Subject: [1850] - Dark Angels - Lion's Blade+RWSF: List evolution
Tac Squad 2-3

4 Scouts: bolters

Nephilim Jet Fighter: twin linked lascannons
The list did pretty well. It was my first tournament in a long time, and my first ITC tournament, so I can't complain about scoring in the exact middle of the pack. I came away with some ideas on tweaking the list. For one thing, the jump pack Assault Squad didn't really do much in any of my games, and the sergeant with the power axe did practically nothing. So, I didn't really need AP2 during the assault phase. Another development was that I barely needed the Nephilim for its intended fighter-interceptor role. I only faced one opponent with 1 FMC (Fateweaver), and during my by round I went around and looked at the other armies. Maybe this tournament was atypical, but people weren't spamming flyers. One army had 2 Heldrakes, another had some wacky massive Forgeworld thing, and that was largely it. The Nephilim was still a workhorse, but mostly spent its time strafing ground targets. I did get to shoot down Fateweaver with it, which was endlessly satisfying.
Anyhow, condensing what worked for me and what didn't, I tweaked the list
Task Force Gideon v2
Spoiler:
Detachment 1: Lion's Blade Detachment First Demi-Company Company Master Gideon: Mace of Redemption, articifer armor
Assault Squad 1-1
4 Marines: 2 flamers
Sergeant: combi-flamer
Drop Pod
yeah flyers are no longer popular unless the format includes the wildly unpopular Death from the Skies supplement. Fateweaver is usually protected, and Battle Company can usually ignore Hive Tyrants while wiping everything on the ground.
I'm actually toying with the idea of replacing the Ravenwing Strike Force with a Ravenwing Silence Squadron. It's an Auxiliary choice for the Lion's Blade, so I wouldn't have to take the Scouts, and having 3 flyers strafing things might be hard for opponents to deal with.

I've been planning to do this myself, as I even have the models (although two of the flyers are still on sprues). I have my doubts about it being very competitive though, as the Nephilim is probably the most overcosted thing in the DA codex. Still, it'll look awesome on the table when you have three DA flyers in play!
My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

The Grotsnik Corp Bump Feelerer 9,000. It only looks like several bricks crudely gaffer taped to a cricket bat.

The Nephilim is not awful. It was a workhorse for me in all my games. Bear in mind ITC doesn't use the Death From The Skies, so the blacksword missiles get to keep the Missile Lock rule. So, with the TLLC, everything it shoots get to reroll failed to hit rolls. Plus it rerolls Jink rolls, but I think I only had it Jink once the whole tournament.
