This is the list I've come up with from the new supplement to hard counter Necron Decurions and Battle companies (like 50% of all armies in any given tournament) and also do quite well versus tau/eldar.

Chaos Warband:

Chaos Lord (votlw, mon, bolt pistol, ccw) - 80pts

5 CSM (boltguns, mon, votlw, 1x plasma gun) + rhino - 140pts
10 CSM (boltguns, mon, votlw, 2x plasma gun + rhino - 235pts
5 CSM (bolt pistol/CCW, mon, votlw, 1x melta gun, 1x combi melta) + rhino - 145pts
5 CSM (bolt pistol/CCW, mon, votlw, 1x melta gun, 1x combi melta) + rhino - 145pts

3 Chaos Terminators (mon, votlw, 3 combi melta, 3 powerfist) - 154pts

5 Raptors (mon, votlw, 2x flamers, 1x combi-flamer, 1x powerfist) - 155pts

5 Havocs (mon, votlw, 2x plasmagun) + rhino - 155pts
5 Havocs (mon, votlw, 4 Autocannons) - 130pts
5 Havocs (mon, votlw, 4 Lascannons) - 170pts

Formation: Helldrake Terror pack
Helldrake (baleflamer) - 170pts
Helldrake (baleflamer) - 170pts

The plan is open transports with melta/plasma and the Havocs, and Helldrakes + plasma kills marines/necrons. Havocs are relentless, t5, FNP with rerolls, fearless and get stealth over 18". Plan is to camp them on difficult terrain or something like that and watch them survive 3 stormsurges shooting. Everything in this army, every single model (save for the helldrakes) is ObSec. It's really hard to kill by shooting as well, so tau should have a tough time trying to remove everything off objectives from afar.(where I get army-wide stealth) Helldrakes should prove really usefull against scatbikes as well. I think we'll some form of this list played a lot from now on. Any comments?

Looks incredibly solid. The naked Lord makes me a bit sad.

Just a thought, have you ever considered cutting down some fat i.e termies and raptors to fit in an IW cad? That way you get obsec tank hunting oblits and havocs with autocannons.

Looks good, seems like double heldrake will be de facto aux for competitive lists with death guard war band.

It does not work like that. I didn't get the termies and raptors because I like them, but because I had to, due to the Chaos Warband formation.

I meant that you could run them barebones and cut some autocannons on the havocs to get some oblits in a cad.

He's running Death Guard. If he were running those as Iron Warriors he would gain the Tank Hunter, but he would also lose: T5, FNP 5+ (re-rolling 1s), Fearless, kind-of-stealth, and Relentless. I'm a huge Iron Warriors fan boi (I run them in both 40k and 30k) but Death Guard is the better option for a competitive event.

The House that Peterbilt

The termies should just have axes, they are suiciders so, less points spent on them the better.

Swap the raptors for bikes. They make better use of the stealth by having jink and t6 with FNP on an obsec unit that can turbo is too good to pass up.

I'd use the free points to bike up the lord and make him more of a beatstick. He can then run with the bikers.

Wouldn't bother with 10 man CSM. Just take more plasma on havocs rather than beef up a line squad.

Points also should go for combi-meltas on the rhinos - its one of the few perks CSM has over SM.

Alternate build that has merit is getting some dreadclaws in the list. Obsec and the stealth on them is pretty tasty. Would need to trim things down a lot to make that work though.

He runs one cad on top of the warband to get tank hunters oblits and havocs. IMO i think tank hunting havoks are better than relentless havoks, but thats just me.

For wonderings's sake, what are the Warband requirements and benefits?

It isn't just the Havocs, who will most likely be getting stealth, it is also the Oblits. T5, FNP (re-rolling 1s) Oblits who are probably going to have stealth from enemy shooting are infinitely better than T4 Oblits with Tank Hunter. Oblits are squishy enough already without being insta-killed by S8 & S9 weaponry. Like you said though, it sounds like we have a difference in opinion.

Benefits:
-Re-rolling Warlord Trait
-Re-roll FNP results of '1'
-Units get stealth when shot by a unit 18"+ away

Requirements:
- 1 Chaos Lord
- 0-1 Sorceror
- 1-3 units of Chosen/Terminators/Possessed
- 2-6 units of CSM
- 1-3 units or Raptors/Warp Talons/Bikers
- 1-3 units of Havocs/Helbrutes

They also get Favoured Scions and ObSec on every model.

Favoured Scions: When a model from a Chaos Warband earns a roll on the Chaos Boon table as a result of the Champion of Chaos special rule, roll twice on the table and choose either one or both of the results.

Then auxiliary units/formations are taken as well, just like the Decurion, I'm assuming.
So this is not a Deathguard only thing, right?
How do all the various CSM factions factor into this?

And those, thanks for the reminder.

Yeah, each Legion has it's own special Decurion. I'll use Iron Warriors as an example, because that's what I play.

Iron Warriors Decurion is called the Grand Company. My Grand Company has different benefits than the Death Guard one does (re-rolling ordnance/barrage, stubborn/fearless-kind-of).

As far as the CSM factions go, I believe you can pick any of them to be Legions as long as you abide by the basic rules. Iron Warriors wouldn't be able to have any Marks of Chaos for example. Death Guard would only be able to have Mark of Nurgle. There are some others.
