guessing it would be a similar situation with one of our Cobras.
Even with countermeasures no doubt it would be pretty hairy! Doubtful that it's a good feeling when warnings flash up on the control panel.
